luciansummers!New Year's approaching, let's end 2016 with a bang
General | Posted 9 years agoSo I'm thinking that since I might be making a switch to a new account just to get a fresh start on FA again, how about one last thing for this account that is a nice trip down memory lane?
Are there any of my characters that I've drawn that you like?
Are there any you like and I haven't drawn them in a long time?
Are there any you like that I've only drawn once?
Suggest them here. I'll try tout make a picture of them as a final send off for this account, and possibly carry them over into the next one. That's not to say I'm straight up abandoning my characters, just going to try and make content with the ones people like the most! So yeah, old and new, whether recent or in the depths of my gallery, give me some ideas and I'll get to work!
Happy 2016 everyone, and happy holidays!

Happy Halloween and stuff: Considering a reboot
General | Posted 9 years agoSo first off, Happy Halloween, go binge on sugar until you suffer from diabeetus and try not to get too spoopy.
Anyway, real talk. So Halloween is all about ghosts, zombies, Frankensteins, whole bunch of dead stuff, right? Well, speaking of dead things, this account. This gallery. Haven't had a single update since February of all times, and the last time I actually drew something was January. So I feel like I've really slogged behind. I've got a few reasons, some of which you may already know of.
1. The desire to do more SFM stuff. And even that's slogging a bit. Most of the stuff I make I keep to myself anyway, because it's made for either just me or a few dear friends. Besides, not all of it is made with entirely original stuff, and is all just a few hobbled together parts.
2. Work I have a rather lackluster yet still-pays-the-college-bill part-time job, and while I thought that would get my mind going, it's kind of stunted my muse even more. And unlike school, I can't just draw while I'm there.
3. Overall disdain and cynicism for this year. Let's face it, 2016 sucks. I'm not gonna get into detail, it just does. Also any political comments/discussions on this journal will be erased; we don't need any debates going on.
4. Expansion to some other fetishes. I mean, there's stuff I've discovered I liked, now I just have to apply it here. (who knows maybe I'll actually get some attention, lol)
5. I just feel like I've grown too different from the me of 7 years ago. Real talk? When I joined FA, I was a wide-eyed idealist full of ideas, but never had the time to draw them all. Now, I fear I've become more cynical and silent, and just bitter as a whole. I don't want people to see that side of me, which is why I might just do this: Reboot my page.
I don't mean deleting this page and then starting a new one, I'll keep this old account around, but also maybe start a new page and just have my updates carry on from there. I'll let my watchers know what my new account is, and everything.
So would you like to see that? A new account with a reduced amount of characters and a little bit more of a focused setup would be nice, right? Please let me know.
EDIT: So I've gone with the reboot idea, but I'm gonna stay here for a bit to hopefully prepare some stuff on the new account. It's over at

luciansummers.Pokemon Sun and Moon: Demo out, Pokedex leaked
General | Posted 9 years agoAs much as I usually jump on leaks to see what's under the rug, I kinda feel like with Sun and Moon I'd like to stay away from it as much as possible. I have seen some of what's been mined in the demo, but honestly, the less exposure I have to it, the better. I won't spoil anything for you guys either, but I will say this.
They're real, and I'm happy they are. I'm still going to go with Popplio on my Sun run, but the sooner I can get ahold of this bastard, the better.

So I'm not dead
General | Posted 9 years agoI just don't really update FA anymore.
Also my birthday is tomorrow, whoopee.

Another unfortunate loss
General | Posted 9 years agoHey there. Sorry that I had to report in some more unfortunate news; but it seems that our cat trouble was not over.
Several hours ago, we had to say goodbye to the other cat in our house, our 16 year-old Mandark, who was one of the most loving cats ever. After having surgery to fix a bladder infection back in March, come three months down the line and he was really showing his age. Yesterday, he had lost control of his bladder three times, and just could barely move and eat. That's when we knew that sadly, it was time.
Goodbye to Mandark, as well as my other cat, Lucky, too; the house will be unnaturally empty with you two not around anymore.

20 Years of Pokemon
General | Posted 10 years agoMan, if it weren't for this series; I probably would've been a completely different person. Pokemon is just something I loved as a child and love even today; and seeing it turn 20 years old just makes me feel nostalgic and happy to see it's still around.
That, and we'll have two new games coming out at the end of the year! Talk about Pokemon pulling out all the stops for its 20th anniversary!
Either way; happy 20th birthday to Pokemon, and here's to you in the years to come!
(I might draw something for this, not sure if I have any ideas)

Really wish I could start a separate account for SFM content
General | Posted 10 years agoI just haven't had the drive to draw lately, and knowing FA's policies on SFM content, it'd probably get shot down.
Rest in peace, JasenTamiia
General | Posted 10 years agoFor those who didn't know;
jasentamiia has sadly passed away due to a household accident. My condolences are with his friends, family, and loved ones, and his legacy shall live on.

General | Posted 10 years agoSorry I couldn't provide some kind of picture. The drive to draw hasn't been there as much as it used to be.
I've been considering switching gears and starting anew on a new account primarily for Source Filmmaker work, but I don't know what FA's policies are on SFM.

So Cloud is in Smash.
General | Posted 10 years agoI was pleasantly surprised.
He reeks a bit of Ike clone but I'm still pretty interested in trying him out, despite never having been into Final Fantasy.
And hey, it could've been worse. Could've been Lightning or well...this guy.

