Cures for Insomnia?
Posted 11 years agoNot sure what's up, but I have always been a champion sleeper until just recently!
The past week or so, I have been virtually unable to sleep AT ALL.
Even after days in a row with only 2-3 hours of sleep, each.
IT IS TORTUROUS AND IT NEEDS TO ENNNDDD
-- So, I wondered if you fine folk might know any good cures for insomnia?
OR, SHOULD I JUST SEE A DOCTOR? 8V

BUT I AM SO TIRED I JUST *SOB*

AND ESPECIALLY
WHEN THE LIST OF HYBRID SPECIES
INCLUDES IN AN ENTIRELY MADE-UP SPECIES
LIKE
Why hybridize a wolf/cat/dog/red panda/fox/leopard/bat/otter/fennec if the character is literally just a tan cat with non-retractable claws, spots, and a striped tail.
No wings. No big ears. No pointed tail. No plantigrade or backward feet. Just a cat with certain markings.
At that point, where does the bat and otter even come in? Like, WHY EVEN PUT THEM ON THE LIST.
And then if you toss "fairy wolf" into the mix then it's like WHAT?? WHAT IS A FAIRY WOLF? WHAT DEFINES THAT?? //WHY DO THE OTHER SPECIES EVEN NEED TO BE THERE IF LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE FEATURE LISTED CAN BE NATURAL TO A SPECIES THAT IS FICTIONAL IN ITS ENTIRETY??//
I'll tell you why.
To make the creator feel special
But slapping different labels on a design does NOT make it creative
In fact, the LESS hybrids you try to throw in to justify your creation, the MORE CREATIVE IT GENERALLY SEEMS
Don't get me wrong-- making hybrids, integrated-species, species-inspired designs, etc. are all well and good! I love hybrid critters as much as normal critters!
But there's still ways to do it right/wrong, just like with normal characters.
And throwing in many-species hybrids is how you ruin any good design.
- If your character is a canine with slightly large ears, it doesn't HAVE to be part fennec.
- If your character has a striped tail, it doesn't HAVE to be part lemur, red panda, etc.
- If your character has snaggle-teeth, it doesn't HAVE to be part bat, sabertooth, etc.
- If your character has a big nose, it doesn't HAVE to be part otter, ferret, etc.
because SPECIES HAVE NATURAL DIFFERENCES AND DIVERSITY
As long as it isn't DRASTIC (i.e. Obviously gargantuan, fennec-like ears) or UNNATURAL (i.e. Paws/pawpads and/or movable ears on a lemur) then you don't HAVE to throw in a different species to explain it.
So please just
Be creative naturally
Because trying to force creativity with unnecessary labels
Makes your designs significantly weaker
(Plus causes you to lose respect, and kinda look like a tool, just saying.)

(ALSO THIS JOURNAL IS IGNORING THE FACT THAT I CURRENTLY LACK SCANNER ACCESS SO CAN'T UPLOAD, ANYWAY)
Now that art is my job, I just like-...
Don't think about it as much?
I get home from work and just want to eat food and hang out with friends.
Drawing and showing people art is just the LAST THING ON MY MIND
Commercial, "professional" art is a pretty lousy job most days, honestly.
Don't get me wrong-- I love making the designs! Even posters, which I was never very enthused about before, are something I can sincerely enjoy working on, now!
And I love a lot of my coworkers, bosses, clients, etc.!
Yet, it's a job where you're just...
Sitting there, doing art, all primarily for people who have no TRUE respect or appreciation for art.
They like to ACT like they do -- the many collegiate hipsters LOVE to pretend like they understand what art is, and what being an artist is really like.
But they don't.
I have had my designs used by organizations to enter contests and, after my designs won, I realized that they got an award for THEIR ORG for "best design" or w/e, so they can display it on their walls
-- With absolutely NO credit or even a REFERENCE to the to the person who created the original image, and NOT EVEN SO MUCH AS A THUMBNAIL, NAME OR MENTION OF WHAT THAT WINNING DESIGN WAS.
So there's literally nothing saying what artist or design was worthy of a prize-- just a pretty plaque that the people who did the event get to display, even though (in my particular case) the designs created were 100% MY OWN IDEA.
They gave me the TITLE of the event, and I created the entire poster concept, 0 help from them -- so they can't even claim "well they just brought my idea to life" because IT WAS MY IDEA IN ITS ENTIRETY. 8I
Then they have the gall to ask me to enter even bigger contests to create a company's emblem, right?
Not only would I not get paid for this one, but the company in question will also:
- Re-draw the artist's image after they submit it
- Give absolutely no credit or ties to the person(s) who designed it
- Give no compensation (cash, prize, or otherwise) to the artist submitting their entry
- BUT YOUR EMPLOYER GETS A FRAMED AWARD, THANK-YOU, PRIZE, AND GETS A PRIVATE CONCERT COURTESY OF THE COMPANY!
AND THEY TOLD ME IT'D BE AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY FOR ME, BECAUSE IT'LL LOOK GREAT ON MY RESUME!!
-- Even though, y'know, I get no credit for the design and it gets re-drawn, so I can't really use it on my resume.

