The pursuit of and escape from solitude
General | Posted 13 years agoHope Cunningham is the last surviving Human in Post-apocalyptic Auckland. The daughter of trapped time travelers, she traveled with her parents to the year 3071 only to find that Humanity had destroyed itself. Refusing to commit suicide with her parents, Hope has spent eleven years on her own as a game hunter, refusing to go past the Seawall that separates the coastal forest from the actual city. When she finally does to escape a life of solitude, her world changes completely.
Sadrak Asza is one of the last surviving Posthumans in the galaxy. For 798 years he has served as a palanquin, a root personality of a body that holds the minds of multiple people. At one point, the co-inhabitants of his head had been some of the most important intellects of the Posthuman race. Now, thanks to mental degradation, they are gibbering madmen haunting Sadrak for the rest of eternity. After many futile attempts to end his life, Sadrak has now become slightly crazed and believes that contact with the rest of the survivors of the Posthuman race won't cure his affliction. He now resides on Tenos, a rogue gas giant that he believes symbolizes what he wants most: to be alone. But Sadrak isn't alone on Tenos.

Things I need to do before I start writing again
General | Posted 13 years ago-Read the Bardo Thodol(Tibetan Book of The Dead)
-find a photo database for a morgue if one exists somewhere in this world. I want to see the open eyes of the dead and from any time period. That's really important for me in order to write one of the characters I'm writing
-Read a few books, preferrably primary sources on the Vietnam War.
-Read some of the literary works Camus, Sabato, Bataille, etc.
-research Eastern Mysticism a little more deeply.

Mr. Nobody--a really, really good sci-fi flick
General | Posted 13 years agoThis is a wonderful film about the contradictory memories of the last mortal on Earth. It came out in Europe and so is relatively unknown here, but y'all can watch it in its entirety on youtube. It's also entirely in English.

General | Posted 13 years agoTied with Blade Runner that is. If you haven't seen the Fountain, you should see it. It's one of the most thematically rich and most beautifully executed films I have ever seen in my life. It's just perfection. I cry every time.

Critical essays on the furry fandom and its aspects, etc.
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm totally going to write some of these because I've told people I would.
however, I'd very much like suggestions on what specific topics to tackle.
I have many ideas, but I'd like some input.
I'm a very honest and very blunt man who at least thinks he has his priorities straight and so these won't be childish or nothing.

General | Posted 13 years agoHypothetical disorders of the mind
General | Posted 13 years agoI want to have a disorder where I forget every noun except the names of the first 151 Pokemon, things related to Pokemon, and the original Pokemon types and in order to communicate, I have to relate things to Pokemon. So on my death bed, I'll refer to my three hypothetical kids as Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur. I'd be the greatest dad ever.

My new fursona is called Xoc(pronounced shock) which means fish or shark in Yucatec Maya. I can't think of a personality for him, but it'll come in time.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9138376/On virginity
General | Posted 13 years agoTime to go on one of my little rants again! I get really frustrated when people address an issue by claiming "Come back and talk to me when you've gotten laid!" The social expectations regarding getting laid in order to be validated as an "adult" is complete and utter bullshit. The idea that virginity in adulthood is inadequacy just goes to show how the whole "Human beings are more advanced and nuanced mentally than animals" argument carries no weight when our people have very basic priorities like this that cannot be overridden by higher mental processes.
I haven't lost my virginity not because I haven't had the opportunity to do so but because the opportunities that have been afforded to me have never felt quite right. I've been out of the closet for a year now like I've said a million time before. Non-hetero guys have a tendency to be very blunt in their sexual advances towards other men, so these opportunities have been very, very apparent to me. The reason why I never agree to anything on the basis of being friends is that impulsive sex with friends is really awkward from what I have gathered. I really don't have to experience something firsthand when pretty much just about everyone who I can respect who I have heard talk about it has stated that it's really just awkward when you get peer-pressured to have sex with someone and you're really just not into it. It's like being peer-pressured into your first kiss, one of the things I personally have experienced.
In this particular case, don't let people tell you who to be. Do what you want, but peer pressure is literally the shittiest and I'd personally avoid it because avoiding it makes life easier in the long term.

Star Wars
General | Posted 13 years agoPeople who know me just a teensy bit well know that Star Wars is my favorite movie franchise ever and has impacted the course of my life heavily. It's been a presence in my life since I was 2 or three. You'd think something from that far back wouldn't stay with me, but I like Star Wars as much as an adult as I did as a toddler. Star Wars is
And so I heard that Disney acquired Lucasfilm today and that they want to do a sequel trilogy. I should be happy. Lucas is old and he wasn't going to make those movies better than he made the prequels. They were going to be trash either way. Well, people were all butthurt about Marvel being bought out. It didn't change much. Marvel was still Marvel. Except for Avengers cuz fuck Avengers.
Now I know sort of how those twenty somethings felt as they waited for the release of The Phantom Menace. I totally get it. I'm really disappointed that they're likely going to invalidate the Thrawn Trilogy and Legacy, but also I'm kind of excited. I was really butthurt 30 minutes ago but I don't know. I'll keep my judgement steady til the details of the time period and the plot are released. I so hope this movie isn't just to sell toys and to pander to one or two specific interest groups and I really hope it has a plot.

