GAME OF THE YEAR 2017
General | Posted 8 years agoGAME OF THE YEAR 2017
We all hope you all had a great Christmas/holiday season. Anyway, what were we playing over this year? Like last year, if a mod can't chose between two titles for GOTY we will be giving out our choice for honorable mention.
RESIDENT EVIL 7: BIOHAZARD
"For me 2017 will be a year of disappointments. In fact, the only game I showed interest in was "Mass Effect: Andromeda," however after watching some let's play videos on YouTube the interest vanished. It was pretty much the same all across the board. I didn't care about "C.O.D. W.W.2" nor "Wolfenstein." "South Park: Fractured But Whole" made me smile, but it looked nowehere as good as "Stick Of Truth." In fact, there were three games I played for Xbox this year; W.W.E. 2K18, Super Lucky's Tale and Resident Evil 7, and I wasn't prepared to give W.W.E. 2K18 my game of the year. Let's face it, the W.W.E. games are in the same category as N.B.A. 2K or the E.A. Sports Madden series. You're basically paying for a roster update and an updated Wrestlemania stage. Super Lucky's Tale I only heard about in October and playing it was a reminder of how long it's been since I played a platformer. Meaning I constantly fell off platforms and fell down pits constantly and nothing causes more frustration when you get the 4 leaf clover after spelling out Lucky and only to die seconds afterward. "Oh! You have no lives left, you must start the game world over again!" So, I came to R.E. 7 and I thought, 'I'll give it a go and see how I get along.' And FUCK ME, WHAT A DISTURBINGLY ABSORBING EXPERIENCE IT WAS!!! Within the first hour I got influences from "Texas Chainsaw Massacre," "Blair Witch Project," "Saw," "Hostel," "The Exorcist" and "House By The Cemetery." One of the big changes is the perspective has changed from third person to first person (obviously done for the V.R. market) and this doesn't break the immersion, in fact I found it makes it more immersive. With a plot setup that reminded me of "Silent Hill 2" and coupled with a dark, opressive feeling of forboding that stays throughout the experience I am happy to announce that Capcom have made the best Resident Evil game since "R.E. 4." Now all we have to do is wait for them to cock it up in R.E. 8, where Ethan Winters teams up with Claire Redfield to rescue Leon Kennedy from the ressurrected Osmund Saddler. Finally, I would like to end this review with a confession; Last summer I got myself a gaming P.C."
FORTNIGHT
"Fortnite is a seriously fun co-op experience that most will want to spend hours playing. There’s plenty of content, the gunplay is satisfying, and it runs well on the hardware as long as you’re comfortable playing at 30 FPS. I would love to see models added to the first-person viewpoint in the future, but even without that you’re still left with an impressive and expansive game comparable to the Horde mode from Gears of War that I’ve always loved. Based on this alone, I’d say Fortnite is well worth your time."

GAME OF THE YEAR 2016

We all hope you all had a great Christmas/holiday season. Anyway, what were we playing over this year? You might have noticed that in the past a mod can't choose between two titles for GOTY... and this year it happenned to
dannflor-316 . So, from this year, we will be giving out our choice for honorable mention. Sort of a; "We Recommend" title.
DARK SOULS 3
"I CHUFFING LOVE DARK SOULS!! So, expect this choice as the result of me being a fan... mostly. I loved the first Dark Souls on the 360, however I didn't really get into Dark Souls 2 all that much. If you aren't familiar with Dark Souls, it's a series of games based around the "dark fantasy" genre and is infamous for having a difficulty curve like slamming into a brick wall. Believe me, I never knew I had to research so much information for ONE GAME. I learned how to block and when to drop my shield, learned how to parry and when to dodge roll. When you put in the effort, you so reap the rewards! It was nice seeing a couple of familiar locations from the first Dark Souls, like Firelink Shrine and Kiln of the First Flame. A nice couple of shout-outs to the original Dark Souls game, they kept that improved "back-stabbing" mechanic from the second game and finally, it was Dark Souls! What does let it down are lag problems, difficulty can easily put off new players and not much variety in visuals (e.g. same looking environments). THE WINS ARE SO WORTH IT!"
Honorable Mention: PVZ GARDEN WARFARE 2
"I chose the original Plants V Zombies Garden Warfare for my GOTY back in 2014. I'm so happy to report that the fun, colour and variety has returned for the second GW and it's as dazzling as the original. Don't let the light tone pout you off and I don't care it's published by E.A."
ARK SURVIVAL EVOLVED
"This year I enjoyed playing Ark Survival Evolved the most. Taming dinosaurs that have a wide range of uses, plus also playing with friends makes it easy to lose track of time. Recently they made it easier to farm for materials and reduced tame times. I play on an official server with some friends and the only down side to playing online would be dealing with assholes in the game. On that note it's also not a perfect game and it has its bugs, but it always has me coming back to play."
Honorable Mention: WARFRAME
"My honorable mention would have to be Warframe, free to play and it's a game that the more you play the better stuff you can get."

Welcome Back

xboxfurries group wasn't able to be recovered.
To sum up, following the mass hack of furaffinty earlier on this year, the e-mail address to regain access to the original group was lost. So, welcome to the new home for xbox users of FA.net. The mods right now are working to put everything together and sorted out. Please bare with us for a bit longer.
