Fire Branded Leather and Cold Trailings Available
Posted 5 years agoHi Folks,
It's been a while, but I'm still working away on this end. The first two books of the Fire Dawg trilogy are available for purchase from Thurston Howl Publications / Boundtales.
Give them a look and see how V-Town fairs under Fire Chief Hamish and his crew.
Third book coming soon...

Happy Halloween
Posted 8 years agoWell hello there everyone,
I don't have anything to offer this all hallows eve, but FyrDawg has been kind enough to keep interest in The Hunters going. He's written a suitably horrific story by the name Night Mares. You may remember it as a continuation from a story he's previously worked on.
Fair warning, this story is very much NSFW, and takes the city in a decidedly darker (and non-canon) direction.

Looking to the Future
Posted 8 years agoI've been pretty quiet for the last few years, working away at real life and getting Fire Branded Leather published (and you have bought it... haven't you?).
Depending on how life goes, I may finally have some time to get back into writing later this year. With that goal in mind, what would you folks most like to see? I can continue with stories in The Hunters universe à la Fire Branded Leather, perhaps start working again in the troubled production of Police Dog 3, pick up from one of my other books, or start something completely new.
We'll just have to see.

Fire Branded Leater on Track for a 2017 Release
Posted 9 years agoHello there everyone.
So, a heads up... I'm not dead. Well, not yet.
In addition to that FBL is currently looking like it's on track for a 2017 release from Jaffa Books. I'll keep you informed as soon as I have more information.
And for those keeping tabs, I've remove the second half of the book from FA in an effort to help entice eventual buyers. Than you to everyone who read or helped me with it!

Minor Update
Posted 9 years agoHi Everyone,
So, figured I'd drop a line to keep people in the loop. I'm still working with Jaffa Books to get Fire Branded Leather published, but it's just taking a bit longer than I was originally hoping.
No major snags, but real life publishing requires a fair bit more than just pressing the 'Post' button!
In other news, I'm looking at breaking my current silence and working on a Hunter Halloween special. I rather enjoyed The Lion Plague from 2014. Anyone still keeping an eye on this account or interested in seeing another horror-themed one off?

Long Road to Publishing
Posted 9 years agoHi Everyone,
I’ve been quiet for a bit, and thought I should give you all a heads up. So, I’ve got some good news. I’ve signed on with my publisher and you’ll be seeing FBL in both ebook and print.
I don’t have a release date yet, and it won’t be for a while – these things take time. It’s not as easy as just pressing a ‘submit’ button!
Over the next couple of weeks I’m going to be taking down some of the later chapters of FBL to encourage purchasing the ebook. I’d love not to have to do it, but I can’t see many people buying when there’s a free version right here. Heheh.
Thanks to you all for reading and supporting me this far.
If you want to take a look, I’m signed on with Jaffa Books.
http://www.jaffabooks.net/novels.html
And if you’re interested in reading something now, I can recommend ‘Learning to Go’ by Friday Donnelly. He’s a friend who tipped me off to Jaffa Books to start with.

Good News and Bad News
Posted 9 years agoHi everyone,
So, I have one of those good news, bad news situations.
The good news: I may have found a publisher for one of my books!
The bad news: It's the Fire Branded Leather trilogy.
Obviously this is great for me, after years of trying I may have found a publisher interested in taking me on. But… if this goes through then FBL will be for sale rather than posted free.
You guys have been great, and I don't want to burn any bridges. For the moment I'll be holding off on posting any additional chapters, and if the agreement goes through I may be pulling down some chapters of FBL.
If you'd like to continuing reading the series let me know through private notes and we'll work something out. I'm hoping the agreement goes through, I'll let you know!

