Posted 14 years agoAnyone with half a brain knows what the deal is with the SOPA blackout, because even if you didn't know about SOPA before the sites that are blacked out have it rather blatantly explained for you.
However, it goes without saying that there are more than a few dumbasses out there who can't be bothered to read stuff that would inform them of what's going on. And we can now point and laugh at these morons.

Coolest racecar ever?

Goddamn Thunderkittens...
Posted 14 years agoI like the new Thundercats series. Kind of odd since I could never stand the original, but nonetheless I like it. With one...small... exception... The fucking Thunderkittens.
Now, I have jokingly played up my dislike of them to friends. But I can now say, with a fair amount of seriousness, that if I ever meet the douchebag who decided to not only put them on a sugar high, but WEAPONIZE said sugar high, I will rip his head off and stick it on a pike as a reminder to the next ten generations that some ideas are simply too horrible to go with. I'll look up into his lifeless eyes, smile and wave, just like this. *waves fingers*

RIP Marco Simoncelli...
Posted 14 years agoNot even quite a full week after the loss of Dan Wheldon, MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli died from injuries suffered in a lap 2 crash at the Malaysian Grand Prix. He was 24.
Simoncelli had brought about more than his fair share of controversy over the past season due to his aggressive riding style. But regardless, he did not deserve to meet such an early end. May he rest in peace.

Playstation Network's Terms of Service update...
Posted 14 years agoSo, Sony updated their Terms of service for the Playstation Network recently. The update included a "class action waiver," meaning you agree to waive your right to file or participate in a class action lawsuit against Sony for anything related to PSN.
Needless to say, there's been a lot of complaints about this as well as threats to boycott PSN. I will now add my two cents to the matter.
I say to all the people who are complaining and threatening these boycotts: SHUT THE FUCK UP, SIT YOUR ASS DOWN, AND PLAY THE GODDAMN VIDEO GAMES.
Seriously, you're complaining about this because you don't know jack shit about the issue. It's not something worth complaining about, or even a boycott, because this waiver will not hold up in court.
A corporation cannot force you to waive your right to a lawsuit of any type in order to use their services. It's a violation of a number of laws, not to mention the friggin' Constitution. They can require you to attempt finding a solution through arbitration or mediation before resorting to a lawsuit, but an outright block on filing lawsuits is not allowed.
This matter will go away the moment somebody with the time and knowledge decides to challenge it. So what if that might not happen until Sony fucks up again? It's not worth wasting your time bitching about.
Not to mention Sony fucked themselves over with this since they only blocked class action lawsuits and 9 times out of 10 one class action lawsuit is less damaging than 5,000 individual lawsuits.
Not to mention you can opt out of the class action lawsuit ban.

Costume creator needed.
Posted 14 years agoFirst and foremost: READ THIS ENTIRE JOURNAL BEFORE CONTACTING ME. TL;DR is not a valid excuse and attempts to invoke it will not be treated kindly.
With the main warning out of the way, let's get to the point. I need someone who will create specialized costumes on commission for something I'd like done up. You will have to PM me for details as I do not want to outline it all here and potentially start a pricing war over this, particularly given that this may or may not end up happening.
I'm looking to have this done for a little something that's still a ways down the road. I don't know when or if I'll even be able to afford to do this - depending on the price of what I need I could have this going next time I get paid, or never be able to afford it.
I will say this right now: It is NOT a fursuit. It is much more simple overall, but still well outside my ability to do on my own.
If you're seriously interested, PM me. Feel free to link some examples of what you've done in the past. I'll send you back the details for what I'm interested in, then you can send me back a price quote.
Just keep in mind that there is no guarantee of anything on this, so don't be setting aside anything in anticipation of some work just yet.

What has blown my mind? A friend of mine showed me a recording of the 1989 Australian 500GP.
To quote Neo, "whoa."
Sadly, words cannot describe the awesomeness and nobody has seen fit to put highlights on Youtube. Just know that this was a truly mindblowing event and if you ever stumble across a recording, be it on a torrent site, some kind of DVD, or whatever, you MUST watch it.

