The speed of FA.
Posted 13 years agoYou know, I've not noticed any trouble with the speed of FA as opposed to any other websites I've used tonight. In fact, FA has been faster than some of the stuff I've been on like my credit union website.
Now I do have fast internet, But even on my cell it's not been slow. So I just don't see what everyone has been on about.
Given, I haven't uploaded anything since FA has been back up, so I don't know if that is the issue, but otherwise the site seems just fine to me.
Is it just uploading that's the issue? Or is this whole thing more in people's heads than real?

Posted 14 years agoI know it's been a long time since I put any stuff up here, just wanted to let y'all know I'm still alive, just been so busy with work that I haven't had time to really do much in the photography / art department. Hoping that I get to be a little more into that soon.

Ups and downs in Brevard.
Posted 14 years agoI know I've been pretty quiet lately, but there's been good reason. Over the last 6 months I've been having to deal with some real craziness and that's left me with my hands full. It's also been both a great boon and a great burden. I guess we'll start back in March....
About a week after Mothers day in March, my boyfriend's mother calls and tells him that his grandmother is in very poor health and not expected to live much longer. She asks him to come and live at his grandmother's house to help take care of her. This is a pretty bad time for us, but she is distraught and because we do care for his grandmother and want to help Xan goes to live with her.
The expectation was that this would be a week or two at the most and then Xan would come home again, but that isn't how it worked out. Fast forward 2 months.... It's now May, I've been living alone in the apartment in Apopka for the last 2 months trying to find work and Xan is still over in Brevard at his grandmothers. For a while we were hoping that his grandmother might recover, but she didn't. Her health takes a turn for the worse and late in May, she passes on. Xan calls me around 11am and says he'll be home later after things get tied up there, then we'd head back over in a week for the funeral. Then our lives would get back to normal. That didn't happen.
It turns out his mother had asked him to stay there and help with taking care of things till after the funeral. But I was then asked if I wanted to come over and spend a little time with Xan, I'd barely seen him in 2 months so I jumped at the chance. I ended up being asked to stay and help with the funeral as well, so I was going to end up spending a week or so, then we would both be going back to Apopka. That didn't happen either.
The funeral came and went. I was gald I got to be a part of it honestly because I thought rather highly of Xan's grandparents, and I wasn't at his grandfather's funeral. Anyway at this point we're asked to stay on at the grandparents house for a little bit, just to take care of things. Having a little bit of free time for the first time since I had been in Brevard, I decide to see what the work situation over here is. To my surprise after a scant 3 days of looking I not only land a job for myself, but also for Xan! While this is happening Xan's aunt Terry is waffling over weather or not she wants to buy the grandparent's house, and Xan and I are in a situation of having work in Brevard, but an apartment in Apopka. Then Xan's mother asks that we stay there to keep the house lived in until she can sell it. Xan's parents offered to let him use their spare car for work and I mentioned renting the house for a while, perhaps eventually buying it if Terry wasn't interested in it and since we now needed somewhere to live in Brevard county.
So I started working, Xan and his parents started getting the spare car ready and things appear to be going well. Xan and I talk with his mother about renting the house if Terry doesn't want it. She says she would do that for a while till she decides to sell the house. Based on this, both of us working and the end of our current lease in Apopka coming at the end of June we don't reup our lease. It wouldn't have been practical for us to do so anyway with our work in Brevard. So at this point we're moved into the old grandparents house, under the auspice that we're going to be renting it, and both be working with Xan using his parents spare car. We've gone from being unemployed in a small apartment in Apopka, to both employed, living in a nice little house with a pool on the beach! Sound to good to be true? Turns out it was...
Terry decided that she didn't want the house. Xan's parents, Xan, and I decided that we would pay the power and water bills here, and stay here till we could start renting the place fully. Xan and I moved our stuff out of the old apartment and into the house, and things went smoothly for about a week.
Xan interviewed about 4 days after I did so he ended up with a start date a week later than I did. He was going to be full time just like I am and between the two of us we would have been able to afford things with little problem. But a couple days before he was supposed to start Xan's parents started getting dodgy about the car and deciding just a day before he was supposed to start that he couldn't use it. I spent the next two weeks trying to keep Xan's spot open while we tried to work out something between him and his parents for the car, before they decided to sell it to us. But by the time we did get the car though it was too late and Xan got pushed into a "reserve driver" position. In this position he got no hours unless someone else called in.
This is where things started to crumble because with half the income, we couldn't afford to rent the house, we could barely afford to keep up with the bills we had between trying to take care of bills from the apartment and our bills here. At this point, Xan's parents decided we couldn't afford to rent the house, and started trying to sell it again. While still holding us responsible for the power and water bills at the house. So not only was Xan not working because they went back on the car, but we were being held to paying the bills that we agreed to as part of getting to rent the house. And because we no longer had an apartment to go back to we were now stuck pretty much having to do it. They fucked around till Xan all but lost his job and then reniged on letting us rent the house when it was their fault our finances were now crippled.
I do my best for the next 2 months to keep up with the bills, maintinance, and trying to put a little bit away to try and get a place before the house we're in is sold from under us. Being the only one working this doesn't go well, the bills don't always get paid on time and I can't save anything up because it's all gone pretty much the day I get paid. Since we had the second car and it is more fuel efficient than my 240SX, I end up driving it (2002 Hyundai Accent), for work. After almost 2 months one of the other workers where I'm working wants to step down and be a reserve driver, and I'm able to get Xan put into that slot! Finally! I have us both working again! I think to myself that the struggle is over! Now we'll be able to put away money to rent somewhere to live and get out of the grandparents house before it's sold! I'm elated... for 2 days.
Just 2 days after we both start working, the transmission goes out of the Hyundai, and estimates for it's repair range around $1,200. I had managed to save up about $100... not even close. I tried to get a loan, but I haven't been at this job long enough. I'm looking for other ways to get this problem resoved and get the car back on the road, but it's going to be hard with us again down to one person working. Along with this, someone has offered to buy the house we're in. If they confirm that offer with a payment, we need to be out of here asap. (Not that we don't already want out of here all things concidered).
So this is where we stand right now. Xan is working, I'm trying to get a transmission in our second car so I can go back to work, and not only is the clock ticking to get the car fixed so I can get working agian but the countdown till someone else owns this house is running. This is it, if I can fix the car, we'll both be working / able to afford a place / doing alright, if I can't we'll be right back to square one, out of work and homeless. I'm doing everything I can to prevent the latter.
There you go, what I've been doing for the last 6 months. I'm still hopeful that I can fix things. Wish us luck, we're going to need it.

