Superhero Splash commissions?
Posted 13 years agoHey guys! I've been running this idea through my head for a few days and wanted some input.
I've been wanting to offer commissions like this image here - a colored sketch of your character/fursona/what-have-you as the superhero of your choice!
It's fun for me because I can be loose with the lines and colors, and awesome for commissioners because they get more input into their commissions than the presketch ones.
Also considering doing them via Livestreams, possibly with the mic on, so you'll be there every step of the way.
Price would be between $30-$40, depending on character/hero complexity.
So would anyone be interested in something like that? I'll be doing a Green Lantern image of Lady Z to time myself and provide a furry/female example, too.

Tips for giving up red meat? - EDIT

good job, everybody. go team!
BUT ON A SERIOUS NOTE, I'm going to attempt to cut red meat out of my diet. More for health reasons than anything.
Has anyone ever made the decision to give up red meat? Are their recipes/dishes you guys can recommend someone giving up red meat? Replacement foods?

I don't want to eat red meat anymore because it's 'unhealthy' - when I said I wanted to cut out red meat because of health reasons, I meant that it's part of my recovery from binge-eating disorder.
Red meat - beef, rather - is a trigger food for me. Consuming it makes me want to dive back into self-destructive binging behavior. Even the lean ground beef I've been using as substitute just makes me want the beef I ate before, so it's been nothing but detrimental to my recovery.
I'm going to try to switch to ground turkey and also start eating more wild fish. c: I've taken plenty of nutrition class - taught most recently by a doctor who is also a vegetarian - so I know most of the myths and facts about meat consumption from every conceivable angle.
I don't have any nutritional deficiencies, so I'm not terribly concerned about cutting out beef and pork. And I am going to begin seeing a physician when my medical insurance is reinstated, so no worries there!
But yeah! That's all. xD Didn't mean to trigger such a large debate down there!

- I (re-)joined a 12-step program.
- I have a wonderful sponsor that I report progress to everyday (or as close to it as I can get!)
- I've gotten lots of support and encouragement over on tumblr and it's been wonderful
- I've been abstinent for 9 whole days!
- I'm feeling shaky and unstable but hopeful, also.
Let's hope I can keep going!

This, combined with the fact that my "job", so to speak, is physical rehabiliation and fitness, has given me an opportunity to take on more work and help my family. So I'll be doing monthly commission deals! Read more below:
Once-Monthly Full CG Presketch Commissions

My mother's leg has been acting up a lot with her Restless Leg Syndrome so I've been trying to help her out around her house a lot and haven't had much time to work on art. I'm thumbnailing poses for commissions but that's the extent of things.
Also, on the 30th my dear sanurapanthress will be coming down for a week long visit! :D I don't know if I'll be able to work much while she's here so I'm just letting y'all know.
With that, I'm off to finish cleaning house. xD

They'll be done between the shading I have to do on two current commissions and one complete full CG commission. c: Need the money just to pad out the week I'm spending with my awesome pal next week. :D

Re: Openness about my depression and eating disorder
Posted 13 years agoSo over the past year or so, I’ve been talking a lot about my struggles with depression and the resulting eating disorder I developed to “cope”.
There are reasons for this. For one thing, I can no longer afford to seek professional counseling so I really feel like I have no one to talk to about it. There are few people I interact with on a daily basis who understand what it’s like to live with severe clinical depression, and less who share my particular eating disorder.
Since I’ve started posting journals and artwork related to my mental health, people have been wonderfully supportive. They even call me brave for coming out into the open with these issues.
I don’t know if I’d call it brave, really. It took a lot to get me to come out about my disease the first time, true, but since then it’s been easier.
There’s a stigma in our society today that sends the message that depression is something to be ashamed of. “Normal” people get along fine day-to-day, what’s the matter with than portion of the population that can barely drag themselves out of bed? Something’s wrong with them. They need help. They’re unhealthy.
And I was very ashamed of my thoughts, for a very long time. Refused to admit that I was anything but “occasionally sad”. That’s where my eating disorder came in. It offered solace, in its own damaging way. The shame I felt over being different manifested itself in a potentially fatal disease that has opened the door for a whole host of other dangerous physical diseases.
That’s why I write, and it’s why I draw.
While I still struggle with self-loathing and shame over my depression, I realize that I’m in a position to help others because I have many fans and followers.
I believe depression shouldn’t be locked away behind closed doors. If you are too ashamed to seek help, as I was for nearly ten years, there’s a good chance that you’ll turn to an unhealthy habit to cope with your feelings. My refusal to seek help about my depression is the reason I started binge-eating, and it’s the reason I started to self-mutilate.
If you feel depressed, or abuse substances or have thoughts of death or ending your life, I encourage you to talk about it. Fight back against the stigma society’s forced upon you. You have nothing to be ashamed of.
Of course, you don’t have to discuss it on a broad public forum like tumblr or dA if the thought makes you uncomfortable. I just want to share the message that if you feel like you might be depressed, you should let it out. Don’t let it fester inside. That just makes it worse.
So I thank everyone for their support and kind words and intelligent discussions.
I still battle my bad thoughts every day. I still occasionally binge and hurt myself. But talking about it helps. Trust me.

Posted 13 years agoGoing from a 40 minute, fairly intense elliptical workout to struggling to finish 5 minutes on a slow treadmill is detrimental to my self-esteem. Ow, my dignity.