From graphic design, to character design, to animation, and more.
IT IS INFURIATING

That's why I don't draw much
And why commissions are taking me so dang long
And why I feel like I shouldn't upload things, even when you guys say I should
Because art has the immediate impression of being a stressor, rather than something I enjoy
So when I go to work on commissions, I feel like it's going to be really difficult and then it'll never be good enough for you guys?

It'd be awesome if I could just do commissions for a living, y'know?
I'd must rather work for people who will enjoy, use, and appreciate the pieces I put my heart and soul into.

Posted 12 years agoNOBODY IS SURPRISED THAT THIS IS OVER A WEEK LATE okay here we go
MFF was pretty awesome!!
I took my friend, who knew nothing of furries other than the CSI episode, so she came expecting a bunch of creepers banging in animal costumes... and she got, unfortunately, as someone showed her to the rubber room (SERIOUSLY? WOW)... BUT OTHERWISE SHE LIKED IT!
It took us 3+ hours to get from the train station to the hotel, which was lame.
But my first sight upon arriving was Telephone, so I guess that's chill!
I'm super glad we were able to find roomies to stay with at the main hotel!!

Though, we quickly realized how chaotic it can be in a room with so many peeps! I've always stayed in smaller rooms, so it was pretty different. Not sure if it was different in a bad or good way, but hey, it was still a rad experience!
Met a lot of other awesome people -- MOST OF WHICH I ALSO DON'T KNOW THE FAs OF, WOW, I AM A FAILURE.
BUT I ALSO SAW PROBABLY MY FAVORITE CON-GOERS:
Spazzticglitch AND COMPANY!!!
LIKE, HOT DAMN, DO I LOVE THESE PEOPLE <333
and if we don't all hang out one of these days I am going to LEGIT LOSE MY SHIT
I spent most of this con in the Artist's Alley, because it was pretty dang rad in there! Lots of fun people, get to sit and hang out-- WHAT'S NOT TO LIKE?
The rest of the time I just popped in on the raves, suited every so-often, aaaaand rolled around being hungry.
OH, but I got Indian food the last day, which was TOPS!
(Not as good as the Indian restaurant here, but whatevs! IT WAS STILL GOOD!)
PLUS I ran into some other awesome folks I know from around here!!

Oh, and on the note of conventions...
MFF WILL BE MY LAST CONVENTION OF THE YEAR (unless I miraculously get a ride to FangCon, which isn't seeming likely)
I've really gone to a lot, this year, which was ENTIRELY DUE TO A LOT OF AWESOME PEOPLE MAKING TONS OF SEEMINGLY-IMPOSSIBLE DREAMS COME TRUE.
So, in appreciation for all that kindness and effort (and a desire not to fail college), I'm just going to chill and focus on work for a while!

Holding and petting her WOULD be fantastic
Except she does the whole cute "bread kneading" thing that, WHILE LOVABLE, AND IT MAKES ME HAPPY THAT SHE'S ENJOYING ME ENOUGH TO EXPRESS HER APPRECIATION...
.... It's also EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL WHEN THE "DOUGH" BEING KNEADED HAPPENS TO BE THE INNER CALF OF MY FOLDED LEGS.