Broadsided.
Posted 14 years agoI've had about a million different things going through my head. Of which I'm capable of bringing very few out of my head and into the world where others can see / hear them. It's like I'll have nothing special hit me for months, then all the sudden out of the blue a whole bunch of stuff will come flying into my head. Ideas for music, stories, photos... I really need to learn how to use more audio software for the musical stuff. and to make a pen do more than just make chicken scratches when I put it to paper.
i feel like I've been broadsided by tons of ideas. Things that I want to get out of my head, but I can't because of my lack of knowing how. That and over the years to be honest, I've forgotten a lot of the things I used to know. And with all the other crap I've been having to deal with this kind of stuff keeps getting backburnered to oblivion. Even at that though, these thoughts and ideas still hammer at my brain now and again trying to make me express them somehow.
My creativity is shackled by my lack of knowledge, and my bank account. One of those things I can fix for free, I guess that's a good place to start.

Goodbye 2010, hello 2011!
Posted 15 years agoWell, 2010 was a year that saw a couple good things happen for 
xansteel and I, but all in all it was a year of sacrificing and giving up things dear to us just to try and get by. Still, there were some good times. And we did get to spend a little time with friends. I even made it to a con for the first time in 6 years. So despite all the bad, I'll consider it a better year than 2009.
So far, 2011 is off to a good start! Got to hang out with some awesome people and get myself hammered. *laughs* but beyond that, there was a lot of happy, and that's what really made it great. If I make any new years resolution this year, that's what it's going to be. I really want to spend more time with my friends, and get to more get togethers. I've been out of the loop for ages, and now that finances are looking a little better it should be a little easier for us.
I'm hoping that in this new year, things keep getting better. It's way overdue.

FA hacked, and the panic has ensued.
Posted 15 years agoSo I've been hearing a lot lately about FA getting hacked, and how people are freaking out. Notes are hacked! Galleries wiped! Oh shit son! We gotta' get off FA RIGHT NOW!...
Every website that is any kind of popular eventually gets hacked. It happens. Running from one website to another doesn't fix the problem, and you're just kidding yourself if you think that any website is really any safer than any other. If some of the most secure websites in the world, like government sites and such can be hacked, do you really think a site like DA, or FA, or anything of that nature could be more secure?
I guarantee that your email, IM's, any website you use, and your credit card information, will some day fall into the wrong hands. It just happens. Best thing to do, is just be ready for it when it does, fix it when it happens, and move on with life.
Besides, the honest truth is that we're just not that important. Who ever is hacking this stuff is doing it just to laugh at the people that freak out, not because they're trying to discover all our little secrets. I honestly think people are worrying far too much.

Megaplex 9
Posted 15 years ago Was going to actually write a con report, but the time just isn't there for me. And really, others have already covered all the ins and outs, so I'll keep it simple.
After not having been to a con in 6 years, I didn't even know what to expect anymore. So many things have changed, and though some of the folks there were the same old crew I've known from before, there were a lot of new faces. On that note, the crowd at Megaplex were some of the warmest people I've seen in a long time, and the atmosphere was just awesome. Everyone was just happy to be there. Or maybe I was just happy enough to be there that if there was any discontent, I didn't notice it.
The con was a real blast, and I can't wait till I get to do it again. Not sure what my next one will be yet, but I'm doing that again as soon as I can. :)

Mobile FA
Posted 15 years agoSo I have a new phone now that runs Android. (Which is turning out to be pretty awesome!) And I can browse the pages of FA when I don't have the luxury of a laptop or other computer on me.
I know Dragoneer has already come out and said there will never be a mobile app for FA, but I'm hoping that the site will still work with mobile browsers after the switchover.