Author's Note
Posted 10 years agoThree Years, Eleven Stories, Thirty-Five Hundred Views, and One Crossroads
Hi everyone,
Well, this is a rather sombre occasion. For the longest time I thought I'd never get to this day, The Hunters is complete. It all ends where it all began, this particular chapter of my life is closed.
For those of you in the know, I posted the first chapter of The Hunters the same day I finished writing The Mourner. It was a form of closure for me. Unable to find any buyers for my books I posted the stories online in an effort to ensure that someone – anyone – would read them, to make sure the characters wouldn't die with me.
I made myself a promise that day. I vowed that I wouldn't stop writing, wouldn't stop badgering agents and hounding publishers, wouldn't give up on the dream until I had the complete Hunters series posted. I made a deal with myself to keep writing until Tommy's story was done, to not give up on my goal of becoming a published author until my first and favourite character was cold in the ground.
Well, this is that day.
Yeah, I'm being over dramatic. It's not that bad, I've still got a couple final tricks up my sleeve for getting published, but right now the chances are looking slimmer than a Police Dog's paunch. I really did think that I had what it takes, both the talent and the tenacity, but at some point you have to look around and ask just where the last decade has taken me. I've yet to see my name in print and my fingers are getting darn tired.
So why am I telling you all this? Long story short, don't expect to see too many more posts from me in the foreseeable future. I've now posted all my furry material (with one major exception!), and I'm not sure if I'll be writing much more right away.
It's not all doom-and-gloom though. This is no rage quit, and I'm not pulling an “I'm leaving the fandom forever!” here. I just need to figure out the way forward. For all the bad stereotypes of the community I've made some great friends here. Two-hundred posts and I haven’t had a single piece of negative feedback. A huge thank-you to everyone who's commented and chatted with me, not to mention those who have helped me edit and improve my work. It's been absolutely great meeting you all.
So, what does the future hold for this world-weary-wolf? (A... wwwolf, if you will. Now you at last know the secret of what it stands for!) Good question. If anyone reading this has any contacts in the publishing industry, I'd love to talk to you. And, on a related note, there's a good chance I'll be opening myself up for commissions. I'm not too sure how much interest there will be in commissioning me, so we'll take it one step at a time.
TLDNR Version: Thank-you all for reading, I'm taking a break for a while, and we'll see what the future holds.
So, from Tommy, Rebecca, English, Jon, Max, Griss, Aggy, Graham, Brown, Amstys, Molly, Crit, James, Forty-Two, Richard, Mary, Trevor, Jonathan, Llyal, Sixty, Forty-One, Archer, Forty-Seven, Robert, Alice, Ophois, Johnathan, Emma, Manson, and me... wwwolf, thank-you for hearing us out.

The Tommy Hunter Show
Posted 11 years agoWell... I really don't have anything I can say about this.
I just ran across The Tommy Hunter Show. Wow. Just wow.
I know nothing about it, but it was a Canadian show that ran from the sixties to the nineties.
Nothing to do with Tommy, or The Hunters, but awesome none the less.

Inherit the Earth 2 Kickstarter
Posted 11 years agoFor those of you who grew up in the nineties you'll likely remember a little something called adventure games. These shy, unassuming titles were the mainstay of the PC gaming market for the better part of a decade before finally dying out from a combination of over saturation and moon-logic puzzles.
I still remember being very young, no more than twelve when the game Inherit The Earth first came out. Reading a glowing review in a magazine, I so very wanted to get myself a copy. The fact its main character was a quick talking fox made me instantly fall in love with it, but pocket money won’t allow.
It was twenty years later I put down my cold, hard cash as an adult to play the game. And I was pleasantly surprised. Nice graphics, good voice acting (especially for the time), and an inventive plot. It certainly had its problems (yet gods the mazes!), but I played it with the help of a walk through and quite enjoyed myself.
So why am I talking about this now? A friend tipped me off that the people behind it are obviously furry, and they're trying to raise the money to make a sequel. It's up on kickstarter, aiming to raise 160k to cover production costs. So far it looks like they're... have some trouble meeting that goal.
For fifteen dollars you can pre-order a copy of the complete came. I put my money down. If you're interested I'd suggest you do too.

Wing Commander
Posted 11 years agoCurse you, GOG.com !
Welp, I was addicted to the PC games Wing Commander back in the 90s, in no small part to the awesome space cats. Kilrathi. I must have spent close to $500 on all the games back then.
I just re-bought all the games and expansion packs from GOG.com on sale for $10.
Being a responsible adult rocks!

Happy Towel Day Everyone!
Posted 11 years agoI was always a fan of the great, late author Douglas Adams. His seminal work Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (H2G2) was of surprising influence to me as a teen, and I've tried (and inevitably failed) to catch his madcap, near poetic style of humour in my own works.
Not to mention that Douglas Adams and I held very similar opinions of a number of other topics, but I won't get into those!
In any event, a man is always safe as long has he has his towel at hand.

