Setting up a Society 6 shop
Posted 10 years agoIs there anything you'd like to see there in particular?
A-Z meme
Posted 10 years agoA. What are your favorite smells?
Most things food (peaches and lemonade are favorites for this time of year), plants and rain. Also raw beef. Idk what it is but I can't get enough of it before I cook it.
B. Can you go a whole day without caffeine?
Yeah, I go tons of days without caffeine, largely due to the fact that it could trigger my Graves Disease to be active again :T
C. Who knows more about you than anyone else?
I guess my partner. I'm not much of a sharer, though. I'm a hold-it-all-in-until-the-problems-are-gone kinda person.
D. What song did you last listen to?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPmn5vMThbc
E. Do you have a crush on anybody?
Willow from Buffy the Vampire slayer because she's amazing.
F. Do you like The Beatles?
Not in particular. Apparently my music tastes are pretty consistently broody jazz/ambient/folk.
G. If you could choose one color to wear for a whole year, what color would you choose?
Black because I pretty much dress like a weird modernized western villain.
H. Do you cook often?
I do a lot! I'm apparently the only one among my friends who knows how to cook much of anything? I don't really like to cook, I just really like food.
I. What was the last film you watched? Did you like it?
I guess I'll count Poirot as a movie, because honestly these episodes are over an hour and a half long. I'm on season 10 and it's grown on me.
J. Can you sew?
Yes. And print and dye fabric!
K. What is your favorite fruit?
Watermelon. During summer I eat it almost every day. If they get kinda gross and mealy, I blend them down and freeze them with some juice and a little sugar to make watermelon granita.
L. Are you health conscious?
I am, but am not exactly active about it. I also just generally prefer getting fresh fruits and vegetables and cooking from that, so a lot of what I make is pretty healthy. I'm pretty much sedentary though.
M. Go do the Kinsey scale test, what number result did you receive?
I got X
That sounds about right.
At least regarding the honestly simple options available. :I
N. Do you curse a lot?
Yes. I'm actually playing a Dungeons and Dragons character that specifically does not use abrasive or offensive language and I'm not good at staying true to that ._.
O. When was the last time you had a pint of beer?
Never, beer is awful. I usually drink cheap champagne or mix something with jello so I don't have to deal with the alcohol flavor as much. There's a few tea vodkas out there that are okay too.
P. Are you pro life or pro choice?
Choice. I think that the world and this decision is far too nuanced, with too many further reaching consequences, to just use a blanket "no". Maybe at some point in the future, it won't be necessary, but for now it's the grim reality of our limitations and our needs.
Q. Is there a certain food you often crave for no reason?
Milk usually. It's just so damn satisfying.
R. What was the last book you purchased?
I legitimately don't know.
S. Where was your last vacation?
Uuuuh, dunno, it's been too long.
Probably visiting family in Branson, ugh.
T. Do you shave your pits?
Nope.
U. Did you ever play seven minutes in heaven?
I was waaaaay to much of a social reject to even be in the presence of that game.
V. Girls, when was the last time you went out without a bra?
Wtf do I do with this?
W. Guys, when was the last time you went shirtless in public?
These are.....vaguely insulting from my position???
X. Have you ever broken a bone? If so, how did it happen?
Only once. I broke my toe and I did because I stood up too quick, started blacking out and accidently kicked the kitchen counter. I didn't feel it though, just heard it.
Y. How do you like your eggs?
Scrambled with asiago cheese and little bits of sausage and onion. I made this with just stuff I had in the fridge once and learned that the cheese changes the texture in such a way that it tastes weirdly similar to crab cakes with all those ingredients.
Z. What was your last argument about and who with?
*sigh*
I was arguing with my partner about how genitals for a made up race works -_-

Tablets?
Posted 10 years agoI've been wanting a tablet for the sake of writing and doodling outside of my house (waaay more convenient than carrying 2-3 books and supplies around with me, and I can connect to my working docs online instead of rewriting all my notes bleh) and am sifting through the myriad of tablets available, augh. I'm currently thinking Asus' Vivotab (which is a brand I trust, is less expensive than many others, and comes with a good wacom stylus for the doodles), but figured I'd ask any of you what kinds of tablets you have and what you prefer or any noteworthy experiences you've had with them.
So what have you got and what are your opinions, or do you have any recommendations?

