As I'm starting to get into more than just photography, and things like Painter and Photoshop are able to do amazing things with them. But I don't have the coin to spring for a new one. I asked around a little bit, to see if there was any swap sheets for artsy stuff, and was surprised to find that there was none!

Why I haven't been around much lately.
Posted 17 years ago Well, it’s been an interesting month, that I can say for sure. Last month, as many of you know, my boyfriend and I lost our home, and most of our belongings in the process of trying to save it. That, along with having vehicular break downs on BOTH of our trucks put us in a pretty bad spot. We ended up losing our jobs, due to not having reliable transportation, and weren’t able to find anything within walking distance to get any money coming in.
Fortunately, one of our friends down south a ways was kind enough to take us in. Unfortunately, we are now literally in the middle of nowhere, and still have only one of our two trucks functioning, and that one functions poorly. I’m thinking I can at least get the Ram functioning alright here (hopefully) myself. Not sure about the other one. It either blew it’s slave cylinder, or a hose, things have been so hectic here, I haven’t had the chance to look it over yet, but at the most, it’s going to be about $160 to fix. That would be a good thing, but for the fact that we’ve literally got no money. I’ve been trying to scrape up cash where I could find it, but it’s been really hard with how little there is out here to do for cash. And family not being able to help much as well.
There is some hope though, I’ve been in contact with work, and they’re trying to help me out with a long term contract job, so I can get us back on our feet. but here in lies a critical problem. I’m 2.5 hours south of Orlando, and that’s where the job is. With our vehicles both in shambles, that’s just too far to drive daily. I’ve been looking for somewhere in Orlando to stay, but so far haven’t found anything. I make $18 an hour through these people, and with how desperate our situation is, I’d hate to lose the opportunity to have that kind of cash flow. It’s not a lot for someone living in Orlando, but it’d be enough to get us back under our own roof, and start paying things back we owe. Prey for me on this one, I need all the luck I can get here.
If that doesn’t come through for us, we still really need somewhere else to go. I’ve been looking around at just about anyplace that has a decent cost of living, and would be willing to go just about anywhere as long as I can find the money to get there and we could make it with these old trucks. Someone suggested texas to us, I’m game, jut need to find some work there first. Hard part there though, is trying to find a job when you don’t live near by. Most places won’t even give you so much as five seconds of thought if you’re not a local.
I’m really hoping I can find a way to pick up this gig in Orlando, it’d b a life saver right now. If anyone has a place we could stay, or knows someone who might, toss me a line here, or at xoagray(at)gmail.com. Right now, it’d mean the world, because I’ve pretty much got this job there handed to me. If I can find a place to stay.

Fighting the good fight.
Posted 17 years agoWell, it's about done. We've been up and down the streets of Orlando as far as we could with no vehicles, and nothing around here has been hiring. Barring the Winn-Dixie that could offer a couple 4 hour shifts a week at $7 something an hour. We have no money for food, no money for rent, and no money for repairing our vehicles. We've exhausted everything we could do, and sold everything that was worth enough to make a difference. There's just nothing left for us to try, or do to stay here. And every day that goes by, I've been amazed so far that we haven't had a note on our door with the date we need to move out by.
We've been fighting eviction from here for months, but it's a losing battle. People have come to our aid, but while the money only trickled in, the bills flooded. it's only prolonged the inevitable. I don't know where we're going to go from here, it'll be out of Orlando that's almost certain. I'll miss the friends I've made here, but that's about the only thing I'll regret about leaving it.
All I can do now, is look ahead, and hope that tomorrow's a better day. I do want to thank everyone that tried though, a few people come forward to help us out, and it was very very nice of them to do so. I wish things could have worked out better for us here, but I guess it's really for the best. We've been struggling here for far too long, perhaps a change of location would make for a fresh start. And I know leaving Florida would help us out as far as cost of living goes. Xan and I both have a plan, a place in life we'd like to get to. And I know it'd be easier if we were somewhere it cost less to do stuff. Perhaps, this is just fate pushing us in the direction we need to go. It's definitely for sure, that something has to change.
I don't know how long I'll have internet access. I do know that my 407 cell number will be useless on the 27th, so if anyone wants to get ahold of me. Now's the time. I don't know when I'll be able to get a phone card to turn the other phone back on. Or if I'll be in an area where my current phone will work, (MetroPCS) after I leave here. I'll try to hop on line now and again, to check email and see how things are going. I'd imagine that within the next week or two, depending on what happens, we could be out of communications for some time. But I have my old Mac lapper running now, so I should be able to at least check email and such now and again.
Thanks again to everyone that gave a little to help us out, I really do appreciate it. Hope to see you one way or another soon.

