Various happenings
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, I won't be going to Midfur this year as I have no one to go with. Not so keen on traveling alone. Baww etc. There were a few people I was hoping to see again, but I'll aim for next year, see how that goes.
I spent this past weekend attempting to sell art at Auckland's Armageddon expo. I have to say, I like furries for their general inclination towards arts. I sold more at a convention of 250 furries than I did at a convention of many thousands of people. Anime arts or fanart is the way to go if you're looking to sell a lot to a wider audience, as I saw. Or dragons. Everyone likes dragons.
Still questioning what to do with myself as far as art goes. It's looking likely I'll have more focus on it next year than I have for the past two. This will be quite a change in direction...
I am bored.
What is everyone up to for Halloween?

General | Posted 17 years agoSomething
General | Posted 17 years agoThough I doubt anyone would notice, I'm probably going to be inactive here and other internet places for a while. I've become totally disinterested in online communities lately. I hope I don't seem like I'm ignoring anyone, I just can't find the interest or motivation for "socialising" online. I almost miss being able to spend all day infront of a computer, finding it totally engaging and really enjoyable.
My motivation for art has become almost non-existent too. The ideas are there, just not the motivation.
And for an update on con things, turns out I might be going over to the Australian furry con later this year. Sure it might be tiny in comparison to something like AC, but it's closer to where I am (and cheaper!), I'll probably be traveling with lots of friends, and it's a good excuse to go investigate other parts of Australia. I currently only know a couple of Australian furries, but I don't really care. Going to see if I can sell some arts, and I'm just keen to see some kind of con that's more substantial than what we get in NZ.
Also, my face is melting.
Uhm, yep. That's about it.

Albums meme and things..
General | Posted 18 years agoTop 10 Albums. The basic rules are:
1) The bands don't have to be insanely popular.
2) The albums don't have to go in order of how good they are. Just list what you like.
3) Also, make sure to list one of each, since this is only a Top 10 list.
1. PIG - Wrecked
2. Error EP
3. NIN - The Fragile
4. Skinny Puppy - The Greater Wrong of The Right
5. 12 Rounds - My Big Hero
6. Faith No More - Album of The Year
Uhh...
I don't have that many albums I could consider favorites. I like bits and pieces of many albums.
Songs:
1. Skinny Puppy - Candle
2. Schwein - Slip Mekon Mix
3. Puscifer - Rev 22-20 (Rev 420 mix)
4. 12 Rounds - Me Again
5. NIN - The Big Come Down
6. Error - Burn in Hell
7. KMFDM - Pity For The Pious
8. PIG - Junky
9. Dead Can Dance - The Ubiquitous Mr Lovegrove
10. Boards of Canada - Turquoise Hexagon Sun
I'm now doubting I'll be going to any kind of furry con for a long while. Essentially I can't justify spending that amount of money to see some furry art and a bunch of aquaintences. I'm also trying to do some things this year that AC would probably interfere with. I'd still like to, but any large cons are too far away from me at this point.

Con questions
General | Posted 18 years agoWell, I am thinking of going to a larger furry con some time next year. But I am still unsure about which I should go to. I haven't been to a furry con before, aside from the tiny meetups here that people try to pass off as "cons".
It looks like I'll either be going to Further Confusion, or anthrocon. So I'd like to hear peoples' experiences or thoughts on either, and who will be attending which? If I go to FC, I'll be traveling with friends, which I prefer. I'm not sure if I'll be able to find anyone willing or able to go over to AC with me. But what I'd be going for is obviously the con itself, as well as meeting some of the internets I know, and so far it looks like more people I'm aquainted with online go to AC.
But yeah, who will be going to FC or AC? And if you've been before to either, what were your thoughts? And stuff?

Update
General | Posted 18 years agoGetting through art slowly. I haven't started on any new pictures in a while however. I'm trying to finish off some of the many incomplete pictures I've had lying around forever. I might not have anything worth submitting here for a while, but if anyone is interested, I have another gallery over on VCL that I post more of my work too. VCL is sorta my art dump gallery, so most of it is nothing spectacular.