So I've finally finished about a dozen dentist appointments
Posted 10 years agoAnd after a 4 hour long session yesterday, most of my teeth got fixed up before my insurance ran out. I'm pretty sure my mouth is about 60% fillings and crowns by now. Depression and a generalized fear of doctors pretty much all trans people deal with (I had list of a whopping 4 dentists within all of Kansas City to choose from that were known to be trans friendly) has kept me from getting them fixed up for the past three years, where I watched some lil dents become pretty dang big holes. Still have two more that need crowns and a few more fillings, but the worst was taken care of! So excited to have this all out of the way!
Art inspiration blog!

Patreon!
Posted 10 years agoI've had this up for a while, but have little to no sense of self-worth so I never got around to announcing it in any useful manner, but I have a Patreon to help produce all the things I like to share for free. I'd hugely appreciate any donations or even if you share this UuU <3
Every dollar you donate will also give you a credit to win a raffle for a free art every month, and you'll get access to art ad news that I don't share anywhere else, comics no one else gets to see, and fun stuff like that.

Anyone know any good mysteries?
Posted 10 years agoBecause I love them and need more :u
Any favorite mystery movies or shows? :>
Edit:
For whatever reason it didn't occur to me that people would bring up real-life mysteries, I was just thinking of tv shows and shit (probably because I've been watching too much Hitchcock), but this is also very acceptable!

Westerado!
Posted 10 years agoMy friend got me Westerado for my birthday last weekend and I just finished it up. Apparently, everyone insisted that was a game that was made for me and they were right ._.
Obviously, its about cowboys, so I inherently want to like it. It sets up a good mood, is super pretty, tugs nostalgic, and keeps you aware of and involved in the environment by having you look out for specific people. It has a decent amount of replay value, too. It evidently has co-op, too, but I haven't tried it! I somehow managed to unintentionally unlock all the characters in the first playthrough, though, and will mess around with them soon. Also, final boss is crazy hard compared to the rest of the game, holy crap.

Posted 10 years agoHow are you? I hope you're doing good. If not, have an e-smooch, you're lovely.
Moved Pauvres Defans Amis to tumblr
Posted 10 years agoI've just finished moving over Pauvres Defans Amis to tumblr as the host site of the comic (as opposed to blogger, which was originally just simpler to set up and link to a custom domain). It should be a little easier to update and follow now, and got a nice makeover! You can follow it and read the most recent page at defansamis.com!

Updates and stuff about generators!
Posted 11 years agoSo I've been pretty quiet for a month or two now. This is for a variety of reasons overwhelmingly biased towards the "assloads of work" option. Being dissatisfied with the vagary of many online generators, the lack of some generator subjects like food and plants, and needing/wanting some fairly specific ones for my own projects, I've started working on a series of random generators, which will be live on my website for all y'all to use on January 1.
Insofar, I have completed plant generators (a general one, a detailed one, and one for fungi), poison and drug generators, diseases and cure generators. I'm currently working on food generators, mostly finished with with drink and a flavor-anything gen. This one is proving especially complicated and difficult, though, since I decided to generate entire meals with specific ingredients. I have a bunch more planned that may or may not get done before Jan 1st, but will be listed as future additions.
Otherwise, I've been working on a music video and some more game stuff as well as setting up a patreon, which will also go live at the beginning of next month. I realize I'm pretty stinkin terrible at staying organized and not picking up a hundred thousand projects at once, but I'm trimming down my work and trying to sort it to better to streamline my continuous projects and make room for the shorter-term ones. I still have a lot of backlogged art to post here, so there may be a minor flood in the near future.
SO HOW YOU GUYS BEEN?

Gooooosh, also minor transition update (1 year 7-8 mo on T)
Posted 11 years agoI really hate being inactive I always feel so guilty i_i
News updates though:
- I'm working on a music video that I have a lot of creative control on and is p fun.
- Plotting some future comic stuff and have a pretty big backlog of sketches and art I need to upload, too. Been doing - - - Pauvres Defans Amis pretty consistently in the meantime though.
- Hoping to get Walk Softly moving again soon - it keeps getting stuck behind other projects and life shit.
- Crazy sleepy auuugh
- Cleaned up a nice tidy weekly schedule to start producing sharable art more consistently!
- Been watching Murder, She Wrote. Oman80shairforever
I recently took a picture of myself(via crappy webcam) to see how it compared to previous crappy webcam photos of myself. Found a pre-T photo (kinda, not showing a lotta face, not even sure when or why it was taken). had one from around 6-8 months, I think. Beard hair is filling out pretty good, still fairly patchy, but it's not as noticeable. Honestly, not a lot has changed, but it's weird how normal it is to see photos of myself now. I can actually look at myself and be okay and not feel that subliminal undercurrent of wrongness.

