Posted 10 years agoSorry for the lack of posting! I've been all over the place in terms of... everything.
I recently got a job at Fabric Depot, which is a local fabric store that has AN ACRE of fabric.
(Also a really rad online store run in house, I would totally recommend checking us out!)
And that basically has taken up all the time I'm not in school. They took a look at my school schedule,
and basically asked me to come in all the time I'm not in classes.. and it takes an hour to get out there.
My goodness, I've been tired. Retail work is meh, but it's alright. I've been learning a lot about
different kinds of fabrics, and have had a few people come in for fursuit supplies, and I was able to help them.
One person even mentioned my name (Exene) was similar to their favorite fursuit maker.
And I was all like "Is it XENY?" And they were like "Oh my gosh yeah, you know them too?"
And I was all like "Erm, well, I am XENY." And they basically flipped their shit, and it was really weird???
Like, they were super kind, but it was such an odd place to be recognized, or be treated so nicely, wow.
So, I gave them fursuit advice, and let them know they could email me any time they needed help,
as any of you can do! I don't keep secrets, cause I don't got any!
Anyways, in other news, depression has really gotten a hold of me lately, but I really
don't want to talk about it any further than that. It's really been a bummer, but I'm going to
visit a counselor tomorrow for the first time in five or so years. Hopefully I can get help.
Lastly, I need to go study for my Art History midterm, which I've heard from several others
that is was the hardest test they ever took because of the dates.
Well, guess who is dyslexic... especially with numbers???

Posted 10 years agoI apologize for the delay! You are all so wonderful and patient!
I had sent the first half out (not the second, cause I JUST drew those!)
and all was well. They had enough stamps, and were in cute envelopes and everything!
However, after about two weeks of them floating somewhere in the mail system,
they all got sent back to me saying I didn't put enough stamps on them.
I put the same amount that I always did. And, oddly enough, some actually still went through and sent.
The required prices on the envelopes, even tho they had the same stuff inside, was varied!
Some asked for $0.50 more, and some asked for $10 more (some of the double badges).
I was, quite frankly, appalled!
I really want to send them all out in one batch, so I've been trying to get the funds to do so.
I'm going to take them directly to the office this time, however, to try and figure out what the heck happened!

and because I was rushing to get out of the house to catch my bus home,
I forgot my laptop's charger there.

Life Update
Posted 10 years agoThis is mainly a journal for me to get everything that I'd like to do down.
So, if ya wanna listen, please do! But, there is a TL;DR, as always :3
First things first: My health.
It's slowly declining, but it's entirely my fault.
Since entering college, I have gained around 40 or so pounds, which is appalling to me, especially in this short amount of time that I've been here.
I've identified why this happened: not enough exercise, and excess junk food.
Since I need to really watch my wallet, I've been buying cheap, unhealthy food.
Rarely does my fridge see fresh fruits and veggies.
But, as I was watching my wallet, I wasn't watching my weight.
And I started stress eating, as well as boredom eating, which is pretty much the same thing for me.
And that piled up quick.
And although I walk to all my classes, and walk to most places around town anyhow (such as Safeway),
that wasn't nearly enough exercise to be keeping me fit.
Since all of this, my knees have become weaker, my metabolism slower, and I've been having a harder time sleeping, along with feeling really self conscious and depressed.
SOLUTION
I've made myself a chart of things to do, and my boyfriend is going to be reminding me, since I also sent a chart.
I'm going to go to the gym TWICE a week, for at least an hour. Prolly Tuesday and Thursday.
On the days I don't, I'm going to, at home, do yoga and at least 75 crunches. Perhaps with some Just Dance, for fun.
I'm going to be EVEN better about drinking water.
I'm cutting soda and candy entirely from my diet, along with fast food.
I'm going to exchange quick meals with fresh food.
My turnaround time.
It's not great at all.
I keep taking more commissions than I should, and get way too overwhelmed.
On top of my part-time job, homework, and everything else, it's hard to focus on art.
But you all paid for my services, and I need to work on this a LOT.
SOLUTION
I'm going to commit myself to do AT LEAST one commission a day.
I'm only ever going to take a MAX of 10 commissions at a time.
Preferably, however, I'm going to only be doing 5 at a time.
Homework.
I've never been really great at doing homework on time, or quickly.
I generally put it off until the night before, and that just isn't working for me.
It's making me more stressed than I need to be.
I'm paying thousands of dollars for this education, so I better act like it.
SOLUTION
Homework before ANYTHING.
Do homework as SOON as it's assigned.
Other stuff!
I really wanna go to BLFC, but I need AT LEAST $200 for it.
In order to save, from now on, I'm going to put at least $20 in my savings every week, if not more.
I'll only ever use it for an emergency.
I'm only going to allow myself to buy food and art supplies from now on.
I need to start saving up for my rent this summer, and for cons.
I'm going to, at least once a week, work on something fursuit related.
I miss it a lot, and am so close to finishing TWO fursuits.
I'm not going to distance myself from people anymore.
I'm going to talk more, make more friends, and try to be social.
But, I'm also going to work hard, and not use friends as an excuse for not doing any of this.
TL;DR
I'm going to work out.
I am going to focus on art and homework more.
I need to get better at saving money.