Back in action to some degree.
Posted 17 years agoWell, I had to sell my laptop a couple weeks ago, because I needed the money for bills and food. This was kinda' shooting myself in the foot, as I relied on that for work, but given the choice between eating, and having a laptop, I'm sure you can understand why I sold it.
Anyway, someone was extremely nice and donated to me some ram and a HDD to get my old decrepit Mac running again, so I had something to work on. But we couldn't find a way to get an OS on it. No one had a slot loading DVD drive for a Mac laying around, or an external DVD drive I could borrow.
So my boyfriend and I got creative, and rigged up something unusual to get the job done. *laughs* Video here.

Posted 17 years agoWell, it's official. We got notice from the apartment complex where I live, that we're going to be evicted. I'm not sure off hand weather or not we're going to be able to keep that from happening. I've already sold everything I had that was worth anything. And our vehicles are both down because they're in need of repair. So we have no way to get around. Making finding new jobs very difficult. I'm expecting us to be out of a home within the next 8 or 9 days.
I may be off line for a while, we'll have to see what happens. I've been trying to avoid asking for any kind of help, but with all that we've got going against us right now, I don't have any choice.

Somewhat desperate request.
Posted 17 years agoI've got a big problem here, and I'm hoping that someone may have what I need just laying around collecting dust. I've recently come apon rather hard times. and am in danger of losing my home. This has forced me to sell just about everything I own that is worth something. Most recently, the laptop that I use for work, and to do my photography on when I'm on a remote site. I know that sounds like a dumb thing to do, but it's the only thing I own that's worth anything, and we're that desperate for money. I'm likely going to be selling the computer I'm typing this journal on, and going back to my ancient 1.3 ghz machine again as well, but that's beside the point.
I need a laptop to work, I need one for when I go do shoots for people. I have a very decrepid old Mac here, 876mhz PowerbookG4. 12in. But the Hard drive and DVD rom drives are shot out of it. I could get it working if I had those things, so if anyone has a laptop hard disk, or the DVD rom drive out of an old Apple Powerbook, I could really use it. Or even an entire lapper, long as the parts I need are okay.

It's alright, I'm still here.
Posted 17 years agoWell, I figure I should come on here and say something, as lately I've been getting concerned emails, and messages from people, wondering if I'm alright. I just wanted to say that I'm still here, we're just going through a really rough time right now, so I haven't been able to spend as much time as I'd like to at a computer. I've been trying my damndest to keep a roof over our heads, that takes up a LOT of my time. That and I've been out of a vehicle for the better part of three weeks, due to it needing repairs. So I've been bicycling around. I like cycling, but it's slow, so I've been taking a lot more time to do things. Though, as you can see, I have been trying to find the time to come here and do at least a little something. I put up some of my AC '01 photos just the other day, and I've been meaning to get back to putting the highlights of my photos up on here as previously planned. I'll get there, it's just that right now, saving our butts has to come first.
Speaking of photos, I've been getting people asking if I'm going to be going to / shooting at Megaplex. I would absolutely love to do this. But as it stands right now, I just don't have the money. It's been three years since the last time I was at a con, so I'm definitely way over due. And I've been itching to get my camera out and put it to work agian though! If there was some way I could do it, I would definately do it. But it'd pretty much take the money for doing so falling in my lap. As well there'd have to be a place for me to at least curl up on the floor. And I don't feel it's too much of a stretch to say neither of those things are going to happen.
So to sum up, I'm still here, hopefully I'll be able to find the money somewhere to keep our apartment, and unless a miracle happens I unfortunately won't be making this con. With some luck though, you'll be seeing more of me on here though, and hopefully things will get better for us so I'll be able to make it out with the camera more soon.

