Update on art things (selling arts, commission status etc.)
General | Posted 13 years agoSo I have finally put some new stuff up on my Etsy page,
http://www.etsy.com/shop/staticcreature
I have some other dolls and bits of leather stuff that I may put up there too, or maybe just bring along to Midfur... not sure yet.
Otherwise, I have my hands pretty full until about the end of this year with commissions and other projects. This year has been a lot of experimentation, just been trying out some different things to see what people are most interested in.
Thanks to the people who have shown interest. I expect I will be taking on a lot more commissions again around the start of next year. Until then, I have bunches of stuff to be busy with. Lots of distractions.. I've also been kinda sucking at responding to comments and such, sorry, I don't mean to ignore anyone..
I also got one of those Weasyl things. My username is zarathus there also. I will probably be using that rather than Nabyn now for random bits and pieces of stuff, and hope it doesn't end up as quiet and dead as Nabyn did.
Aside from that, I am curious to hear what people like seeing from me most art-wise?

Selling some stuff
General | Posted 14 years agoNeed to make space for new things, so I am selling off some of my old bits of art. Masks, paintings, etc.
So I have set up an etsy shop - http://www.etsy.com/shop/zcreature
Just a few things on there so far, I will be adding more as I go.

Update
General | Posted 14 years agoConsidering lots of art things as usual. I am still unsure if I should try to take my art in any particular direction, or continue experimenting with all kinds of different mediums.
There is so much I want to do, and have been meaning to do, but as I have discovered I can't specialise in everything at once. I'm trying out lots of different things, but neglecting practice in particular areas in doing so, such as drawing. I hardly do any sketching anymore compared to what I used to..
I still have many projects in mind which I hope to begin some time... soonish. I am excited to start these things.
I will probably be arting more consistetly from now on. Since making the dragon costume, I seem to have found a lot more motivation. Though I pretty much don't do anything but art anymore. :|
Probably also will start posting my personal/crap/sketches stuff to another account on here. Note me or something if you would like to know where that will be.
And I will be opening for commissions soon, once I have finished the current ones I have. Especially more fluffy doll commissions. If anyone is interested in anything particular, let me know. Otherwise I will be posting journals some time soon for when I will be taking them and what I'll be doing.

Is it possible to make a living off furry art..
General | Posted 14 years ago.. if you don't do porn?
I have seen furry art alone supporting a decent number of artists, but I can't think of a single one who doesn't do a lot of porn in the mix. I don't have any issue with the pornz, nor do I need to hear another rant on how "sad" you might think it is that furries are predominantly drawn to porn/fetish stuff. Just generally curious about whether it's possible. The only examples I can think of would be the costume makers, or other crafty bits and pieces.
I just wonder what could appeal to people enough to provide adequate monies for living comfortably, as far as creature/anthro related work goes.

Thinking about furry cons...
General | Posted 14 years agoRe-considering furry conventions.
After a couple of years of forgetting about the whole thing, various changes and things have found me curious about them once again. I have a few options, all of which I'd have to dedicate some serious thought and effort towards.
First would be the easiest, and therefore more likely to be immediately rewarding. Just heading back over to Australia at the end of this year to visit Midfur, perhaps do the same as I did last time and use it to also explore a bit around parts of Australia. It's not a huge convention, but was still entertaining last time, I even managed to sell some arts O.o! Still don't really know many Australians though..
The other option would be one of the larger US cons next year. Either FC or AC, which seem to be where I'm most likely to meet peoples. Either AC next year, or FC the year after, quite a wait.
Despite being a longer wait and bigger effort for the US cons, it looks like it may be more worthwhile overall. I have never visited the northern hemisphere, and I'd like to. I'd also use the con as another excuse to explore other areas if I'm able to. I would very much like to see parts of Canada and pretty scenic places, maybe California too. Oh joys.
But it is a long way to travel for that, and I'm not sure if it's worth bothering with a con if its merely to passively meet a bunch of people I vaguely know on the internet. I have heard varying stories about peoples' experiences at the bigger cons, it doesn't really sound worth it unless you have a fairly solid group of friends going, or if you want to be sitting and selling art most of the time. I'm not sure how well my art would sell? I still kinda lack the whole internet friends thing, and for the few that I do speak with online, it wouldn't be a given that they'd turn up to something like a big furry convention.
New Zealand is beginning to look increasingly... devoid, I feel like I need to take more serious steps to branch out. Though I'm sure there is still much to be found yet nearby, if I find the right places to look.
I dunno :| I am just bored and lonely. I want to see more of the world. Just mulling over options here since I really have no idea what I should do yet.
So yeah, I'd be curious to hear other peoples' thoughts on cons and their experiences, which ones you go to, how well art sales go, which you prefer etc.