I didn't want that sad journal up anymore, so yeREAL TALK RANT : I feel bummed, and this is why.
Posted 10 years agoOkay, this is really just gonna be a vent post, so you can click away if ya don't care to hear any of it.
Just really stuff I've been thinking and feeling, and just want to get it out somewhere.
I've been thinking a lot about myself as a fursuit maker- and many aspects of it.
It's one of the things that brings me the absolute most joy into my life-
along with actually fursuiting, but I'll save that for later down.
I enjoy making fursuits for myself, and for others too. I see many characters and would die to make them.
And seeing all the cute critters you all want me to make is amazing, and I want to make every single one someday.
I really do see this as my passion, and want to do this for many years to come.
I've only been doing this for three years (LGF officially turns 2 this June!), but I want three- no- 13 more!
I really want to advance my craft, continue making beautiful and fun critters,
and seeing my creations around the country- and maybe even the world!
But, lately, I feel like I have no time to do any of that.
The last time I even worked on a fursuit was in September, right before Rainfurrest.
(Minus a little in December, since I was making a premade, but it was literally a day, I made a base)
I've had all the neccessary elements to making a fursuit (WIP commissions, a sewing machine, EVERYTHING)
But never the time. I've always been working- and working in my friend's room, since I don't like my roommate.
I feel so sad over this. I really do wish I had the time to work on the suits I have
(a cute dinodog, an adorable polar bear, and a smiley opossum),
and more suits. I want to do commissions again!
I can barely keep afloat financially as it is tho. If I stopped doing everything that is taking up my time to work on suits, I'd be out of school and out of my place quicker than I can think about it.
I have a job, which has an hour commute. And that job is amazing, and I'd never quit if I could avoid it, it's just far away, and I don't get many hours, because I'm less than part time (on call, basically a filler).
I go to school full time and take close to the maximum amount of credits for my degree.
Then the homework hours are insane. Taking three studio art classes was dumb, but I did it, and I'm suffering because of it.
I keep on taking LOADS of commissions, to try and help with all of this blows that keep coming for me-
tooth surgery, charges on my school account, textbooks, food, the occassional fun item, clothes...
My parents can't send me anything because they can hardly pay their bills. And I don't have any other family members that can because they're all having financial troubles too.
(My gramma was sending me money monthly for a while- $50- but she needs all new teeth. Bad teeth run in my family. I have two more cavities, but can't afford to fill them. Along with FOUR wisdom teeth coming in.)
All I wanna do is save up for BLFC, but every time it looks like I may be able to go, something happens, and I have to spend all of my savings on it. I'm so tired of having $5 in my savings, and less than $100 in my checking. I hate that I have to buy the cheapest food, and that I'm gaining a bunch of weight because of it. It's all so stupid.
But, back to fursuits.
I want to make them. But, at other times, I feel discouraged.
There are two people out their with my work who either don't recommend me to people
("Who made your suit?" "LGF, but I don't suggest you work with them")
or don't even mention my hard work at all. It's a bummer knowing I've spent countless hours on their work to have it all thrown away like that. I know there are many of you who want my suits, but people telling others my work isn't worth it over easily fixable things? I'm not some professional maker, I'm still learning. I try my best every time, but I feel that it isn't enough sometimes. And the same goes for art commissions- people expect me to work on their commission the second they ask, and expect me to be some kind of robot, but I'm not.
I realize I'm not the fastest worker, but please cut my some slack. It's so hard.
I miss fursuiting. I have both of my fursuits here in college with me, but they're just sitting in a bin, in the dark, waiting for me to open it. But I rarely do. And that makes me sad.
The amount of joy I receive from fursuiting is beyond what I can explain. I really really just want to suit up and walk around Portland- that would be the greatest.
And my local furs always have these lovely meets that I can't ever get to, because I'm shy, and don't have a great way to get there with a suit.
IDK, I'm just complainging I suppose.
I just am in love with the entire world of fursuits, and wish I could be apart of it more than I am now.
There are more things I'm sure I forgot, but whatever, this is a rant.