A tale of woe (NIN and Sydney)
General | Posted 18 years agoLast week I flew over to Sydney, mainly for the purpose of seeing a NIN concert, along with just seeing the city itself. I've previously never been to a larger city than Auckland, and the experience kindly elucidated what a tiny shithole Auckland's city actually is. Still, I can't say big cities are my thing.
The first couple of days of the trip were all right. Investigated the zoos, the parks, and the beaches. I was quite impressed by the amount of wildlife over there, even around city areas. NZ seems totally dead in comparison. The wild pelicans, ravens, ibises and lizards made me particularly happy. But mostly I was looking forward to the NIN concert, as I am tragically obsessed.
On the day of the concert we got there pretty early, and waited around outside the venue. People with spiral tickets were allowed in earlier than everyone else, so there wasn't too long to go. You could hear what sounded to be the band rehearsing before the concert, inside.
And then I overheard someone in the crowd, mentioning that the concert was cancelled. I didn't take this seriously, with it being so soon until the concert was due to begin, and hearing the band right inside. But as I wandered around the area, I began noticing this was the topic of conversation for near everyone in the vicinity. So I went to ask the person at the box office about this, and he validated that the concert had indeed been cancelled, this feking soon before it was supposed to start D: D: FAIL.
So, overall, I'd say this trip was a very big waste of money. If I'd been able to get further outside of Sydney CBD to do some exploring it would have been cool. But I guess I'm glad to at least have seen Sydney. I want to travel more, preferably some place further away from NZ next time.
On a semi-related note, I'm really liking NIN's Year Zero. Wasn't so sure about it at first, but it's got some interesting sounds to it that I'm really keen on. The music style has taken quite a different direction, and in some parts the hiphop influence is a bit too apparent for my liking. The lyrics generally make me cringe, along with the vocal style in some of the songs, which again seem to show a hiphop influence. It's an album that I find best as a whole, conveying a kind of story, which unsurprisingly happens to be a rather depressing one. But, it's not as "personal" as previous albums, which I'm ambivalent about. While I've gone off blatant "WHAAA I HATE MY LIFE" themes in music, overused political themes (which seems to be what YZ is centered around) aren't my thing either. But, ignoring this, the sound of the music is great. I think this album is far superior to With Teeth, so I'm happy :D
I'm curious about others' opinions of this album, too. Anyone?
Also, no digital art for a while. My larger screen died on me.

General | Posted 18 years agoI am no longer brbing, if that was not evident. Although I don't have much to say here.
Most of my life at the moment is spent existing. It's quite uninspiring. The highlight of this existing is hopefully ahead of me, a week away. Flying over to Australia-land for a few days, seeing NIN, and investigating the surroundings with the remaining time I have there. I'll be glad just to get out of New Zealand for the first time in years.
Doing some art at the moment. Kind of. My art-motivation has been drained, but it always resurfaces if I persist. Attempting to use Illustrator again, which I haven't touched in a while. That program is made of greatness.
I also advise you all to look at this - http://www.truechristian.com/furriesa.html
Serious business. Enjoy.

Yep.
Yep.
Survey, and stuff
General | Posted 18 years agoBeen kinda busy lately. Went down to Wellington for a couple of weeks to do work-stuff for Weta, and now that I'm back, I've still got endless art crap to finish. I also have a never ending list of art for myself, and people, that I need to start on/complete. The amount of picture ideas I have far outweighs my creative capacity. Oh snap. I'll never understand how some artists are able to constantly pump out new, and awesome looking work.
And I think I'm now coming down with a cold. So much sickness to look forward to with winter approaching. Whoo! :|
But anyway, here's a one of these...

Badly.
2. What was your dream growing up?
To be a marine biologist.

Many? Uhh...
4. Favorite place?
Rocky coastline beaches, mountains. Great Barrier Island is also good.

My... cellphone?
11. What is your favorite sport?

12. Negative or Optimistic attitude?
I don't know. I have a tendancy to get so caught up in nuances, that summary of positive or negative isn't possible. Fail. I guess I'm a bit of both, mixed in with a disposition to believe everything has an inherent absense of worth. But that doesn't feel negative, in itself. Erm...
13. Can you eat 50 hot wings?
I hope not.
14. Worst thing to ever happen to you?

I don't know what constitutes "weird"..
18. Where are you?

35. What is your favorite outfit?
Don't care. I like my weird trenchcoat type thing, but otherwise, I'm indifferent about my clothes.

Question about art content...
General | Posted 19 years agoI've just been wondering, what do people want/expect to see from me, art-wise? I've noticed a common theme seems to be expecting pretty looking dragons from me. Sure, I still draw dragons, but when I draw them, it's not purely for the sake of displaying dragons in all their "beauty". I'm really not that interested in dragons anymore.
Although I've previously mentioned that this gallery is intended for my weirder art, that weirdness also extends into the "disturbing and fucked up" spectrum. And much of it I'm very hesitant to upload. I don't have any reason, or need to submit stuff to websites like this unless its for others to see. Because of that, I don't want to be submitting things that people find purely disturbing and unappealing. I'm curious about how many people out there, actually want to see art of mine that leans towards being completely distasteful, and potentially quite offensive to some.
But I also want people to forget about seeing regular dragon/anthro/whatever artwork from me, especially in this gallery. It's not what I draw.