Brian Barnhart attempts to murder IndyCar drivers...
Posted 14 years agoIndyCar Series race director Brian Barnhart, henceforth referred to as Brian Brainfart, has committed the most unacceptable, unforgivable, unfathomable error in the entire history of motorsports.
Brainfart has a history of making poor decisions in his tenure as IndyCar race director. He has frequently been criticized for lack of consistency, unnecessary penalties, and letting blatant rules violations go untouched. But now he has crossed a line never before crossed by any race controller in motorsports history.
And I'm only SLIGHTLY exaggerating when I refer to it as attempted murder.
Today's IndyCar race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was unfortunately affected by weather. Unlike on road courses, rain tires can not be safely deployed on oval tracks, so when rain came the caution had to come out. It never got heavy enough to red flag the race, and the race was able to go back to green after an initial brief and very light shower was dried up quite quickly by the cars rolling around under yellow.
It was the second weather-induced yellow flag that caused the problem.
After several caution laps, Brainfart decided to go back to green over the constant protests of virtually every driver and team owner on the track. The result was a massive crash taking out several cars, and a red flag. The race was eventually called official(ten laps shy of scheduled distance), and the running order on the run up to the green flag was declared the official finishing order.
At the time the green was thrown, the track had more water on it than when the yellow flag was thrown. Only the simplest of visual analysis was required to see that condition were unsafe to proceed. Brainfart defends his choice by saying they heard nothing from any drivers, nor teams.
This is not a valid excuse. Brainfart should have been able to tell that the track was unsafe with no outside input. And it is most likely a complete lie - the teams were damn near yelling at the officials in pit lane, and Brainfart expects us to believe not one notified him? Epic fail.
Racing is dangerous, this is true. But it is expected that a degree of safety should be followed to minimize the likelihood of injury. To that end, going to green when it is physically impossible is considered crossing the line of acceptable risk.
The drivers and teams are all calling for Brainfart's head. He put the drivers in an unacceptably risky situation, and it is time for him to be removed. This "error" was so egregious that I hoenstly believe that Brainfart should be charged with felonious assault AT MINIMUM.
Brian Barnhart is a greater insult to racing than Nelson Piquet, Jr. And people who know me are well away of how much I despite Piquet.

Time to switch banks...
Posted 14 years ago...It seems my current bank(USBank) signed me up for a health insurance policy without checking with me first. It was a good policy at $30 a month, but in addition to it being unapproved, there were two other problems...
1) I already have sufficient coverage courtesy of my employer(and an employer who will make goddamn sure they won't be able to weasel out of paying)
2) This is a company that we once used for our insurance through work. We abandoned them when they found out about my condition and tried to weasel out of covering me(my boss gave them an ultimatum: Cover me the way they cover everyone else or we find a new company. They tried to call his bluff)
So yeah, I don't trust this company anyway. Waiting for the refund of the first payment to be credited.
It really sucks since USBank is the first halfway decent bank I've ever had an account with.

Looking for MMO gaming partner(s)
Posted 14 years agoBefore I go any further let me make on thing clear: I'm not going to be playing with just any Random J. Fuckball who's interested. I'm looking for a serious and (more importantly)friendly player who's around to play reasonably often but not nearly constantly - I'm not giving up my life to this game. Just someone who's looking to have some fun now and then and doesn't take things too seriously.
Someone who shares similar interests to me, like motorsports, and wouldn't mind chatting about other things when not playing would be preferred - I prefer to play with people I can reasonably consider to be friends(even if they're only online friends). None of my current friends are interested in(or in some cases able to) join up, unfortunately.
So what MMO is this? Champions Online: http://www.champions-online.com/
The game is free to play(though certain spiffs require payment), and quite good. Fully customizable keymapping and the ability to use an XBox360 controller(if you have the USB receiver) which is similarly customizable.
Now, here's the most important thing about the matter: I do NOT want to play the game with anyone who doesn't find it very enjoyable. So if you're at all interested in playing, download, build your character, finish the tutorial, and if you're enjoying it, contact me.
I cannot emphasize that enough: DO NOT BOTHER CONTACTING ME BEFORE YOU KNOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU ENJOY THE GAME. I'm not trying to force anyone into liking something they have no interest in.
I have two characters: One I play solo with on a semi-regular basis, and one I just created with the possibility of cooperative play in mind. I'm not missing out on much if no ideal co-players turn up. Do NOT feel obligated to try this if you don't find it interesting.
All that said, if the game looks interesting to you, go try it. Even if you're not necessarily interested in being my co-player. I know for some people out there the insane level of character customization will be more than enough to get you trying it.