Recent stuff
Posted 11 years agoI don't being inactive, but I've ha a mix of silly problems and time-intensive projects lately. Been getting issues in my laptop that all point to a power problem (new battery isn't charging, occasional random freezing or shutdown, second hard drive missing once) and the power jack is a little loose; I'm thinking I just need to replace it. In any case after about a week of testing different thing, moving hard drives around, and panic attacks, I seem to have found a better outlet that causes less problems.
I've also been making some Don't Stave mods. I've updated Devon to be compatible with the new DLC Reign of Giants, and I've made a new one, Wisp the cat. Wisp even comes with custom sounds! I'm about finished making two more cat characters to add to Wisps mod, which are basically in preparation for the next DLC, which will add multiplayer. Because who doesn't want to run around as a hoard of wild cats with their friends?
I'm contemplating starting a Patreon for the comics I make. All of them, just in a bundle, so Pauvres Defans Amis and the little stupid personal animated comics I do from time to time, and if I get enough on there I may be able start up Devon's Pillow Book again! I've also been considering starting a NSFW comic, but I'll need a few things settled before I do anything about it.
SO WHAT HAVE Y'ALL BEEN UP TO?

Seriously.
Posted 11 years agoI love to hear about trans people finding the words to describe themselves, moving ahead with their own unique transitions and beginning to find stability and understanding in their lives and identities. I am so goddamn proud of you and so excited for your future. Your lives are hard in a way that most people will never grasp and you have the strength and tenacity to strangle a beast invisible to the rest of the world. I adore you, and your abilities make me feel fulfilled in my own struggles. Have the best fucking day you can, you deserve it.
After sitting on it for a good long while
Posted 11 years agoI've discovered that I'm largely asexual. Been filled with testosterone for a year and a half, with steadily decreasing depression and steadily more noticeable extreme lack of interest in sex. I'm fairly convinced that the interest I had before was due to pressure from a previous abusive relationship. The small bits where I do feel attraction to people will be to just about anyone, though. Romantic interest occurs in roughly the same manner. It's really fitting though, considering it all basically matches my gender as well - some weird agender/third gender thing.
Just felt like putting that tidbit about me out on more solid ground; it's mostly been floating in my head for a while. Shit's wacky sometimes!

Posted 11 years agoMy mouse got better! Randomly one day. That seems to usually be how mice get sick. Just wake up one morning and they're utterly pathetic and then back to normal another.
Gaaaah
Posted 11 years agoI'm really excited to be so close to finishing this little game. I've had a lot of personal crap, mostly ridiculous depression, holding me back the past couple of months, but we're basically sitting on the tail end of expanding our Ludum Dare project, One Way Out. We'll be posting it online free to play when we're done and it will have a lot of little story and symbolism treasures to find as well as multiplayer availability! Looking into some screen recording software to get some video up of it.
Limited scratchboard commissions
Posted 11 years agoI found a bunch of clayboard I had saved up from...something or other.
I have only nine of them left over and will use them for commissions until I'm out.
They're pretty freaking awesome for fur detailing and typically have a pretty brooding/moody appeal.
They can be colored traditionally or digitally, as well!
Full (7x5 in)
Example 1

Small (~3.5x2.5 in)

I'm learning to play an instrument!
Posted 11 years agoMy sleep schedule lately has been totally nonsensical lately. It's been twice a day for 2 and 4 hours. It's not a very good sleep schedule, but it won't stop happening, dammit!
Anyway, I'm a detrimentally hesitant and cautious person with pretty shitty self confidence and social anxiety, so I decided recently to learn to play a stick dulcimer (which is basically half of a guitar: it's a little smaller and has three strings). It's difficult the be as hesitant as I am and play music, like, at all. Once I get decent enough, I'll play outside on the porch or on the sidewalk. In front of people. >:I To help with getting the fuck over being around people.
I practice at least one hour every other day or so and have three songs down insofar to help me figure shit out. I'm pretty excited about it and feel like I'm doing alright for all of two weeks of experience with any instrument at all ever. It's already helped me deal with self confidence issues quite a bit and it's just nice to be working on a skill that doesn't involve me sitting in front of the computer. My laptop may as well just be my lap, I basically never get away from it.

Posted 11 years agoOne of our three mice has gotten sick and lost tons of weight. It's just ridiculously sad to see a little skeletal mouse creak and hobble around their tank. She seems to be getting a little better though and her buddies give her lots of cuddles.
