What The Fur Hotel News
Posted 11 years agoRooms are going quickly!
The hotel has now been sold out of rooms with 2 double beds! But don’t you worry!
There are still rooms with a single King bed available, and if you need room for a third person in the room just leave them a note that you want one of the sofa-beds (subject to availability).
But act quickly to make sure you have a room at the Sheraton!

Gyroscopic movements, of the musical kind
Posted 11 years agoAfter seeing the current results of the survey regarding having a dance competition this year at What The Fur, we couldn't disagree with the results. So we will have our first Dance Competition at WTFur 2014!
And though it is quite a bit more fun to see the talented performers in fursuit dance their tails off (sometimes literally), we don’t want people to just sit on the sidelines, so in addition to the Fursuit category, we will allow for a secondary non-suited category of dancers.
Rules are being decided, and more info will be coming in the next couple of weeks. We would really prefer that we know if you will be competing ahead of the convention, so drop us a line! Let us know what your musical selection will be, and let us know if you have any questions or want to sign up by emailing us at dance[at]whatthefur.ca . We’re also going to be looking for a few fine folks to help us out with this. If interested, use the same email address.

The weapons are being chosen
Posted 11 years agoIt seems that some people have decided that What The Fur just wasn't fun enough, and so they have begun polling you, the general population. Just giving the people music seems not to be enough to appease. Suiters from all over now want to know who is the best at dancing to the music.
So the question has been asked: Who would like a Dance Competition at What The Fur?
Let us know what you think on the facebook poll here:

March is upon us!
Posted 11 years agoFirst, we would like to thank our friends at Furnal Equinox for an amazing weekend! Nothing but fun was had!
Now, there are just a bit over two months left until What The Fur takes to the stage. We’ve oiled the gears and started cranking up the boilers. So here’s a bit of news to keep you primed and ready.
Registration is only open until April 16th from the website. If you want to pay a lower rate, want a T-shirt for this year, or just want to show a little bit of support, go to our registration page and let us know you’re coming! And remember: We don’t need you to pay right away. After registering on the site, we’ll send you an invoice from PayPal, but if you’d rather, you can also pay for your registration via Interac Email transfer (from most Canadian banks), or in person at Montreal events or even at the door! But keep in mind that time is running out!
Similarly, the hotel is still open for reservations, and we still have room left, but don’t wait too long! The rooms are starting to run out, and we want to make sure that everyone coming to What The Fur has a place to stay. But remember that reserving a room at the hotel doesn’t register you for the con, and nor does registering reserve you a room. If you have any questions, just let us know and we’ll see what we can do!
Lastly, we couldn’t do this without your help. From Running workshops, sitting on panels, volunteering your time to help out, even providing what you can for our charity. So help out where you can! Let us know if you want to volunteer your time to be one of our volunteers, to run a panel or workshop, or simply to donate. Every little bit helps.

Guest of Honour: Ookami Kemono
What The Fur is proud to present you with our chosen Guest of Honour for 2014, the amazingly talented
o-kemono Ookami Kemono, also known as Alex Cockburn. He is originally from Boston, Massachusetts. Mostly self-taught with the pencil and ink techniques, he studied the basics of drawing anatomy from watching various cartoons and reading Japanese Manga. His illustrations soon reached numerous published children's books, CD covers, television, and game magazines. Later he found a talent for animation; both stop motion and cell animation. He soon graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a Bachelor in Fine Arts. Soon after, he published his first furry graphic novel, "Concealment" and is now working on a series called "Lucid's Dream".
His unique images focus on the hardships of life and relations, questioning topics in the furry fandom, to the joy of being in love and having friends. His artwork became so inspiring to others that people wrote to him saying that his artwork saved and changed their lives. Ookami also shares his talent and donates numerous illustrations to various furry conventions. His artistic curse, a developing cute style, soon became known as the style of "D'AWWWWW!" to thousands.
Dates
We've had to get a little creative, but we've got our dates now set. What The Fur will be taking place on the weekend of the 23rd to 25th of May 2014.
Venue
After many trials and tribulations, we are happy to say that we've found our new home! In 2014 the Sheraton Montreal Airport will be our new location.
Our new home is now outside of the down town core, which means that yes, you are being taken further away from the wonderful restaurants that you've grown to love over the last four years. But fret not! There are many restaurants just to the south of the hotel, and you're closer to the West Island (which, in our opinion, has several superior eateries).
Rooms at the hotel will be $125 per night for a two-double bed room, no matter if you're four people in the room or not! Parking will be extra, but it's much less expensive than down town. And, as a bonus, if you want to come in early or stay a little later around the convention to see Montreal, we've managed to get a deal where you can stay in the hotel for the same rates anywhere from the 20th to the 28th of may!
Visit our Hotel Page for more information. Reservations can start to be made in the coming days, so expect another announcement.
Registration
We’re also proud to announce that registration for both dealers and attendees is now open! Visit our website for all of the juicy details.
Programming
What The Fur can't exist without people like you, our attendees. And though we all work hard to bring you the best of events and entertainment, we are always looking to be better.
If you have an idea for a panel, a workshop or an event that you think would work at What The Fur, let us know! We're always on the hunt for new things to do
But worry not! We'll be bringing back your favourites such as the Chocolate Social, the Fursuit Games and the Fursuit Hockey League, Rockband and the ever-wonderful Saturday Night Dance.
We'll be bringing you a few new things this year, so keep your eyes open on our Programming page for updates and info.