FRIDAY (industrial-esq music requests)
General | Posted 14 years agohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AcYsHkV6n4 I love it!
Plz be telling me any suggestions you have for good industrial musics. I need more mechanical, grinding, screeching scary sounding industrial rather than the fluffy electro and whiney sounding electronic rock/metal that seem to makeup the majority of the "popular" industrial music choices.
But any suggestions are good, yes. :|

Other anthro/creature websites?
General | Posted 14 years agoSo, what other anthro/creature places do you visit? I'm curious about what else is around, as far as art sites/forums/roleplays/chats/games etc. that involve creatures.
At the moment I only really use FA and DA, and occasionally a couple of other forums. I've looked at some of the other art sites, Sofurry and Inkbunny look... creepy, Furocity looks potentially interesting.
Thinking of making a character account, just to post sketches, info and crap of my own characters. I try to keep this account more as a gallery for vaguely decent art that I've done.

Livejournal?
General | Posted 15 years agoSo, who still uses livejournal?
If anyone is interested, I will be using mine as a dumping ground for sketchy, old, or other art that I won't post to galleries.

Metal covers of pop songs?
General | Posted 15 years agoI find these incredibly amusing and awesome, I have discovered that pop-esq songs seem to make pretty good metal songs :D
Here are some examples I have found recently -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4bqRpXPy4kM Justin Bieber - Baby
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eIzoWNQqnEQ Katy Perry - Teenage Dream
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZxLz_x6YMM REM - Losing my Religion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHGbGV1rRYI - Haddaway - What is love
Though I have to say I prefer the originals of the latter two.
Does anyone have any other excellent examples of metal covers? I am keen to hear more!

Looking for electronic rap/hiphop/grime/something
General | Posted 15 years agoWell, as the title says. I really enjoy rap style vocals with some kind of electronic backing, but apparently I suck at finding music I actually like, and most similar music that I've found doesn't quite appeal to me. Generally darker/bassy stuff sounds more appealing, most of what I've found seems a bit too.. poppy? I guess.
If anyone knows of anything that they could recommend I would be grateful! Here are a few examples that I really like -
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tW3sxNYFwMU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EsGwLFchRg
http://www.myspace.com/nurevolution - Excuse you
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVCkKAOUkmA
I also kind of like some Tinie Tempah and Stanton Warriors.
In other news, I'm finding the internet is so goddamn boring at the moment. What kind of things do you occupy yourself with in internet-land?

Busy
General | Posted 15 years agoGenerally very busy at the moment, with various going ons, so I'm going to be largely inactive here, until some time during October from the looks of things. I don't have that much time (or motivation >>) for personal art either beyond sketches. I miss painting! But I am working on some physical media projects that will also be done before around October. I'll have a two week break coming up which I'll be spending in NZ's south island with
delicious-oil so I'll to get some stuff done then.
See you guys later. I'll still be around a bit..

Wolf mask for sale - custom painted
General | Posted 15 years agoEDIT: Sold. Will be selling one more of these in the future some time.
--
I'm selling a latex wolf mask I've just completed. It was just a test piece, getting an idea of what works and what doesn't for this style of mask. As such its not exactly immaculate quality, but it is fairly detailed and I'm offering a custom detailed paint job.
Pictures -

And here are some past masks I've made, to give an indication of painting work -
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1567183/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2199686/
Honestly I'm not sure what to charge for something like this, so I will sell to best offer.
Please NOTE me if you are interested, with a price offer as well as reference pictures or description of what you'd like as far as coloration goes.
Thanks guys.
