Wolfy life updates (Anthrocon, moving, commission schedule)
General | Posted 6 years agoHey y’all, it’s been a minute! Sorry that I’ve been away from FA other than a few comments here and there. I want to post a quick journal to let folks know what’s going on.
My new job is going great, but involved in that was a period of about six weeks where I was working massive major overtime. Like, “leaving work at 10 pm is a rare luxury” type overtime. It was challenging, and not great for my mental health, but now that I’m through the rest of the summer will be a relative breeze.
First, I’ll be heading to Colorado on vacation this Friday, staying there until Wednesday! I’m super excited to get out there, I know it’s absolutely beautiful and so much to do. I’ll be in Colorado Springs Fri-Sun and Denver Sun-Wed, if any CO furries want to meet up please note me!
Next, my lease ends in three weeks, and I’m moving in July. While that’ll be a little annoying - there’s a two-week gap between the end of my current lease and the start of my new one - it also means I’ll be sleeping on Adrion’s couch for a few weeks, and my new apartment is awesome. Beautiful spacious place that’s a five minute walk to a movie theater and my gym... and a Sonic with half-priced shakes. Bye bye waistline, it was fun knowing you.
Because this next month is going to be busy as all hell, I’m going to put a pause on commissions for now. My next opening will probably be early-mid July, just so I don’t leave anyone hanging while I’m in flux with limited ability to write. If anyone is willing to wait, and wants to throw me a little vacation money, note me and we can work something out. Otherwise, slots will open in early July.
One benefit of the move’s timing, though: I’m going to Anthrocon because of it! Badger is going, and if I’m sleeping on his couch, I’m going with him! We’ll be at the Marriott with another friend Thursday-Sunday. Looking forward to meeting folks and having fun!
That should be about it for now. Gonna be a fun, busy summer!

Just ended my monthlong stretch of 14-hour work days but it kicked my ass really hard so I’m trying to recuperate so I can keep my writing high-quality. Not there yet, so in the meantime, AMA!

General | Posted 6 years agoSo, uh, yeah, it's been a minute since I've taken commissions. I thought my PayPal was broken. It... I could have been using it this whole time. Anyway, if you're looking for a story from me, now's your chance.
Since I haven't opened commissions since January 3, it might not be fair to take commissions first-come first-serve, and while I appreciate repeat customers, it might not be fair to recent followers if my slots are taken up by return buyers (though I love and cherish you regardless). I might also be overestimating demand out of narcissism, but regardless, I want to try something new for this commission period.
Anyway, I'm opening commissions starting tonight from April 15, whenever this journal goes up EST, to April 18 at 6 p.m. EST. During this time, I'll be accepting pitches, and on Thursday night, I'll be contacting commissioners to let them know which ones I'm going to accept or reject. Please do not take it personally if your pitch is turned down, you'll get another chance to commission me in the future! And please don't hesitate to send a pitch if you're interested, I promise I don't bite!
As of today, April 15 2019, I'm raising my prices to $12.50 per 1,000 words. I'm accepting pitches with no limit on length, they can be as short or long as you'd like. Easy guideline is every 2,000 words is $25 and every 4,000 words is $50 and onward from there.
I'd like prospective commissioners to provide a short form with the following information:
Name/FA name
Length of story (For reference, 1,000 words = about 1.75 pages and my most recent long-form story was 9,000 words and just over 16 pages)
Intended characters and descriptions and/or links to character references
Intended plot - can be detailed or roughly sketched out
Desired fetishes and types of growth/gain/etc.
Intended content rating
I'm accepting pitches using my characters, though I will use discretion in what situations I do and don't put them in. I might ask to change it a little. You can also make pitches using settings like Zaftig City if desired.

Quick update and questions on commissions/story auctions
General | Posted 6 years agoMy plans for now involve a lot of moving parts due to job and general business.
My first priority is to finish Zaftig City, I mapped out a storyline that will allow me to finish the story in two more chapters, expect that in the next week.
After that, I’ll be looking to continue/finish Charitable Corpulence, primarily to prevent what I did with ZC. I don’t want to leave it open-ended for months/years, especially as people enjoy it.
Third, I’m getting to a place where I’m closer to reopening commissions... with two problems. The first is a self-own, where I opened a business PayPal account to avoid commissions using my real name. That worked up until PayPal forced me to click on a button for a credit card application, which I did not want, then audited my account due to that forced click and found my information was not accurate, preventing me from being able to hold a PayPal balance. I need to figure that out before I can move forward.
The second one - and I can understand this will be a turn-off for some people - is that my new job drastically cuts down on my free time. At my old one, when I was underpaid, I had a lot of free time, working pretty much exactly 40 hours per week. With an increased commute, a consistent work schedule and my desire to be a good employee, I’ve lost something like 10 hours a week of free time from that, time I usually use for writing. I’m making more, but it’s not enough where commissions wouldn’t help me make ends meet. The problem is that my decreased free time makes using that free time more difficult, and therefore it’s worth more to me at this time. Upon continuing commissions, I would likely need to increase my prices again, likely to $15 per 1,000 words (which is still below many other writers’ market rates). Please let me know if I’m being unreasonable with that line of thinking.
I’m also considering story auctions instead of commission periods, where I would mock up an idea for a story and auction it to bidders. I have two or three ideas using past concepts, such as “your fursona in Zaftig City” or “your fursona can fatten JT/Gemie,” but before I pursue that option, I want to know if it would be viable. I would start bidding below my usual market rate with no immediate AB to allow for a natural auction. By writing a concept I am directly involved in, I believe the quality of the writing could improve.
What do you think? I am interested to hear your feedback. I do try to keep my writing high quality to meet my audience’s expectations.
