Zappa at the Montreaux
General | Posted 13 years agoSo so sorry I haven't updated or anything in a while. I am admittedly a bit lazy when it comes to the furry stuff, if you haven't noticed. :3
Anyway, while on one of my random music journeys across the wastes of YouTube, I came across the audio from Zappa's infamous show at the Montreaux in '71. You know, the show with the fire that Deep Purple wrote the song about.
Anyway, since I hadn't heard it, I figured I'd give it a listen, and post it on here. It goes for about an hour and a half, right until the fire starts to consume the casino and various bits of audio equipment. You don't usually hear Frank directing people out of a burning auditorium, but you will here.
https://youtu.be/9lpFeopjJhI
Enjoy the bit of history (if you haven't already), and I'll try to think of more stuff to put one here for you all in the future. I'm also open to suggestions, too. ;3

And we're back.... With some Thing-Fish!
General | Posted 13 years agoAlright, so, first off, lemme apologize for not updating for like, months and months and months. I've been busy with school and art and a multitude of other things. It's good there's new people, I thought this place was as dead as.... well, who do you think? ;3
Anyway, if I recall from last time, I was gonna post up some songs (well, the entire album) from Thing-Fish, which was probably one of Zappa's best, and strangest projects in my opinion. Unfortunately, the Zappa Family Trust was at it again, with Gail doing the usual, and making sure there's no free Zappa shit on youtube, while you have to go and spend $40 for a CD of Joe's Garage... Fortunately, it all seems to be back up, so you're in luck! ;3
So, I'll post the songs, but the thing about it that I really wanted to share, however, is the NSFW spread in Hustler that Zappa did, with pictures from what would have been the Broadway show. Yes, pictures from your favorite songs, like Briefcase Boogie, for instance. I'll also post a link to the hustler article, which is hilarious. Larry Flynt said it was the weirdest thing he had ever put in that magazine, and that says a LOT.
So here it is, but, before I post the link, once again I'll put a big 'ol NSFW before it, since you wouldn't want your boss/teacher/parents to walk in on you looking at pictures of some crazy-haired blonde porn star with huge tits crotch-riding a huge fountain pen or briefcase, with some tasteless look of ecstasy and disgust on her face while she's watched by a giant potato-headed whatchamacallit, an unnamed Italian, an over-educated shithead in bondage gear, and some mammy-nuns.
But then again, that shit's still not anywhere as strange as half the shit on FA, and, honestly, what the fuck are you doing perusing FA at school or work, anyway? You want everyone thinking you're some kind of a freak? Huh? ;3
So: http://home.online.no/~corneliu/thingfish2.html
You go and enjoy the hell outta that (I know I did, ha ha ha), you'll laugh your ass off. Best viewed while listening to the album, which is probably one of Zappa's best (or worst) works ever, depending on how you look at things. Definitely his most misunderstood, and one of my favorites:

This is America, boy, I never promised you no rose garden!
General | Posted 14 years agoSo I have to apologize for not posting anything on here for you in a while, school and real life gets in the way sometimes, you know?
So anyway, here's some more Zappa, and more importantly, some of his more accessible and less esoteric stuff. Except at the end, where I'm gonna put in some of his pre-Mothers surf rock CUCAMONGA shit, which is always fun.
Apostrophe is always a good one to start off with:
https://youtu.be/CmVvgo1wxh4
https://youtu.be/C30XgTQAsHI
https://youtu.be/Hzsmh9yU2D4
https://youtu.be/xB8G2am0e5I

https://youtu.be/xYQX90xA2Dk
https://youtu.be/twgwDQrP1ok
https://youtu.be/D9FBQ1O5F8k
And of course, here's a few from the album that got me into Zappa in the first place, Sheik Yerbouti:
https://youtu.be/IudPPlBmJs4
https://youtu.be/zF4N-lvduG0
https://youtu.be/1ErXPx_-QFg
https://youtu.be/qtuTUsDd6gk
https://youtu.be/SPPvSiFLyXA
And while I'm leaving quite a few bits of awesomeness out of that album (sadly), here's a few more of my old favorites that you may know:
https://youtu.be/hcm7uJ74XFI
https://youtu.be/nllWDc8_9lw

https://youtu.be/mGY5GIRGboU
https://youtu.be/DKFPMRNxIfE
https://youtu.be/Rpdcm4UdvsQ (source of the journal's title, JUST SO YOU KNOW)
And so, after all of that, here's some of the earliest stuff Zappa was involved in:
https://youtu.be/fTXWEddT-7I
https://youtu.be/jGgNGJQwt8E
https://youtu.be/YNiMgpJEl-8
https://youtu.be/t97GDTsUO3Q
https://youtu.be/HrOWyfHaWZ0
https://youtu.be/Zt1TifnFdUY
And that should last you all for a while. ;3
Next time, we'll do the greatest Broadway musical ever made, Thing-Fish! And if anyone's still paying attention to the group after that, I'll let you all decide what gets put up for a while, since this thing is no fun if it's all one-sided.

Hit that long, lunar note...
General | Posted 14 years agoEven though this is a Zappa-based group, I don't think it'd be fair to go any further with this without a Captain Beefheart music dump. If I didn't listen to him, I would have never have gotten into Zappa in the first place. And the fact that it hasn't even been a year since he died is another good reason.
Zappa was fantastic, don't get me wrong, but in my opinion, Don was the true mad genius of the era, who took it all to a whole new level. Even though he could be a huge asshole at times...

Random Music Journal A
General | Posted 14 years agoWell, as was suggested in the last journal by
icono, various Zappa songs will be posted as suggestions. Problem is, there's so much music by him, I really have no idea where to start. Since I'm feeling lazy today, I'll just go ahead and put up everything that has already been referenced by you guys and myself. At least, whatever's on youtube. So, with that being said, here are our references and the things they belong to: (Not that most of you don't already know this anyway. :3)

Is this phase one of lumpy gravy?
General | Posted 14 years agoMaybe....
Well, this group is actually an experiment by
triadfox,
who is an avid (some might say mildly obsessed) Frank Zappa fan. This point of the group is to see how many of you like Frank's music, or have been inspired by him somehow. Captain Beefheart is included here too, of course. ;3
I've noticed, and maybe you have too, that the combination of Zappa and Furry is insanely awesome. And it's not just the poodles and mud sharks, either. Considering all the things that man made songs about, can you imagine if he had found out about this fandom? "Broken hearts are for Assholes" and Thing-Fish would have nothing on that song or album, ha ha.
But anyway, aside from all of that, if this thing actually gets more than a handful of members, maybe this could be some kind of repository for Zappa/Beefheart related furry art and music, or something. If anyone joins, you all can help decide.
I'm down for whatever. :3