Declawing makes me feel bad, yet so does this.

IT'S COMING UP SOON, MAN!
OCTOBER 3-6th, 2013 in WICHITA, KS!!
Don't let the location, long name, or the first-year-con-thing fool you-- the people in charge of this con are FUCKING FANTASTIC, and seriously have this thing set up to be one wicked experience!
CPFM (their camping con) is a small event, yet is EASILY one of the best conventions (furry, anime, or otherwise) I've ever been to.
CPFC will be all that and MORE, dudes!
Their sound/light setup ALONE is some of the best I've seen, so you can bet the dances are gonna be something to remember!
It's in the heart of downtown Wichita, which has some surprisingly interesting scenery, LOTS of beautiful places downtown to walk to, is chill and safe to explore-- PLUS, hotels and restaurants fucking EVERYWHERE, and lots of 24-hour places nearby... unlike SOME CITIES *PITTSBURGH COUGH SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK THE CITY DIES AT 6PM* (I MEAN THE CITY WAS REALLY COOL BUT DUDE SOMETIMES I NEED AN EMERGENCY 3AM QUESADILLA)
Southwest just opened a port to Wichita, so you can find cheap flights with them.
Allegiant Air also offers super great prices, if you're coming from the southwest!

Don't let the location, long name, or the first-year-con-thing fool you-- the people in charge of this con are FUCKING FANTASTIC, and seriously have this thing set up to be one wicked experience!
CPFM (their camping con) is a small event, yet is EASILY one of the best conventions (furry, anime, or otherwise) I've ever been to.
CPFC will be all that and MORE, dudes!
Their sound/light setup ALONE is some of the best I've seen, so you can bet the dances are gonna be something to remember!
It's in the heart of downtown Wichita, which has some surprisingly interesting scenery, LOTS of beautiful places downtown to walk to, is chill and safe to explore-- PLUS, hotels and restaurants fucking EVERYWHERE, and lots of 24-hour places nearby... unlike SOME CITIES *PITTSBURGH COUGH SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK THE CITY DIES AT 6PM* (I MEAN THE CITY WAS REALLY COOL BUT DUDE SOMETIMES I NEED AN EMERGENCY 3AM QUESADILLA)
Southwest just opened a port to Wichita, so you can find cheap flights with them.
Allegiant Air also offers super great prices, if you're coming from the southwest!

SUPER LATE CPFM AFTERMATH JOURNAL
Posted 12 years agoWELL, this is kind of depressing.
I'd typed up a HUGE journal full of individual thank-yous to pretty much everyone who showed up for CPFM, with stories and details of how you all impacted me and influenced how fantastic that little furmeet was for me...
I wasn't able to complete it all at once, due to the whole HAVING ONLY 1 WEEK TO PACK MY ENTIRE HOUSE AND MOVE OUT thing, so I just saved it and was going to continue it later.
Two weeks later and, now that all the psychotic activities have died down and I have had my first real opportunity to get on the computer...
I turn it on, and it had apparently restarted itself.
Okay, no big deal.
Until, y'know.
I realize that it had undone everything I saved from the last day I used my computer.
SO I GUESS THAT LONG JOURNAL IS JUST GONE AND I HAVE NO WAY TO RECOVER IT
AND, AT THIS POINT, I JUST FEEL LIKE I NEED TO POST A JOURNAL ASAP SO PEOPLE KNOW I DIDN'T JUST FORGET? 8'D
CPFM WAS JUST AS AMAZING AS IT WAS LAST YEAR;
AS WELL, CPFM RETAINS ITS STATUS AS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE FURRY CONS I HAVE ATTENDED
If you're ever questioning whether or not CPFM is worthwhile, considering it's a smaller event and is thought to be a "meet" rather than a full "con"...
STOP QUESTIONING.
It is absolutely worth it, man.
There may not be many panels, but... honestly? Who goes to a furry con for panels, anyway? Isn't the point of furries about the community more than anything, anyway? :V
AND, TRUST ME, THIS COMMUNITY IS ONE WORTH BEING A PART OF.
I had so much fun hanging out with everyone, and there were too many memorable occurrences to list without literally just LISTING EVERY MINUTE OF THE WEEKEND. HURR.
Sadly, I lost my voice the second day, which SUUUUUUCCCCCKED, but certainly didn't stop me from having an awesome time!!
(Though, it DID stop me from packing my house during the following week, as I ended up getting my throat infected and having to go to the doctor to get on a course of antibiotics. LOL WHOOPS.)
Even without my voice, though, you guys made it an awesome experience!
Not only that, but it was easily the most fun I've had as Guest of Honor at a con!
PAST TIMES, IT'S LIKE... PEOPLE ARE TERRIFIED TO TALK TO ME.