An Open Letter to Squirrels

Please don't take this personally, but I hate you. I hate you all.
I've just spent the last three hours removing pine cones from the engine of an RV. Four-hundred and twenty six pine cones to be exact. I know. I counted.
I don't know what I did to bring your squirrey wrath down upon me, but I apologize. Now just please, please let me use my engine without it bursting into flames.

Looking for Test Readers
Posted 11 years agoHi everyone,
I'm currently working on multiple projects at the moment, one of which I plan to submit for publication. The story has been written and edited, but I'd like another set of eyes before I start shopping it around.
Would anyone here be interested in being a test reader for me?
The book takes place alongside the main Hunters series, but follows a new set of characters. It also includes a brief adult scene.
Let me know if you're interested!

Followup to 'Anybody Know What Game this is From?'
Posted 11 years agoA quick piece of followup from an earlier post, 'Anybody Know What Game this is From?'.
I posted a screenshot of what looked to be a furry noir game, but didn't know where it was from. Fellow FA user ParadigmLion stepped up and pointed me to "Hoodwink" by E-One Studio.
I've done a little bit of looking into the game. From what I can tell it's a traditional point-and-click adventure game, like what I grewup with. I'm definitely going to be trying to get ahold of a copy when time permits.
Reviews on the product seem to be... mixed. But there's a nice playthrough to be found here:

Oh, and the fact the cat is a private detective is awesome. Now I only wish we played as him...

Post-Mortem for a Dead God, and On to More Upbeat Things
Posted 11 years agoHey folks,
Well, let's get it started by saying there's no post tonight. Sorry. Almost two years without missing a beat, and I'm inserting a pause today. Combining with that, I'd like to announce a new posting schedule. Due to some real world factors I'll be posting my next story only once a week, each Wednesday.
The big question is of course, why? Well, I've got something special coming. We Don't Just Fade Away didn't exactly blow the doors off, so I'll be going back to my roots and returning to my most popular character (no, not Tommy...) The new story isn’t the answer to Life the Universe and Everything... or is it?
See you Wednesday!

Police Dog as an Ongoing Series?
Posted 11 years agoSo an idea just hit me a couple of days ago. I'm currently thinking about Police Dog a lot these days, then I stumbled upon the old Canadian series The Littlest Hobo.
For those of you who don't know (and that's likely everyone who didn't grow up in Canada during the 80s), The Littlest Hobo was a live action television series about an unusually intelligent German Shepherd who roams from town to town helping people in need. He doesn’t speak, and there's no overarching storyline, but it's one of those series that's kind of the antithesis of what Hollywood produces.
And then it hit me. The idea doesn't really work for Forty-Two, but it would make a perfect setting for some type of ongoing Police Dog series...
So what do you think?
And I'll admit I was nearly in tears when I heard this theme song again for the first time in twenty years. I can't speak for anyone else, but, personally, it brings back memories of warm summer days, and the hardest problem I had to deal with being memorizing the multiplication table...

New Story Equals a (Delayed) New Cover

Up Next, The Pathfinders
Posted 12 years agoJust a heads up that I'll be delaying my normal Thursday post by a day. The new book will be starting this Friday to avoid it getting lost in the glut of submissions on all hallows eve.
And a thanks for all of those of you who've read/commented/faved. The story has been running for a while now. Much longer and I'm going to start wondering if I deserve an award for the longest single story on FA!
To make up for it, a piece of trivia:
The Pathfinders was originally going to be entitled The Renderers and take a completely different storyline. The original plan was for this book to follow Tommy and English as they circumnavigate the globe, chasing a Vanderhoom who somehow survived the events of The Hunters. It was originally going to be a tour de force of nothing but fight scenes as the two battle their way through hoards of henchmen. With a stop off in London for a spot of tea and an existential crisis where English learns just how bad his accent is.
That particular design never came to pass.
After coming back to the series I never felt conferable writing a book with no major plot line. So that idea was scrapped, and in its place a new story came together. Tommy and Co. have been through a lot of battles, fought more than their share of Bond style henchmen. It was time for something more.
Something bigger.
Something worse.