General | Posted 10 years agoSaying goodbye to a beloved furry friend...
General | Posted 10 years agoWell, I don't think I told anyone but, it turns out there was a period where my 11 year-old cat, Lucky, wasn't eating as much as he used to, and after trying a few things, we took him to the vet to get looked at. Turns out that he's suffering from kidney failure, and, unfortunately, must be put down.
I got Lucky back in 2004, when I was on the tail end of 5th grade I believe. He was adorable as a kitten, and it was very nice having another cat for our other cat, Mandark, to play with. The two grew up together, and until now, Lucky seemed less active and lethargic, and the aforementioned eating problem had shown its ugly head.
We tried all we could to save him, but things aren't looking up. Thankfully, he doesn't seem in pain, and almost like he's ready to go. We're going to probably put him down tonight, thus saying our last goodbyes to another family pet. I've done my crying though, granted there might be some tears tonight, but Lucky has led a good life, and was a very loving cat.
So here's to your luck in the next life, little buddy. You will be deeply missed.

My Thoughts On - Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer
General | Posted 10 years agoShort version: I do like it, but I don't think it's for everyone.
Long version: When this was first announced, I wasn't too attentive of it, but I didn't resent the idea. Animal Crossing hasn't had a new main game since New Leaf in 2013, and that's fine (although I wish they did more special events with it), as it seems to be taking the spin-off route, which is nice because it's something different. While I don't think to highly of the upcoming amiibo Festival game (although it seems like Mario Party but less cutthroat), Happy Home Designer was something I was willing to give a shot. I got it for my birthday thanks to my older brother, and with my love for the recent Super Mario Maker and "creator" games in general, I was pretty hopeful about HHD.
That is, until I saw things like some reviews of it. ScrewAttack flat out said it wasn't worth it, GameXplain gave it a "Meh" (although the reviewer stated he's not one for sim games so come on), and IGN's was seemingly the most favorable, with the only gripes being that the rewards feel like they're handed out to you, and you don't get a house of your own. And while those are true, I don't think the game isn't worth it, I just think it's not for everyone.
It's the same issue with Tomodachi Life. I loved it when it first came out, and it was something to talk about on my now defunct Tumblr blog. If I was still willing to put up with Tumblr's bullshit, I'd probably flood it with my HHD posts, and talk about how pretty my houses look. What I love about Happy Home Designer is the same reason I love all the Animal Crossing games in general; they're laid-back, feel-good games to play if you want to unwind, relax, and not stress yourself with other games. Sometimes, games I love playing make me angry, or put me in a foul mood, and Happy Home Designer is the kind of thing I'll pull out when I'm feeling like that, because it helps me to unwind and relax and just feel great. It's right there in the title; it makes me feel happy.
And about the amiibo features, they're completely optional. Unlike games like Splatoon where you require amiibo to get certain things, all the cards are for are basically if you have a favorite villager who hasn't shown up in town to ask about a house, you can scan them and they'll be there. Or, you could have them drop into someone else's home. And as far as the whole "no house of your own" goes, I've taken to "living" at one of my favorite villager's houses, designing it with the both of us in mind. Hopefully, I can edit the homes I make because learning how to do things like floor plans will greatly improve said home. And another thing; based on the times I play them, I almost like to consider Happy Home Designer as a continuation of my New Leaf character's life; where this is his day job before he goes back to town to relax.
But I can perfectly understand if others don't like it, and that's fine. Like I said; it's not a bad game by any means. Everything works as well as it does, and while 40 bucks seems steep, think of it this way. I could pay 15 for a session of aromatherapy and another 15 for another one a week later. Alternatively, I could pay 40 for Happy Home Designer, which gives me just as much satisfaction and doesn't cost anymore for future sessions.

Explanation for a lack of art. I feel I owe one.
General | Posted 10 years agoHey everyone. If you didn't notice, I haven't been drawing as much lately, and as such, my FA has seemed quite dead. Well, I owe a few explanations, so here they are.
tl;dr version:Being out of school makes me lazy. I've been doing more work with SFM/GMod. I don't think people care about what I draw and much rather look at more fetishized things.
First off, I graduated college, and as you may have also seen, the months where I'm not in school are very slow from an artistic standpoint due to my mind not being as productive, and more willing to laze around playing games or whatnot. Now that I'm out of school, that's come full circle. I have done sketches from here and there, but none of them have been really digitized into a colored piece, and not everything is really worth showing.
Second, I went back to DA and made a brand new account for Garry's Mod/Source Filmmaker content I create, since FA's policies on such things are...well...yeah. Trust me. I'd be submitting all the cool model ports and stuff I've done if FA would let me. But alas, it's gotta be strictly art here.
Third, I just don't even know what anyone wants me to draw anymore. Hell, I don't even know what I want to draw anymore. I've always had ideas in my head, but no drive to get them on paper. Usually it's something I can just execute in a 3D realm like Source Filmmaker, but even then I have no clue about proper modelling, and the most I do is just edits of existing models. For example; a friend's recent submission put me in a mood for modular Bowser art. I didn't draw, but rather, animated something by chopping apart Bowser's model from Super Mario 3D World, and proceeding to animate it.
https://youtu.be/EtrGUc5-Blg
Pretty good, isn't it?
But the thing is, I really want to keep drawing active here. I want people to remember me by something, and think of me as a worthwhile artist. And I feel that if I don't put out content, people will forget me.
Should I just start over, make a more interesting character and go with a fetish people will actually watch? I notice this all the time; I get new watches from inflation/fat artists, when my prime stuff is modularity and I've only drawn such a thing maybe once or twice. And then there's people who get attention by drawing "modular" art, but it involves things like dicknecks or amputees. Is my content just trite and boring?
What should I do?