So the fact that I still got to spend time with EVERYONE and share so many great times was just awesome!!

IN ANOTHER BRIEF CON REPORT:
I managed to make it out to A-Kon, last weekend!!
Spent most of it with, 
, 
, and other pals who don't have FAs!
I also met up with some awesome other furs, but I don't happen to know their usernames! :C
Thing is, though...
It was literally the WORST A-KON I'VE EVER ATTENDED
Just. WOW
I HAD A PRETTY MISERABLE TIME
The new hotel is absolute garbage, and I SERIOUSLY HOPE THEY FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO, BECAUSE OMG. IT WAS AWFUL. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.
That place was NOT bigger than the Sheraton. :I Maybe longer, but there was WAY less total area, because there were SO FEW FLOORS BEING UTILIZED.
I MEAN, THINK ABOUT IT.
The Sheraton consisted of THREE HUGE buildings, all with multiple floors that were ALL in use. I mean, there was an ENTIRE MALL for people to spread out in!!
Now, there's pretty much just one convention center.
I mean, don't get me wrong-- the extra open space made it easier for people to spread out for photo opps, etc.! Which was definitely awesome! But, aside from that, it was a HORRIBLE setup for lines.
A-KON ALWAYS HAS BAD LINES, but the horrid arrangements this year really made the line-situation spiral out of control. 8v 5+ HOURS IN THE REGISTRATION LINE? NO THANK YOU. I'm sooooo glad I volunteer!

I got my wallet stolen during the cosplay contest, which ssssSSSUUUUUUCKED.
Long story short, IT KINDA RUINED SATURDAY FOR ME. 8'D
Thankfully, the hotel staff found it on Sunday
But it was pretty undeniably stolen, which is always a disgusting feeling
ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THEY TOOK IT RIGHT OUT OF MY BACK POCKET.
GROSS.
IDK man. I could just go on and on!
Aside from getting to hang out with people, it was just the worst con experience I've had in a loooooong time. 8v
THE ONLY WORSE EVENT I'VE BEEN TO WAS NAKA-KON, BUT I DON'T EVEN COUNT THAT ONE AS EVER HAPPENING. HURR.
To make up for how miserable our A-Kon experience was, though, Zeekweasel and I had a SUPER FUN TIME on Sunday and Monday. c:
Went to IHOP right after we left the con, which was a fantastic decision!
He was able to spend the night at my grandparents' house with me, so we went and saw a movie (Now You See Me-- WHICH WE TOTALLY RECOMMEND SEEING, BECAUSE OMG. IT WAS AWESOME.), ran around on shopping adventures, etc.! I'd typed up a HUGE journal full of individual thank-yous to pretty much everyone who showed up for CPFM, with stories and details of how you all impacted me and influenced how fantastic that little furmeet was for me...
I wasn't able to complete it all at once, due to the whole HAVING ONLY 1 WEEK TO PACK MY ENTIRE HOUSE AND MOVE OUT thing, so I just saved it and was going to continue it later.
Two weeks later and, now that all the psychotic activities have died down and I have had my first real opportunity to get on the computer...
I turn it on, and it had apparently restarted itself.
Okay, no big deal.
Until, y'know.
I realize that it had undone everything I saved from the last day I used my computer.
SO I GUESS THAT LONG JOURNAL IS JUST GONE AND I HAVE NO WAY TO RECOVER IT
AND, AT THIS POINT, I JUST FEEL LIKE I NEED TO POST A JOURNAL ASAP SO PEOPLE KNOW I DIDN'T JUST FORGET? 8'D
CPFM WAS JUST AS AMAZING AS IT WAS LAST YEAR;
AS WELL, CPFM RETAINS ITS STATUS AS MY FAVORITE OF ALL THE FURRY CONS I HAVE ATTENDED
If you're ever questioning whether or not CPFM is worthwhile, considering it's a smaller event and is thought to be a "meet" rather than a full "con"...
STOP QUESTIONING.
It is absolutely worth it, man.
There may not be many panels, but... honestly? Who goes to a furry con for panels, anyway? Isn't the point of furries about the community more than anything, anyway? :V
AND, TRUST ME, THIS COMMUNITY IS ONE WORTH BEING A PART OF.
I had so much fun hanging out with everyone, and there were too many memorable occurrences to list without literally just LISTING EVERY MINUTE OF THE WEEKEND. HURR.
Sadly, I lost my voice the second day, which SUUUUUUCCCCCKED, but certainly didn't stop me from having an awesome time!!
(Though, it DID stop me from packing my house during the following week, as I ended up getting my throat infected and having to go to the doctor to get on a course of antibiotics. LOL WHOOPS.)
Even without my voice, though, you guys made it an awesome experience!
Not only that, but it was easily the most fun I've had as Guest of Honor at a con!

