hi guys, antique here. I have been intending to write a real update on FA and will once things are less hectic over here, but for now I just have two pieces of bad news to drop off. 8(

☆ I haven’t been able to use the computer much lately due to some issues with my laptop overheating… and then I got a blue screen and windows would not load up. so my laptop is currently being worked on by a guy my dad knows, and from what I was told he's going to do everything he can to get my stuff off of it, though there's no guarantee that the files I need will all be retrievable. losing all of my personal files is damn crappy but I’m really tore up about my digital commissions: I’ve already put in 40-50 hours on a painting for frick and my commission for lexibutt was very close to being complete, as well as the lineart for my trade. U_U I feel absolutely awful, partly because I was so looking forward to school finally being out and being able to devote time to drawing again - and of course because these guys have already been so exceptionally patient. as it stands I have occasional access to the internet through a borrowed laptop, but I am not able to work on any digital art because my files are all on my fried computer. I don’t know for sure yet if any of my files can be pulled off the hard drive, or when my laptop will be repaired. I will let everyone know what is up when I find out and we'll go from there.

☆ saturnine will also not be around, because as of a few days ago he needed to stay with some family two hours away and therefore does not have access to his home computer or WIP files. the whole situation is quite personal and serious and is not under our control, so there is nothing we can do about our current separation (which aside from being away from his work just flat out sucks, since we haven't been apart from each other like this for longer than I can remember. I miss him! ;___; ) with any luck, he will be back home with me in a week or so and we can plan out what we're going to do from there, but until then we're both on our own without our personal computers.

I am very sorry for this. hopefully nine will be back home and my laptop will be repaired with my WIPs safe sooner rather than later, but for now we're not able to be around much/at all. take care everyone, and again my apologies for our sudden disappearance, things are very stressful right now.

so some of y'all hopefully remember our friend lee*lee, aficionado of all things pink and fellow artist who drew stuff with us back in the old days. as she occasionally does, she's been staying with us in california for the past few weeks. yay, right? unfortunately it hasn't been all fun this time, because she's here to take care of some important personal business which is seriously affecting her life right now and draining all of her savings. she needs to get back home to vegas asap, but she doesn't have the money left for gas to drive the ~12 hours it will take to get there. backstory aside, what this means is: lee*lee aka thecandybutcher is here on FA and taking a few commissions!

as a little aside: both of us have been scarce online lately due to a combination of lee*lee staying with us, star-mine visiting, finals, and both of our chronic health issues. things will be a lot less stressful after next week when college gets out and our house calms down, though. we are really sorry for the delays our recent unintentional absence has caused, and we will be getting in touch with people again as soon as we can.

well apparently i have some sort of viral bronchitis. woke up the other night completely unable to breathe, eat, do anything so i went to the ER. i'm beyond words at how ill i am so yeah.. just coughing shit up every five seconds and exausted and they said i need to just rest and take my codiene cough syrup and see my dr so yeah.

talk about irony. a little over a week ago we switched from cigarettes to those "ecigs"/vaporizers - which are totally amazing by the way i would recommend them to anyone and EVERYONE omfg candy watermelon with nicotine bitch. try to do something a little bit better for myself and end up sicker than i've been in at least 6 years, probably a lot more. ugh.

so if i don't respond anytime soon that's why. im so so sorry my health has been kicking my ass for over the past year, i'll be honest i just wanna break down and cry. i will try to doodle and send out some notes etc if i am able, i just took my first real dose of cough syrup and some of my pain pills so we'll have to see.

hey guys just dropping in so you know i’m still alive. i’ve been trying really hard to get back to art and finish up all this way overdue stuff, just things arent going so well… seriously, something stupid always happens i swear. i’ll be completely fine and the tablet starts acting up, or i go to sit down and get as comfortable as i can and knock over my huge full coffee all over the tablet, keyboard, etc.. the list goes on. to make matters worse i’m legit stressed out for so many different reasons i can’t even list them, and my health hasn’t gotten any better; i’m actually extremely ill and vomiting today, which has become a rather regular and random occurrence. :(

i made my big end of the year list of commissions and am currently figuring out the best approach to finish it all the most efficient way, while working on almost finished/smaller pieces when i’m able. if you’re waiting on notes from me i’ll get back to you as soon as soon as i can.

i’ve said it before but it’s been quite awhile so i’ll throw this out here again: if anyone would like to either switch their commission(s) to real media, or commission me for some real media pieces (so i can at least be filling my time with something productive), PLEASE let me know! it’s a lot easier and much less painful for me to be able to work wherever i want, instead of having to sit here in front of this screen feeling miserable and popping pills constantly :(. if anyone does want to do this rates wont change and if you want to commish me we can discuss it but they’re generally the same price (and i wont even lie, we are extremely broke right now and could really, really use the money. we both need new tablets, again, so it isnt helping stuff get done at all ugh. antique should be posting about her commissions she mentioned from her last uploaded piece soon.)

okay, so. i've been getting numerous IMs for the past few months from random people, and most recently friends requests. i add the requests to my list immediately, but i have no flippin clue who anyone is. so here's two things to think about and i would REALLY appreciate, since i would love to chat with you guys!

