Happy Thanksgiving!

Z is for Zee-Zee
Posted 9 years ago"Look how clever I am!" Zee-Zee announced, tugging gently on Fiona's arm. "I know the whole alphabet and a cub for every letter! A is for Ari and B is for Bleu and C is for Cody and D is for Donney and E is for Everett and..."
The little squirrel paused at this point. Just before running over to Fiona he'd listened to the alphabet song and assumed he'd be able to remember the whole thing and think up a friend's name for each letter, but the song was quickly fading from his memory and he wasn't quite sure which letter came next. Fiona smiled and patted his head. "That's so clever, champ! Remember the next one? It's what my name starts with!"
"I knew that!" Zee-Zee beamed. "And Fee is for Fiona, and..." he looked around for inspiration, certain that if he couldn't quite remember the alphabet nobody else would, so they wouldn't know he was guessing. "Kaf is for Kaffre and Emj is for MJ and Tay is for Tavi and Oz is for Ozzie and Skip is for Skippy and Rap is for Raptor..." the alphabet was taking too long, he wanted to get to the big finish now, "... and there's lotsa other letters too and I know them all, and Y is for Yosh and I really know that one, and then Zee is for Zee-Zee and I'm the last in the alphabet! And that means I'm the cleverest!"

Old squirrel
Posted 9 years agoIt's my real-life 40th birthday tomorrow. Which is kind of weird, really - I don't feel old, though, so I'm sure if I check the calculations it'll turn out I'm only two-and-a-bit... ^.^
Look!
Posted 9 years agoLook look look! I can stand on one leg! Are you looking? You're not looking! Watch! I can wave my arms too and not fall over! And I can do a cartwheel! Look! *thunk* Well, I did it last time, when you weren't looking!
What's in the mail today?
Posted 9 years ago"Kaffre! Kaffre, look!" Zee-Zee squeaks, running to hug his kitten friend who'd just come around to play. "I got a real actual letter in the mail, all for me! With funny stamps on it and it's from Granddad who lives in England!" He showed Kaffre the envelope proudly.
"Oooooooh!" Kaffre squeaked with excitement and admiration. "It's really nice! What does it say?"
"I haven't opened it yet," said Zee-Zee, "I wanted you to go ooh at the envelope first."
Kaffre nodded, understanding perfectly. He was acknowledged as the daycare's expert at sounding genuinely thrilled and excited at other people's thrilling and exciting news; all the cubs came to him first when they'd got something to share. He wondered if he might be a professional ooh-er when he grew up. He watched with anticipation as Zee-Zee made an unusually perfunctory and half-hearted attempt to open the envelope, before giving up.
"I can't open it," said the squirrel, sounding strangely like he was reciting a scripted line. "Hey, Kaffre," he said, waving his hand in a way that he thought made him look casual, "can you open it with your eye lasers?"
Kaffre frowned. "I don't HAVE eye lasers!" he snapped, with a little kittenish growl. "I told you lotsa times, that was just one photo where the light reflected on my eyes and made them look shiny! I can't do lasers!"
"Hmmm," said Zee-Zee, still unconvinced that Kaffre wasn't hiding secret super powers from him. "How about your claws, then?"
"Ooh, I can do that!" Kaffre beamed, carefully slitting the envelope open with one of his little claws. Professional ooh-er AND letter-opener, he'd be so successful when he was a grown-up kitty! "What does it say?" he asked, as Zee-Zee took the letter out and studied it carefully.
"Um... I don't know," Zee-Zee admitted. Reading, especially strange grown-up handwriting that just looks like a scribble, wasn't a skill that the two little cubs had mastered yet. "Daddy's clever, let's ask him!"

All that playing tires you out!
Posted 9 years ago"Here he is," said Rose, handing over a sleeping squirrel to Zena. "All tuckered out after running around the garden with the other little ones all morning! He's been a perfect angel, same as always!"
Zena smiled and lifted Zee-Zee up to kiss his forehead before cuddling him gently in one arm. "He's getting too big to carry one-handed while I find my car keys!" she laughed, getting her keys out of her pocket before taking Zee-Zee's 'big squirrel not a diaper bag' bag with her other arm. "Did he use his potty?"
"Not quite," Rose chuckled. "He told me it was potty time and we hurried indoors, but we were just a little bit too late, poor little cub. We all told him well done for trying!"
"I'mma big boy now!" mumbled Zee-Zee, still fast asleep but managing to register that the grown-ups were talking about him.
"You certainly are, sweetie!" Zena laughed. "Come on now, let's head back for home... and maybe another new pull-up after naptime..." she added, feeling a little extra warmth in the crook of her arm.