IN ANOTHER BRIEF CON REPORT:
I managed to make it out to A-Kon, last weekend!!
Spent most of it with

, and other pals who don't have FAs!I also met up with some awesome other furs, but I don't happen to know their usernames! :C
Thing is, though...
It was literally the WORST A-KON I'VE EVER ATTENDED
Just. WOW
I HAD A PRETTY MISERABLE TIME
The new hotel is absolute garbage, and I SERIOUSLY HOPE THEY FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO GO, BECAUSE OMG. IT WAS AWFUL. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.
That place was NOT bigger than the Sheraton. :I Maybe longer, but there was WAY less total area, because there were SO FEW FLOORS BEING UTILIZED.
I MEAN, THINK ABOUT IT.
The Sheraton consisted of THREE HUGE buildings, all with multiple floors that were ALL in use. I mean, there was an ENTIRE MALL for people to spread out in!!
Now, there's pretty much just one convention center.
I mean, don't get me wrong-- the extra open space made it easier for people to spread out for photo opps, etc.! Which was definitely awesome! But, aside from that, it was a HORRIBLE setup for lines.
A-KON ALWAYS HAS BAD LINES, but the horrid arrangements this year really made the line-situation spiral out of control. 8v 5+ HOURS IN THE REGISTRATION LINE? NO THANK YOU. I'm sooooo glad I volunteer!
-- BUT, I DIGRESS.
I got my wallet stolen during the cosplay contest, which ssssSSSUUUUUUCKED.
Long story short, IT KINDA RUINED SATURDAY FOR ME. 8'D
Thankfully, the hotel staff found it on Sunday
But it was pretty undeniably stolen, which is always a disgusting feeling
ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THEY TOOK IT RIGHT OUT OF MY BACK POCKET.
GROSS.
IDK man. I could just go on and on!
Aside from getting to hang out with people, it was just the worst con experience I've had in a loooooong time. 8v
THE ONLY WORSE EVENT I'VE BEEN TO WAS NAKA-KON, BUT I DON'T EVEN COUNT THAT ONE AS EVER HAPPENING. HURR.
To make up for how miserable our A-Kon experience was, though, Zeekweasel and I had a SUPER FUN TIME on Sunday and Monday. c:
Went to IHOP right after we left the con, which was a fantastic decision!
He was able to spend the night at my grandparents' house with me, so we went and saw a movie (Now You See Me-- WHICH WE TOTALLY RECOMMEND SEEING, BECAUSE OMG. IT WAS AWESOME.), ran around on shopping adventures, etc.!