Posted 17 years agoWell, contrary to popular belief, I wasn't at FWA this last weekend. I know some folks were thinking that, and I honestly wish I had been. But no.... The reason I've been kinda' quiet is that I've had another few things fail in my PC. one of my hard drives, and my memory shit the bed. so now my main PC is barely running. It's basically acting as an access point. And my Mac died a day later, so I'm temporarily down to one computer, a laptop.
As well, I've had a bunch of other things go on me. My truck is undrivable, my boyfriends truck ( which ironically, I drive 'cause he can't) is almost there. it's got a leaky fuel tank that's getting worse by the day (Orlando distroys cars, but at least they're fixing some of the roads.) and it's got other things wrong with it too, like the clutch threatening to go. they're 16 and 18 years old respectively, so yeah. Most of my equipment is old stuff, so I'm not shocked that it's all having issues. But it seems like right now EVERYTHING is having problems, and I just can't afford to fix them. So I'm patching things up and doing what I can. But like with my computer, it's a band-aid on a bazooka wound.
Thing is, work has been really slow, and I've been having to take up some of the weight from my boyfriend's truck being down. So I'm not making much money. I've made like $300 in the last 3 months... Suckness. . .
On that note, I could REALLY use the cash if anyone would like to donate a little, I'd be happy to shoot for you! I've been getting ready to offer this to most of my friends and also fellow furries. If you live in central Florida, or are willing to front me travel monies. I will shoot for donations right now! Make it worht my while, and I will come and shoot for you! Furry, non furry, portraits, whatever. My only request is that if I really like something, I may ask to use it in my portfolio. :)

Government Stimulus checks.
Posted 18 years agoI was prompted to think about this due to a discussion in 
betelguese's journal regarding the tax checks and some input that 
wezweasel added about it.
Well, we've all doubtless heard about the government plan to offerchecks for up to $1200 to individuals and families as an effort to spurthe economy into some kind of growth. But what you're NOT hearing isthat the money isn't just being given to us. It's being offered as ifit was, but is actually going to be coming out of our tax returns fornext year! In effect, the government is just offering a loan againstyour next tax return. But they're not TELLING anyone this. And the siteon CNN that had this information http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02.....lus/index.html has been removed! and replaced with this one, http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01.....omic.stimulus/ which makes no mention of the stimulus package funds coming out of next years taxes. A good explanation of this is here, http://biz.yahoo.com/brn/080212/24581.html?.v=1#7 but just in case it's taken down, I'll cut and paste it all the same.
What will the rebate mean to my 2008 taxes?
Will I owe taxes on my rebate amount next year? What if this year mysituation changes and that means my rebate amount should be less?
Formost filers, says Luscombe, this year's rebate will appear as a simplegift from the government. The rebate amounts are tax-free.
But filers will have to reconcile any money they receive this year when they file their 2008 returns.
"It harksback to the 2001 situation when we got the new 10 percent bracket andgot an advance check for that. Then on next return had to account forit," says Luscombe. "It's expected to be that way this time."
The2008tax forms should have a line for the new credit. When calculating taxesnext year, taxpayers will have to subtract what they got as a rebatecheck the previous summer.
"Some people might think that's unfair," says Luscombe, "but they got the money, and they got it early."
One thingtaxpayers won't have to worry about is giving back any excess if their2008 taxes show that the advance this year was actually more than theyshould have received.
"If it turns out that credit on your2008return is greater, you get to take that additional amount,"says Luscombe. "If it's lesser than what you got in 2007, you don't haveto refund that back to government." The law says the IRS can't recoverthe extra payment by reducing your 2008 refund or adding to your 2008taxbill.
In short, that means that your 2008 tax return willbe negative whatever you received in your economic stimulus, unless you would begetting back less in your next return, than you got, (it won't make youowe money, you just won't get anything back if you earn less than you'dget in this check.) So if you got a stimulus check for say $800, andyour next tax return was for $1200, you'd only get to keep $400 of itbecause you'll have to pay back what you're "borrowing" as part of thestimulus package. But if your return is only $600, you won't have topay the $200 difference because your return was lower than the stimuluscheck.

