Commissions Update
General | Posted a year agoI'm down to one commission in queue,
Franco731's, but going forward I'm increasing my prices from $40 per 5,000 words to $20 per 1,000 words.
While trying to figure out whether I should or should not record this income on my weekly Unemployment claims it became abundantly clear that I was charging much less than minimum wage.
I'm also tempted to try streaming RimWorld, would anyone be interested in watching that? I have
SpotTea's species mods.

Now is not the time to panic
General | Posted a year agoI know that Dragoneer is gone now, but FA is an LLC, they are legally required to have a succession plan. Whoever takes over is unlikely to shut it down.
In any case though I have a profile on most sites colonized by the furry fandom found on my Carrd here: https://zarpaulus.carrd.co/ I recommend SoFurry or Cohost.

Laid Off
General | Posted a year agoWell, I've officially been laid off as of last Friday.
I almost wish they'd told us on Monday instead of just saying to stay home for the week because they couldn't afford to pay us. Then I wouldn't have needed to scramble to try to apply for unemployment and insurance "marketplace" on the weekend when nobody's in.
I'm still offering commissions, and seriously tempted to raise my prices given how long it took me to write the first one.
Commission Queue:
1. DomusVocis
2. Cody_Griswals
3. Gage

Semi-unemployed, commissions open
General | Posted a year agoDue to some combination of company issues and government finances, I can't work at my day job for at least the next week, possibly not for the rest of the month. Since I'm missing out on at least $514 I'm opening commissions for writing.
For $30 (USD) I'll write you a short story of up to 5,000 words, longer stories we can negotiate. For $20 I'll edit and proofread one of your stories of any (reasonable) length. Please, no cub, babyfur, or scat.
As a reminder, I also offer Ko-Fi https://ko-fi.com/zarpaulek and Patreon https://www.patreon.com/Zarpaulus subscriptions. I also offer subscriptions on DA https://www.deviantart.com/zarpaulus/subscriptions but that's going to close in a week unless I get enough subscribers to justify paying for Core.
In addition, three of my books are on sale this month on Smashwords thanks to their Summer/Winter sale https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/Zarpaulus and I have two more books on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/stores/Joel-Kreissman/author/B0BWQ18LWH
I also knit.

BlueSky (and Pillowfort) invite codes
General | Posted 2 years agoI have 5 invite codes to BlueSky, that site which appears to be the most successful Xitter alternative yet, and about 50 codes for Pillowfort, Tumblr's second-most successful imitator.
I'll send codes by PM, not openly.

Furry Book Month Bundle
General | Posted 2 years agoMy sci-fi novel Horizon: Salvaged Heroes was chosen for the Furry Writers Guild's 2023 Story Bundle.
https://furrywritersguild.gumroad.com/l/FurryBookMonthBundle
You can get it and eight other books by famed furry authors such as Frances Pauli and J. Daniel Phillips for just $10.
There's also an "18+" Bundle if your tastes are more inclined in that direction, I won't judge.

Joanna: Ghost Hunter video review
General | Posted 2 years agoAz the Library Owl has published a video review of Joanna: Ghost Hunter, go and watch it here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4kNn7T6LnY
Now, there's a couple assumptions that are a little off, the shadow's identity is a little more complicated than what he guessed. I was planning to reveal it in the next chapter and I'm actually starting to think I might need to do some quick rewrites.
I especially appreciate the call to action at the end. Me and Santiago both want this comic to succeed but it seems sometimes like nobody has noticed it.
So yes, go watch it, and be sure to subscribe to Az's channel and watch his other webcomic reviews.

I'm on Mastodon, while everyone else is going to BlueSky
General | Posted 2 years agoFor some reason it seems like everyone is fleeing the latest garbage fire on Twitter (I mean "X") by going to the site Twitter's old CEO made with the racism slider.
I don't have any plans to go there, instead I've been more active on the Mastodon account I started a while back https://wandering.shop/@zarpaulus
It's really not that difficult to use and it's not beholden to some Silicon Valley yahoos. Most servers (except the creepy ones) are federated with each other, that means you can follow people on other servers just by copying the link into the search bar on the site/app.

And just a reminder: I’ve still got two adopts I’m trying to get rid of https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10613281/

Selling Unused Adopts
General | Posted 2 years agoI could use some cash and I've got a bunch of adopts that I bought because they looked interesting and never used for anything, or much of anything.
I've gotten permission from the original artists to resell the ones listed here, prices are negotiable to a reasonable extent.
Dryad-fox from
Nightfaux, offspring of their character OMRS https://www.furaffinity.net/view/26567004/ $20
A demonic roobat from
Tierafoxglove https://www.furaffinity.net/view/23656884/ $30 including this pic https://www.furaffinity.net/view/29168495/
Male civet from
Hawkfang SOLD

General | Posted 2 years agoSo, I had a bit of a bad habit of collecting adoptable characters and then never using them in any stories or even commissions.
Right now I'm thinking of re-selling some of those characters that I never got around to using.
I can't remember what I paid for all of them, I'd probably just sell them for $30-40 apiece. There's at least a dozen of them.