Sonic Day! ... (makes me feel old)
Posted 9 years ago25 years since the original Sonic the Hedgehog game came out! And I look around the internet and see all these people celebrating it who weren't even BORN back then! That's the kind of thing that makes me feel like a grown up squirrel, not in a good way...
I was 14 in July 1991, although I didn't get a Mega Drive until Christmas that year, so I didn't play Sonic immediately - but I've been playing it for 24½ years, I've still got that Mega Drive and the original cartridge, as well as Sonic 2 and 3 and Knuckles, I'm gonna play them all again this weekend! Woooooo! ^.^

babystar pointed people to Furvilla, and it's a fun game! I'll probably get bored with it pretty quickly, and it is one of those things where you can pay real money to get cool stuff, which I don't like, but it's good fun to play about with for a little while! Join up and come and say hi! I'm Zee-Zee on there too. ^.^

Posted 9 years ago1. What is your name?
Zee-Zee! It says it right there! *points up* I mean, you could try calling me Ben, but nobody does that, I'd probably wonder who you were talking to.
2. What is your gender?
Boy-type squirrel!
3. How old are you?
Two and a bit! I sometimes pretend to be 39, but that just gets depressing.
4. How tall are you?
5'8", maybe more if I stand on tiptoes.
5. Where are you staying?
The cheap hotel at the airport. ^.^
6. What day are you getting there?
Friday night, after work.
7. Who will you be with?
All by myself...
8. Do you have art in the art show?
No, but I might draw on the walls...
9. What suit(s) will you have?
None - some time soon I really wanna get a proper Zee-Zee suit!
10. Can I dance with you?
Okay, but I'll only fall over and make us both look silly.
11. Can I touch you?
As long as it's in a nice way.
12. Can I talk to you?
Please do! By the way, why is "touch you" before "talk to you" and "hug you"? Is that the order people do these things in at cons?
13. Can I hug you?
Lots, please! ^.^
14. Can I take photos of you/with you?
If you wanna! Most people don't wanna...
15. Can I buy you lots of drinks?
Sure! I'll buy you lots in return.
16. Do you drink Alcohol/Smoke?
Drink yes, smoke no.
17. Can I give you lots of money?
I won't complain.
18. Can I hang out with you?
I'd appreciate it if you would! As mentioned, I'll be all on my own there otherwise.
19. How will I recognize you?
Bald head, beard, glasses... actually, there'll be a lot of people like that there. I'm that one you sort of think you've seen on TV somewhere but can't remember when. Then I say I'm the memory guy, and you say oh, you must have been thinking of someone else.
20. Where will you be most of the time during the con?
Wandering around aimlessly. There'll probably be a lot of looking at the pretty pictures and things.
21. Who are you rooming with?
Nobody, except Bartholomew the teddy.
22. Attending any events?
I haven't really decided yet. The Pawpets show for definite, Gem's scribble time, maybe poke my nose into the board game room...
23. How can I find you at the con?
Shout "Zee-Zee!" really loudly. Wave! Oh, and everyone, wear a badge with your name in big letters. I am the world's worst at remembering people, so if you come up to me and say "Hi, Zee-Zee!" I will be looking at your badge. Even if I've met you lots and lots of times before... ^.^
24. Are you doing anything in line with the theme?
Mmm, probably not, I haven't really got any carnivally clothes...

Sing a silly song, just to pass the time...
Posted 9 years ago"There was a man and he had nowt and robbers came to rob 'im..." sang Zed, cheerfully if not very tunefully as he bounced Zee-Zee on his knee.
"What's nowt?" Zee-Zee asked, poking his daddy's tummy to interrupt the song.
"Nowt means nothing," Zed explained with a smile.
"It's got to mean something or it wouldn't be in the song!" Zee-Zee protested.
"No no, it means the man didn't have anything!" laughed Zed.
"Why did they want to rob him, then?" queried Zee-Zee
"It's a nursery rhyme!" Zed said. "It doesn't have to make sense!"
"Sing the one about the wheels on the bus," Zee-Zee suggested. "I like that one!"
"Well, I like this one!" Zed insisted.
"There was a man and he had nowt and robbers came to rob 'im,
He climbed up to the chimney pot, and there they thought they had 'im,
But he got down on t'other side, and there they could not find 'im,
He ran fourteen miles in fifteen days and never looked behind 'im!"
"You'd think he could have got farther in that time," said Zena, leaning over the armchair to hand Zee-Zee his sippy cup. "And couldn't the robbers have just robbed his house while he was gone?"
"You're so literal!" Zed sighed. "I can see where Zee-Zee gets it from!"

Posted 9 years ago"Zee-Zee, don't pull your shirt down like that, you'll stretch it," said Rob the daycare fox.
"But if I don't pull it down over my shorts, you'll see I wet my pull-up!" Zee-Zee explained.
"Have you had an accident, Zee-Zee?" Rob grinned, bending down to check.
"How did you know?!" Zee-Zee gasped. Rob must have some kind of x-ray eyes to see through that shirt!