Who doesn't find being given our own money as a stimulus is all that cool

Well, we've all doubtless heard about the government plan to offerchecks for up to $1200 to individuals and families as an effort to spurthe economy into some kind of growth. But what you're NOT hearing isthat the money isn't just being given to us. It's being offered as ifit was, but is actually going to be coming out of our tax returns fornext year! In effect, the government is just offering a loan againstyour next tax return. But they're not TELLING anyone this. And the siteon CNN that had this information http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/02.....lus/index.html has been removed! and replaced with this one, http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/01.....omic.stimulus/ which makes no mention of the stimulus package funds coming out of next years taxes. What will the rebate mean to my 2008 taxes?
Will I owe taxes on my rebate amount next year? What if this year mysituation changes and that means my rebate amount should be less?
Formost filers, says Luscombe, this year's rebate will appear as a simplegift from the government. The rebate amounts are tax-free.
But filers will have to reconcile any money they receive this year when they file their 2008 returns.
"It harksback to the 2001 situation when we got the new 10 percent bracket andgot an advance check for that. Then on next return had to account forit," says Luscombe. "It's expected to be that way this time."
The2008tax forms should have a line for the new credit. When calculating taxesnext year, taxpayers will have to subtract what they got as a rebatecheck the previous summer.
"Some people might think that's unfair," says Luscombe, "but they got the money, and they got it early."
One thingtaxpayers won't have to worry about is giving back any excess if their2008 taxes show that the advance this year was actually more than theyshould have received.
"If it turns out that credit on your2008return is greater, you get to take that additional amount,"says Luscombe. "If it's lesser than what you got in 2007, you don't haveto refund that back to government." The law says the IRS can't recoverthe extra payment by reducing your 2008 refund or adding to your 2008taxbill.
In short, that means that your 2008 tax return willbe negative whatever you received in your economic stimulus, unless you would begetting back less in your next return, than you got, (it won't make youowe money, you just won't get anything back if you earn less than you'dget in this check.) So if you got a stimulus check for say $800, andyour next tax return was for $1200, you'd only get to keep $400 of itbecause you'll have to pay back what you're "borrowing" as part of thestimulus package. But if your return is only $600, you won't have topay the $200 difference because your return was lower than the stimuluscheck.

A lot of people have been commenting on my photos and stuff, which is very cool! Thanks for all the input! I've been a little late in getting to them, and not been posting much in the last few days though, as I've been revamping my systems here. I had a hard drive fail on my main PC, and have been reloading software on both.
But things are back together now, so you'll be seeing some fresh content, as well as my continuing to post more of my old con photos as soon as I get a little time. I've been pretty busy as well the last few days, so I'm a little behind and have to play catch up.
Most recently, I was at a rally against Scientology here in down town Orlando. I'll have a couple photos of that to put up as well.
Anyway, hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm hoping my foot heals up before I have to go out shooting again this coming weekend. Anyway, I'll be getting back on things so you'll see more of me again.

Ye Olden Days.
Posted 18 years agoSo I've been going through my old con pics and stuff putting up some of the more fun ones just for the sake of nostalgia, and it's been a total blast! This whole thing has been like a trip down memory lane for me. And I've just started on 2001, I've got 7 more years to go. ;)
It's already brought back so many memories from these old cons, really fun stuff. I miss going out to cons, I haven't had the chance to really go con hopping since 2001. *laughs* I can guarantee one thing though, any con I get to is going to get a shitload of photos shot at it. ;) If I'm lucky, I'd like to try and hit Megaplex down here when it happens in March, and from there not sure where I'm going. It depends largely on funds. I've got plenty of time, just need cash.
Anyone need some shooting done? ;)

Return of the fox.
Posted 18 years agoIt's been a while, I know. But I've been really tied up with things. (no, not THAT kind of tied up, but I could use it LOL) So I've been away from here for way too long. But I'm back, and hopefully I'll be able to get some content out there for y'all pretty soon. I've already started putting some of my latest photos up, and I'm going to be going through some of my older work, putting up some of the "highlight" photos from cons and parties past on here for everyone to enjoy. That and I'm hoping to get out and do more shooting in general.
I've also decided that I'm going to start offering some of my work for sale, as well as offer commissions where I'd go on location and shoot!. i'm still figuring out how I want to handle that, and just how far I could go, etc. But it's in the works. I fired off a bunch of new stuff from my recent trip to Elliott's Winter Carnival just last night, so that's a start. Bank of America can blow me
Posted 18 years agoWell, Bank of America has proved for the second time that they have tremendous ability to SUCK! This last week almost at the end of the month, my boyfriend got hit with a bunch of charges that were dated for 3 weeks ago! they're supposed to go through, but due to a bank blunder, (which even the phone rep spotted, but was unable to do anything about) they hit very late. the rep told us the best thing we could do was yank his money out before the rest of the charges hit (apparently, due to BOA's shuffling of debits and credits to arrange them largest to smallest, MORE charges were coming). so we did. Bank of America has stolen from us for the last time. I pulled my account last time, and now my boyfriend has pulled his.
I can't believe a class action suit or something hasn't been started against this bank! It's unbelievable the shit they get away with! And it seems like everyone that I talk to that's dealt with this bank, has a horror story of their own to relate about it. One word of warning for those of you who are thinking that their bank might be pulling the same shit, or looking for a bank. Ask if they reorder debits and credits from largest to smallest. and if they do, <b><i>AVOID THEM!!</i></b> Because that's the same software that Bank of America uses, and nothing that it does can be undone. They will fight you tooth and nail not to have to change it, even to the point that you'll drop them as a bank! I'm glad that the one rep we talked to on the phone this last time, was so candid and honest about how Bank of America works.