Not Going Anywhere

Joanna Ghost Hunter on hiatus until further notice (aka c...
General | Posted 2 years agoI'm sorry to say this, but Martin aka Thiger has informed me that he won't be drawing any more pages of Joanna: Ghost Hunter. He's been having trouble at home and struggling with depression and said that he just couldn't continue with the comic anymore.
I respect his decision, and to be honest I've been having doubts as to whether the comic was worth it. I get barely any feedback or even signs that people are reading it, my Patreon hasn't garnered any new subscribers since it started, and it was expensive to commission.
So for the foreseeable future, Joanna: Ghost Hunter is being shelved and I'll be focusing on my prose stories. Maybe I'll find a new artist, or learn to draw myself, or I could try to adapt the script into a novel. I don't know at this point.

Ethane Horizons read on The Voice of Dog podcast
General | Posted 2 years agoOn today's episode of The Voice of Dog, Rob MacWolf read my story Ethane Horizons.
Listen here: https://thevoice.dog/episode/ethane-horizons-by-joel-kreissman
Ethane Horizons takes place between Horizon: Salvaged Heroes and Horizon: Rebuilt, it shows a bit of how Horizon is seen by the general population.
You can read the original story here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/46606866/
As a reminder I read my own stories on a monthly podcast of my own that just started Horizon: Rebuilt at https://open.spotify.com/show/5GHQVw7EIiILZZTnRhNF6K?si=7decb3e31c1548da&nd=1 though I admit Rob's voice sounds a lot better.

On Carrd
General | Posted 2 years agoI decided to go ahead and make a carrd compiling all the sites I'm on. While making the page I found that it was capable of hosting a bit more and added an author profile similar to the one THP made for me a while back on wix.
Carrd's a lot more user-friendly than wix, to say the least.
There's a short bio, info on my main projects, and links to a dozen or so sites at: https://zarpaulus.carrd.co/

New Watchers - Patreon Updates
General | Posted 3 years agoI've noticed a few new watchers lately, especially on Fur Affinity (possibly thanks to the ads), so I thought I might talk about my Patreon account and what's on there.
https://www.patreon.com/Zarpaulus
I have three writing projects running currently, which are posted to my Patreon account before they go public.
Joanna: Ghost Hunter is a furry urban fantasy webcomic illustrated on commission by Thiger_Art https://twitter.com/Thiger_art and updated publicly one page a week on Wednesdays. It follows a trans vixen and her friends as her amateur ghost hunting attempts lead them to get way in over their heads. As soon as Thiger sends me new pages I upload them to Patreon, I've also posted my chapter scripts as I write them.
Horizon: Salvaged Heroes, a furry science-fiction superhero serial fic currently on its second book (Rebuilt), which has been on hiatus for a few months. Set after the collapse of an interstellar federation, a raccoon salvage pilot stumbles upon a federal super soldier project, which converts her into a posthuman cyborg. Unable to resume her prior life she decides to use her new abilities to try and help the people of her fragmented star system. I can typically write a 2,000 word chapter over a weekend if I'm not busy with anything else, but unfortunately I haven't had any of those in a while. The whole of book 1 can be read on this site, RoyalRoad, or purchased in ebook or print format, while book 2 is roughly halfway through at ten chapters.
I have also been recording an audio version in podcast form on Anchor.fm (which exports to most podcatchers) and YouTube. I just uploaded ch. 14 to Patreon after a Covid-19 induced hiatus, which will be public on Friday. I will try to resume my prior "first Friday of the month" schedule now that my throat has largely recovered.
Lastly I have just started work on a LitRPG titled "Reincarnated as a Potion Brewer", about a chemist who dies and finds himself in a world that runs on RPG mechanics. This world recently defeated an evil necromancer, but he left behind a lot of dungeons full of treasure, and monsters, leading to a dungeon delving gold rush. The population of this world is a mix of "traditional" fantasy RPG species and furries, the main character is human at first but that may change in the future. I intend to use this story as a vehicle for exploring the socio-political ramifications of a dungeon-based economy. The first two chapters have been posted to Patreon, as soon as it gets to three I will begin posting chapters publicly once a week.
You can get early access to all of these for only $1 a month, plus access to my Discord server.

Horizon on Hiatus: con season
General | Posted 3 years agoSorry, I don't have a Horizon chapter for this week, I only have time to write on the weekends most of the time and usually I only manage 1,000 words a day or so. But I've started to feel a bit burnt out on this pace, I don't think I can keep it up much longer.
In addition this weekend I've got both the Furry Writer's Guild virtual convention: Oxfurred Comma, and the local gaming convention Gamehole Con. While next weekend is Aquatifur, where I'll be selling paperback copies of Horizon: Salvaged Heroes.
Rest assured, I'll get back to writing Horizon: Rebuilt in a month or so, normally I'd be attempting NaNoWriMo in a couple weeks but I might just chip away at Horizon.
The script for Joanna: Ghost Hunter is good for another dozen pages or so, as long as pages keep coming in from Martin it'll continue. I was planning on scripting the next chapter while at Aquatifur.
If you're in Wisconsin between October 28th and the 30th feel free to check out my booth at Aquatifur. I'll have all four of my books for sale, plus a few left over from Thurston Howl/Bound Tails.