Videos and photos delayed...
Posted 14 years agoDue to a couple of problems, the videos and photos from Lake Erie Speedway have been delayed. The reasons are:
1: Having not used it much before now, I only just discovered that my cell phone camera has no zoom function and I was unable to take any good photos from my vantage point.
2: We forgot to bring the new video camera, so my friend's Android phone is the only source of video we got.
I'll be getting pictures and video from my friend eventually, so I'll post some stuff once I've got it.
Been years since I've been to a paved short track. I forgot how loud those late models are. Too bad the video probably won't get that across...

Surprise photo and vdeo batch coming tomorrow(hopefully).
Posted 14 years agoThe other day I was surprised with a batch of tickets to tonight's Saturday night short track races at Lake Erie Speedway. Although I don't exactly explode with excitement over oval track racing, short tracks are my preferred form of oval actions and I wasn't about to pass up free tickets. Particularly not when one of the scheduled races is one of my favorite form of short-track oval racing: MODIFIEDS!
But in any case, I'll be trying to get some reasonably images from my cell phone camera, and we'll also be testing a digital video mini-camera we just got. Any good video I get will be converted to SWF and uploaded alongside any good pictures I manage to take.
Won't be able to worry about it tonight as I have to go to work almost immediately after I get back - if things run late I'll actually have to leave early in order to get to work on time.

Could someone please explain...
Posted 14 years ago...how the FUCK "invasion of privacy" is a reasonable argument against traffic enforcement cameras? They've started putting a few in my area and of course the opposition brings that up as their FIRST reason for demanding their removal. I have never been able to figure out how such a stupid(yes, STUPID) argument could even be considered in this matter.
I'm an opponent of speed cameras(but supporter of stoplight cameras), but I at no point ever even assumed invasion of privacy was an issue with these things.
Someone PLEASE explain this to me!

Top Gear America picked up for a second season!
Posted 15 years agoAwesome news courtesy of the folks at Finalgear.com, but Top Gear America has been officially picked up for a second season, the filming of which will begin in the spring. The hosts will remain unchanged, a decision both Finalgear and I agree with - though initially there was questionable chemistry between the hosts of the show, by the end of the first season I felt they worked very well together and would have been disappointed to see any of them go.
Jeremy Clarkson of the original Top Gear UK was pleased with the decision as well:
"Top Gear is our baby so you can understand why Hammond, May and I were anxious about passing it on to the presenters of the US show. We needn’t have worried because Top Gear is clearly in safe hands, even if they do insist on speaking in those stupid accents. Watching an episode from series 1 with Richard and James, we found ourselves in a genuinely heated debate about which of the presenters’ cars was best. We were just three ordinary chaps watching a car show and loving it, which is exactly what Top Gear should be. Bring on series 2."
I very much agree, Mr. Clarkson. Bring it on!

Get well, Kubica!
Posted 15 years agoRobert Kubica, Poland's first F1 driver AND race winner, has suffered severe injuries in a rally car crash. The injuries are not life-threatening, but he has suffered multiple fractures and possible nerve damage to his right leg and arm. His hand is of particular concern, as it may be rendered unusable by the injuries. It is unlikely he will be on the F1 grid at any point in the season, and his racing career as a whole may be finished as a result of this. It's looking like a full year of recovery best-case.
Here's hoping he has a complete recovery from his injuries and we can see him back on the grid in 2012. He's a very well-liked and talented driver and it would be a great shame for F1 to lose him.

Law Abiding Citizen...
Posted 15 years agoWatched this movie last night courtesy of Netflix and...Hooooooly shit. Been a LONG time since a movie had me THAT spellbound. I'm amazed it got such poor reviews. The negative reviews of it are why I shoved it aside and never bothered watching it - guess I should have paid attention when Roger Ebert gave it a 3 out of 4 when almost no one else would.
For all it's inaccuracies about the legal system, the creepiest thing about the film is that the methodology Clyde Shelton uses is rather sound. It would be VERY feasible for him to do all this in the way presented.
If I ever make a personal Top Ten Favorite Movies list, this will be a contender for a spot on it.
On that note, I re-watched it tonight with my family since I knew they'd like it. And one scene caused my DAD of all people to jump out of his seat.