1: if someone IMs me just saying "hello", i will not answer you. it's nothing personal, in quite fact the opposite. i get so many random people trying to cyber me or wtf ever that i've completely stopped replying to those. it's a double edged sword because about half the time i feel bad just deleting the message as i get the feeling that there's a 50/50 chance it's someone who really does want to chat! so please, if you're wanting to chat, PLEASE simply introduce yourself. and then sometimes you wake up and there's a new tablet (and a pack of cigarettes, and a book for school) sitting downstairs. okay.

it's this one (rather than the other one of the same size i was looking at), monoprice 10x6 with all the buttons and crap on the side which i'm not terribly fond of tbh since .. it basically has all the same buttons on the top 9_9 but i'm not exactly complaining either. i'll admit zoom buttons are pretty great since we both use sai.
after fighting with our stupid cd drive refusing to open for like 15 minutes, i got it all set up and have been playing around with it. it works just fine, it's pretty damn nice even. it looks sturdy (and pretty :p ), pressure sensitivity is great, pen is fine.. i havent programmed the buttons yet but i'm sure they'll come in handy when i get use to actually having hotkeys.
i'd even like to get another at some point for antique to use, but i think her parents are trying to pawn it off as her birthday present (lol. her birthday is on sunday btw D; JUST SAYIN' ) -- so i told her she can have the money i would have spent on it to buy ponies and crap. don't look at me like that, i already bought her the comic con derpy hooves/ditzy/wth ever you want to call her as an early present. im a good boyfriend and i know the key to a girl's heart is brightly colored pony toys. our room is god damn overrun with them. >:(

sorry i haven't been around much, theres been a lot of stressful & shitty things going on this past month or so but it'd rather keep it private seriously you dont even want to know... lol frick says you can blame her, she convinced me to get a second life account and my life has been all downhill from there hahah. here is where i'd hella force you to check out gummi and mochi chillin like gangsters, but really all the cute snaps i took of them look like crap. at least gummi does, frick is a master and mochi looks like a beautiful unicorn. i need to fix her face. a lot. and pretty much everything else about her. ugh.

no but actually, i'm not writing this to ramble on about second life and my fail ass noob attempts at modding shit, hurr durr. one of our tablets just crapped out completely.. it's our 6 x 8 graphire that antique has had forever and, of course, the one i've come to use all the time. :| go figure. the cord has been slowly dying since the middle of july, it got these random little breaks/cuts in it, so i cobbled it back together like a ghetto master with electrical tape and it was working pretty much fine. then a couple days ago i got really inspired to idk DRAW and FINISH THINGS (HOLY CRAP !!!), moved it the wrong way or something else really dumb and nonsensical, and it decided to shut off forever. it's dead.. so.. yeah. great. freaking awesome.

i guess we need to get a new tablet. going to fix it asap but i'm sure i'll be waiting around on that for a little bit. i'm don't think i'll ever be sold on bamboos and we dont really have $300 or some BS to drop on an intuos like, now or ever... BUT, somebody mentioned these recently and after looking around they actually seem pretty damn decent, so i was wondering: anybody have thoughts on/experience with these? monoprice 10x6 tablets. battery pens will always weird me out but after looking at the reviews it seems pretty great, i mean come on for $60. and there was a review where the person had literally the same problem as me, got that one, then exploded into rainbows and everything was great and there was no pain. so fate maybe? idk. help would be appreciated, neither of us have had to look around for tablets for a long time :/

just wanted to let everyone know i haven't forgotten or anything & wanted to let you know whats up. i've seen some people talking about those monoprice's and they seem great.. but i've never relly worked with anything that wasn't wacom and it almost seems too good to be true despite the reviews ive checked out, so if anyone has any experience or other suggestions please feel free to speak up. <3

I'm hoping since my birthday is at the end of the month I can ask for some help to buy a monoprice tablet and everything will be good.