My creativity has started coming back as well. This is definitely a good thing. I've got a lot of things on my plate, but I'm going to start cranking on it so you should see more from me soon.

Posted 19 years agoWell, thanks to some over time, and being creative with spending. things are actually starting to go a little better for me. But that's also why you haven't seen a lot of stuff out of me last week, I've been working more hours, and I haven't had the time to devote to my photography and writing that I wanted to. But hopefully in a few weeks, I'll be able to put a little more time to fun stuff, and being creative.
Other than that, we're holding our own here at the hotel. Hopefully some time before the end of the year, or at least early next year, we'll be able to have a place of our own. Wish us luck on that one. :) Otherwise, I'm feeling better, still recovering from surgery, but now it's more an annoyance than a hardship. I'm stuck at that almost healed stage because I went back to work too early. But I didn't have a lot of choice there.

Leu Gardens.

It's something that I've done for some time, but untill recently, I've been so busy that I haven't had the chance to do any shooting. This last weekend however, I had a productive outing to Leu Gardens where I took a lot of pictures. I've put the best of those up here on FurAffinity for y'all to see.
I used to do a lot of shooting, and plan to again, so you're most likely going to see more of my work here in weeks to come.

Long time no see.
Posted 19 years agoYeah, I've been out of the scene for a while. In the time since I last put up anything, I've become homeless, and had to have a surgery. I"m pretty much over the surgery now, back to work part time as well, And slowly, getting back to taking care of the things that I've been neglecting all this time.
Including getting some writing in. And I've got a couple other things I'm going to start doing. I'm not going into that right now, but my list of things to do is growing, and I've got not only some old things I used to do that I want to get back into, but some new stuff that I want to give a shot.
Anyway, more to come.

Madness on my end
Posted 19 years agoWell, any of you that actually follow my BitchFests, or have talked to me about any of the other writing projects that I've mentioned wanting to do, have probably noticed that I've been a bit later than normal. That's because I've recently become homeless. I'm working on fixing this, but things are lible to get sporattic while I'm looking for a place to live. On a good note however, my boyfriend and I have found work, so that should help out a LOT. :) My time is going to be limited, and resources scarce, but I'm going to try and do what I can to keep things at least to some degree on track. If only for my own sanity.

Still trying to get on schedule with things.
Posted 19 years agoYou know, I try to get things done on time, but it's getting so I don't know if I should even try anymore. Well, not that I shouldn't try, but rather that I shouldn't push myself to a set schedule. News doesn't happen on a schedule, events don't either, so kicking my ass to try and get something done on a schedule just isn't working. I'm going to just be doing this when something comes along that's worth note. That'll still be pretty frequently, possibly more frequently, but it'll be a better thing I think. So BitchFest #12 is up, if you're reading this, enjoy. Not nessessarily furry, but I felt it was important.

Schedule difficulties.

I do try and keep these things on a fairly regular schedule, but things have just been hectic on my end of the pipe, so it's probably going to be a while before I'm able to get my BitchFest! coming out on time again. I've also been trying to get some other writing worked on, but that's slow going as well. Truth is with the way things have been going for me lately, I just haven't had time to get all the things done that I'd LIKE to. Sometimes I don't even have time to get the things done that I need to. But I'm trying, and hopefully it won't be too long before I get there. :)