I thought, "That's amazing! But I'd never be that appreciated."

You will get a commission or two with the same value as the item.

You will get commissions with the same value, plus 25% off your next paid art commission.

You will get commissions with the same value, plus 25% off ALL of your paid art commissions.

Intuos Pro Pen and Touch Medium - $350
I really, really need a new tablet. I have been using the SAME Bamboo Pen small tablet since 2007. Yes, 8 years of the same tablet. And while it's held up amazingly well for how long I've had it, I can see the wear and tear starting to get to it. If you could purchase this for me, I would be an art slave for a long ass time, and you get 25% off all aid art commissions if you decide to commission me after you get a bunch of art from me.

When you commission me, you are agreeing to these terms.
IF YOU ARE RUDE TO ME, YOU WILL BE BLOCKED.
Simple as that. I cannot handle that amount of extra stress
My turnaround time is pretty SLOW.
Not only do I work on art commissions, I run a monthly subscription club on Patreon, work on fursuits, and have a life! Turnaround will be slow. Always. Do not ask when your work will be done, because...
I do not offer deadlines on any of my work.
This creates rushed work, and is too stressful for me.
I do not offer refunds - unless I am the one giving them out.
This is 100% where my income comes from!
I live paycheck to paycheck, and more often than not, I do not even have to money to give out refunds.
ESPECIALLY NOT FOR FINISHED ART. DO NOT ASK FOR A REFUND AFTER RECEIVING ART.
If you are unpleased with a part of your digital art, you may ask me to change it.
Please do not expect me, however, to redo the entire commission. I will not make large changes.
I do not send WIPS, so please don't ask.
Unless it is a large project, or I want to send WIPs for it, do not expect WIPs
Do not send me a note asking if I forgot your commission, or when it will be done.
Unless your name isn't on here, I know I owe you something. And asking me when it will be done will not help anyone. It will only stress me out further.
I am not responsible if your art is lost in the mail
If you do not receive your art, I cannot replace it, unless it's digital. But please, send me a few extra dollars to reprint, re-laminate, and re-ship your art.
Shipping Times
I bike everywhere I go, thus shipping times may be delayed! However, they WILL go out. I'll try to get them as soon as I possibly can!
The colors on printed art will not be exact.
I often work in RGB, and the printers I use are CMYK. This may cause some printed art to come out slightly different. It shouldn't be too noticeable however!

Posted 11 years agoI took everyone's advice, and sent an email to my client.
It was polite and nicely worded.
I told her, basically, that freelance artists depend on payments of their clients,
and it really hurts financially when these payments aren't received
(I've been living off of about $15 a week... no where near enough!)
I told her she had two weeks to reply (not even to send any money, just reply)
or else I would assume the commission is off.
From then, I would alter the character, and auction it off.
And it's a fullsuit, so I could get quite a boost and savings from it.
In any case, I hope she replies.

Posted 11 years agoSo, I have been working on a fullsuit- the slot that I opened up for in June.
I'm fairly close to finishing, and everything has been pretty smooth-
except for contacting my client.
It has been since September 24th since I have actually heard from her,
and that reply was about a week and a half after the previous reply.
I've sent her many emails wondering what has happened to her.
I'm a little worried, honestly.
But the thing that is bothering me is that the payments are late.
We set up a payment plan to have $100 each Friday. All of those are late.
Then, in her last message, she promised to send the remaining $600 in one lump sum.
Which also did not happen.
Now, this wouldn't bother me as much if she didn't promise to send the payment.
And the fact that I wouldn't be barely scraping by right now if I had gotten said payment.
I know she is alive and active, because she has been fairly active on YouTube (liking videos, etc)
I'm curious as to why she has not replied to me for so long. Her excuses seemed alright at first,
but seemed to get more and more extreme (not that I don't believe her, it just keeps happening)
I'm not really sure what to do at this point, as my terms of service does not outline this kind of problem.
Except that if she decides she no longer wants the suit, I can sell it as a premade.
Does anyone have any advice?
I want to be polite and kind, but I'm getting impatient.