I know Dragoneer has already come out and said there will never be a mobile app for FA, but I'm hoping that the site will still work with mobile browsers after the switchover.

With just one drawing you can make people laugh, cry, fel the warm fuzzies of love, the bitter sting of rage, or the most loin tingling lust. In that amazing ability lies your true power. And it is for that reason I have one humble request...
Please stop drawing adorable, sweet bondage drawings!
I have never really been into bondage, but I find myself getting boners now over some of this stuff because it's just so cute! It hits one of my weakest spots by being so cute / sweet, and the "Dawww" effect is starting to bleed over!
So please, for my sanity, and piece of mind, stop making bondage look so adorable... or I'm gonna' crack and start... liking it.

Posted 15 years agoI haven't listened to this band since they were still doing covers of Metallica songs. I was rather pleased to see they've taken on a life of their own and are putting out some really great music now.

Posted 15 years agoI hate nuking submissions and stuff, but the battle to reclaim my cue was simply impossible. Closest I ever got was just a hair under 3000. had to hit the nuke button.
I just never have the time for this that I wish I did, but unfortunately I don't. Love the site, love the artists and friends I follow, but there just aren't enough hours in my day to trudge through it all.

Trying to be motivated.
Posted 16 years agoI need to shoot my camera more. I've been trying to find the time to get out and do that, but it's difficult right now. As well, having to sell my good camera has left be back on my P&S, which is good for that class, but it's still like being downgraded from a Mustang, to an Escort.
I got used to having something much more powerful, and sometimes I look at the shots I get out of my current camera and just feel that they're not as good. I need to get over that, I know this. I've always been a firm believer that if you know your gear you can do most anything with it. But I've been out of the loop for a while, and really need to get back into it.
So, that said, I'm going to try, (I can't make any guarantees right now), to get back into doing more shooting, even if it's just silly stuff to get me back behind a camera, where I belong. And of course, the results will come here. I've spent most of my life behind a camera in one way or another and really don't want it to end now.
On a related note, things in my life have been changing. Slowly, but they are changing. And depending on what happens in the next three to four weeks, I may just get to spend a lot more time traveling and shooting my camera. But we'll have to see about that one when and if the opportunity presents it's self. I can't go into much detail there, as I don't have many details to give yet. But here's hoping that life is going to get a lot better soon. :)

Posted 16 years agoFurloween 10 was a riot! So much fun. I didn't even think I'd get to go, but at the last minute a couple friends came along and got Xan and I over there.
It was awesome to get to see some of my friends again, so many people I hadn't seen in literally years. I had a ball. Xan had fun too, it was just a great night.
Mach, Yappy, and the staff at the Elks club did a fantastic job with the party.
I need more nights like that in my life, I spend far too many days away from all my friends.

Posted 16 years agoI know it's been a while since I posted anything that was really artsy on here. I've just been so busy. That and having to sell my good camera really hurt my ability to go out there and get the good shots. I honestly wish I could dive into a shoot right now, it's great therapy.
I'm sorry as well that I haven't been able to check out all the art from the folks I've watched. Y'all put out such awesome stuff, but I just can't keep up with the flood of bitchin' art. Things haven't been all wine and roses for us here, and my free time to even so much as post on here is almost nonexistent. I try to keep up with y'all but it's rough. Still, I'm thinkin' about ya'.
Hopefully things will come around and I'll be able to be more involved / post more again. I honestly miss it quite a bit, because I look at every post I make here, as the result of something cool, even if it was only a moments inspiration.

Well, it's official.
Posted 16 years agoYesterday, I had to watch my beloved camera walk out the door. That was hard on me considering that it's one of the things I love most. I still have my A550, so you'll still see photos from me, but I've taken a big step backwards in hardware. And my art is sure to reflect that. I can do a lot with my little A550, But it's like going from a V8 to a slant 6. I'm taking a big hit in horsepower.
Ironically, this same week, a friend of mine is selling his Canon DSLR for half the price that he got it for, and I can't afford it. Anyone got $400? *laughs*

it's part of a phishing scheme that will allow whoever's doing this to steal your Steam user account and forward the invite to those on your user list.
So in short, be very careful when you log into stem if someone sends you a link, be sure that if you're logging into the steam communities, you see

Posted 16 years agoPhotography is my passion. It's one of the few things that I really love doing. It's one of the things I wish I could do for a living.
When I was younger, I had a full 35mm rig built around a Canon SL1. I had to give it up because I needed the money to pay bills. And now, I find myself in the exact same spot.
My SX10-IS is up on Ebay. I hate doing this, but I need the cash, and everything else I own is too damn old to be worth anything. I pray that it sells, though in the back of my mind, I'd almost rather be homeless. That camera is more than a camera, it's a step towards a dream. A dream that I've had to step back from before, and now all these years later, I'm doing it again, and it still kills me.