just wanted to give a quick update that I have a new laptop now!
thank you guys who offered suggestions on our last entry... it ended up not being worth it to fix the screen and the other issues with our old laptop so we ended up getting all the files off the old one and then replacing it. thank goodness my family had already been considering buying me a replacement for college work and that my father was able to find a good deal on a new one so quickly. my new laptop has almost double the space of the old one and better RAM so I don't have to worry about just opening photoshop being too much for it, and the screen doesn't wash out colors like our old one did. we've spent the last day downloading everything I need back onto it and making sure all my files made it over safely, so aside from some little things saturnine can send me later I'm all set up on here and ready to get back into working on commissions and trades. so, no more sharing one computer means it's business as usual again in regards to work and correspondence.

thank you again everyone for being so understanding of our situation right now. we're both still not feeling so great so things might be a bit slower than usual until we can get the proper paperwork taken care of in regards to our terrible treatment by the EDC staff, but just having a laptop back is a huge relief and will really help us with everything (art related and not) right now.

antique & saturnine go on vacation: the aftermath.

hey everyone, this is saturnine.
well, we're back from our vacation to vegas / EDC. seriously, we could both write a full novel about this weekend but just thinking about the larger portion of it makes us both miserable so i'll keep it short. i know i at least was hoping to come back so refreshed and inspired but basically, while we did have some AMAZING times and are trying to focus on it, a lot of it was so terrible and stressful it's extremely hard :( , and then things started spiraling into an awful trip from hell all leading up to one of if not THE most awful experiences we've ever had in our entire lives. everything was going great and then slowly started getting worse until it was just one awful thing after another even up to the point that our flight home was delayed, we're sore all over and can barely talk (and let me tell you it's not from dancing and having a great time), just everything ffs ugh. may post some details at a later time because it was quite frankly fucked up what happened at times and we really feel people need to know about these things because they were not right and flat out illegal at points. i just... can't even.

so, onto important matters - THIS AFFECTS BOTH OF US, SO PLEASE READ:

our laptop broke on the last day we were there.
neither of us are quite sure how it happened but i believe it got flipped off the bed while we were packing (you know, somewhere in between a ton of our medication being stolen and a million other things woo!) and the screen cracked. luckily i believe the hard drive is still functioning fine, but it's completely useless at this point so we're in a really tight spot.
it's slightly older so i knew its time was coming soon but damn. this is really, really bad. we do have a regular PC obviously, but antique pretty much exclusively used the laptop because it's incredibly hard for her - for both of us, really - to sit in front of this PC for hours on hours on end... so all of her current art, commissions, trades, personal work, ref files etc are on there. i'm almost positive we can have someone get them off of there for us, but i don't know when that will be either. yeah. this is a pretty big deal for her as far as owed work goes.

we're not sure when we can get it replaced. i'm working to borrow one from a family member until then, but we're not sure how well it would even work as far as art goes. we may be able to at least borrow an ipad from antique's family, to help keep everyone updated and not totally loose our sanity since having only one computer is the worst possible thing especially regarding our commissions right now... so hopefully we can at least work with that until then.

frick and darkmoon, i think you two are the only ones with current commissions open with antique, so if you have any questions just ask; you know where to reach us <3.


as far as MY/SATURNINE COMMISSIONS GO:
i'm still going to be attempting to work on everything to get it done ASAP and keeping you all updated as usual. i'll probably be starting back tomorrow since we're both physical and emotional WRECKS at the moment and will most likely go straight back to bed after this post. (i fell asleep in the middle of writing it, even.)

here's the deal, for anyone interested, PLEASE READ THIS:
i finally found some awesome paper we had laying around that inks/colors wonderfully, so i have a cute thing of some little real media headshots i did (or tried to finish in all of our rushing around, at least) before we took off for vegas that i'm going to touch up and scan like, early tomorrow or something.

surprisingly for not using marker&pens in a LONG time, they came out really cute, and they were WAY faster to do than my digital comms.

given our current computer situation, i figured i'd throw out this offer to ANYONE WITH A CURRENT COMMISSION OPEN WITH ME(SATURNINE); if you would like to switch your comm over to REAL MEDIA INSTEAD OF DIGITAL, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!! as i said i'll be posting the picture i did so you can use it as an example. this is only an option i'm opening up; obviously i can't take on any more work at the moment considering how much i need to get done, which freaking sucks cause god knows we could use it, but i know better than to dig that grave.
i'm doing this to free up computer time and it seems i'll be able to get them cranked out way faster. especially if you have a headshot due, but i'll most likely be able to do this with ANY open comm. this includes if it's already marked as sketched/inked or have even started on coloring. if it's a larger piece really close to being finished, then unfortunately i probably can't offer it to you as i'll be finishing those up soon ;_; sorry. (just ask even if you fall into that category, it never hurts to ask <3)

so there it is. i swear there were times where we thought it couldn't get any worse, but this is turning out to be THE year from hell for us and it just keeps fucking going, not even just us but for our good friends.. it's awful. i can't say it enough, thank you so much for being so patient and kind, we both work really hard to get everything finished up as quick as possible and want to keep you updated. we're trying to keep our chins up about everything.

hey everyone, this is antique~

I wanted to give a heads up that I’ll be opening for commission stuff soon, probably within the week. I’m almost done with some real media faux badge examples (pencil “inks” with some colored pen details, cut out and pasted onto patterned paper similar to the other real media pictures I’ve uploaded) so I’ll be offering those as well as digital flat color (+ texture and some shaded details) full and partial body images a little later. I will only have a small amount of slots open for each, probably 2-3 badges and 1 full body + 1 bust/partial digital image. I apologize for the limited slots, but it is really important to me to make sure I only take on as much work as I can confidently handle at once. I’ll have more details on the real media stuff very soon, I’ve got a weekend free from schoolwork (for once!) so I’m going to try and be as productive as I can. ;p

saturnine would also like to sincerely apologize for the delay with his headshot commissions; the turn around for them was originally meant to be a few weeks for the first 5 people, but unfortunately he has been having health issues which have slowed down the progress on them. we don’t want to go into too much personal detail, but he is currently in the process of being tested to get a diagnosis for his chronic pain, and may end up with a similar (or the same) chronic pain condition that I have. :/ our doctor is also working with him to find appropriate treatment and medication which can be quite a draining experience, so he hasn’t been feeling physically well enough to be working through them at the rate he wanted/planned to. we both really appreciate everyone’s patience with them, and if you’re curious about how the ones he has finished so far have been turning out you can check them out at our DA (and there are links to the finished ones on our queue page as well).

yes, this is indeed "kaz" and "kur", or rather ~the artists formerly known as~ haha... but we'll get to that in a minute.

remember back in the days of bright sparkly colors, flashy outfits, tons of accessories, and silly poses? super cute, brightly colored anthros that looked more like stuffed toys and my little ponies? well, we do, too. even though it's been well over 8 years since then, we still like to reminisce sometimes and look back and enjoy the art we used to make for what it was, just a fun and nonsensical way we expressed ourselves and the things & people we loved when we were growing up. we've drawn silly old school styled versions of our old characters for nostalgia's sake every so often, but recently we've been thinking about it a lot more and decided it might be neat to share this kind of art with everyone again, since we know a lot of other people still remember it and enjoy it for what it was, too. not to mention sometimes it's nice to just let loose and draw cute sparkly fun things again. : D

while we don't know how actively we'll be a part of the community again, it's nice to touch back on our roots and have a little fun, and this will be the place for that. this account will be used for some pictures of our old characters redrawn/remade for fun, examples and finished commissions and trades, and a few of our old favorite if not a little bit embarrassing drawings from way back in the day (you can check 'em out in the scraps; we might upload more here and there as we find things.) look out for possible guest art appearances from a couple of our besties, lee*lee and sebastian [some of you may remember him as "moose" ; ) ] around as well.

we have both been continuing to actively draw since we stopped doing the anthro thing in 2005 and uploading in 2007, but our current art is very very different from this style and very personal to us, so we haven't been/won't be posting it anywhere at this time. we are both pretty private and introverted people by nature and would prefer to have our current art/lives/etc separate from this account, and would really appreciate it if people would be respectful of that.

getting back to our names, we haven't gone by "kaz" and "kur" since back then either... so although it's probably confusing, we've both changed a *lot* and don't identify with those names at all anymore, and honestly would like to just leave all of the nasty parts attached to those names behind once and for all. so, we would really appreciate your understanding in not calling us by them. we also aren't comfortable using our real names here, so for now you can call us by the names of the persona characters we are using for this account, antique ("kaz") and saturnine ("kur"). (we'll get some pics of them up soon, promise!) i hope the joint account isn't to confusing, but since we still live together it shouldn't be too hard if you would like to get a hold of either one of us, and we'll do our best to sig things to make sure you know who you're talking to, haha.

on a similar note, i know way back in the old days a lot of crazy shit went down, both good and bad. it was a really hard time in our lives on top of the usual growing up teen angst drama; we've since made peace with it and moved on from everything, and we hope that you guys have too... and that you will be able to see this for what it is, a tribute to nostalgia and the fun parts of the past, and hopefully be able to enjoy it with us again. we would like to put down our swords along with everyone, let bygones be bygones, not be serious about anything and have a blast with it all again. that's really what it was all about, wasn't it?