General | Posted 13 years agoThe Phoenix in The Wood
General | Posted 13 years ago"The only thing we really want in our lives is purpose. A purpose is something I've never had until now. Ever since dad died, I haven't had any ambitions. I was alive but that really was it. But now I do indeed have a purpose. I might not have the most conventional purpose, but I've unwillingly carved myself a life from the death of another human being. I lie to his sister and I lie to his kids to preserve my purpose. I tell them that I've never met Jordan before. But I have met Jordan. We were close friends. You really can't get more intimate with a person than as his executioner."
--Darren Carmichael
"The Phoenix in The Wood" is a novella or novel that I am planning out currently. It's about a guy named Darren Carmichael who hits and kills a writer named Jordan Landon as Jordan wanders a dark, wooded stretch of interstate in rural Washington searching for a call box to get his car towed. Darren, unwilling to accept that he is now an unwilling murderer, dumps Jordan's body in the woods, taking Jordan's wallet and keys with him. Learning his identity, Darren becomes obsessed with Jordan and tries to redeem himself by caring for his grieving family.
It's taking priority over The Fold right now only because there really doesn't have to be much research done to write it. But yeah.

Elliott's/Furloween report
General | Posted 13 years agoI enjoyed Elliotts and Furloween. I might actually have a reference level as far as events and cons in the fandom go, but the events were good and y'all peeps where really fine. I hope we can continue this relationship where I constantly deny your basic human rights you stupid filthy people. But srsly, everyone in the furry fandom needs to take a bath. RIGHT THE FUCK NOW.
I got to spend the weekend with some of my best friends which is always good and like, Elliotts had fucking Gauntlet II which now might be my favorite arcade game ever. Also, fuck tollbooths. Orlando needs to quit being a gayman's paradise of tollbooths, it's ridiculous.
I hung out with
pretty much the whole time at Elliott's. I also kind of dressed up as a Jedi for the first time in ages. That's a thing. Tried getting a new badge, but that didn't work out. I already mentioned mr. Sergalman445 from Furloween being the most aggravating thing in the universe.
EFF also gave birth to what may be the most kawaii desu doki doki shiteru ainenzo relationship in the furry fandom since Elub and Vibby in the form of my hotel roommates
and
. Congrats you two you angelic baby orangutans. So shout outs to them for being bebes sedientos.
I took some videos but they're all really short. Kind of put one of them in the last journal.
Listen to me organize the live burial of CHILDREN. I play the harsh ten year old slave driver, pillow fort architect.

BE SAFE FROM THE HURRICANE, OKAY?Fuck Weasyl/ the journal where I vent about things I hate
General | Posted 13 years agoEveryone needs to calm their tits about weasyl whether they think it's the killer app, a cur, or whether they want an invite or are giving out invites. Like seriously. You guys are drowning my journal archive. I'm the center of the universe.
Also, that Furoticon online game got funded on kickstarter 113%. That sounds modest for a project like that that many in the fandom would approve of(not including me). And then you take into account the fact that 113% equals $28,365 with 165 supporters last I checked
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
That's an average of like 100 and something dollars a person. Otherwise, this game has an enigmatic benefactor. Which is the fucking scariest. But that people would prioritize something like this just kills me inside. And what the fuck? Why would they need that much money? Are they releasing Furoticon the app and the DS game too? WHAT THE FUCK
I came back from Orlando earlier today. Totally hit up Elliott's and Furloween, though in retrospect, Elliotts was better because of Gauntlet. But that's what always affects my opinion of cons: the presence of a Gauntlet game.
Some fucking dingus at Furloween was watching this girl draw him a badge of his Sergal character. JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, he wouldn't stop boasting how Sergals were the most perfect things in the universe and how hard they are to draw(he's not even an artist), which evidences how perfect they allegedly are. He literally wouldn't stop talking about Sergals for like 30 fucking minutes.
Also, I took a video of
and
at Elliotts and it's good, it's great and I needed to show you guys.

Fuck America, that shit is gayGood movies with good soundtracks
General | Posted 13 years agoThe Fountain is probably tied as my favorite movie with Blade Runner and is definitely my favorite soundtrack ever. If you ever want to see me cry like a little bitch irl, you best turn on The Fountain or any of the songs from the Fountain.
https://youtu.be/vr0NBPRMe2E
the remake of Solaris had amazing fucking music. It might have not been the best movie, but dear god. The former drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers is an amazing fucking composer and you should check out all of his stuff. He also did the music for Drive and stuff, but I like his Solaris stuff the best.
https://youtu.be/S5Qw9ANrbIg
Moon is also totally scored by Clint Mansell and the soundtrack is terrific. This is also one of my top 5 favorite films and you should definitely see it. The music for moon inspired me to teach myself to play piano and I've been playing now for about 2 and a half years.
https://youtu.be/bIIA3NKqebg

Gattaca is probably the newest film that I jerk off to. I only saw it the other day, and while I didn't enjoy it that much watching it, it left an impression on me and I thought about it non-stop for a couple of days and realized how much I actually really liked it. Michael Nyman composed the soundtrack, Nyman of course being a godfather of minimalistic music(he came up with the term) and an inspiration to me as a minimal pianist.
https://youtu.be/26-migpeVJM 2 people need rooms for Elliotts/furloween
General | Posted 13 years agoI've got two friends who most likely need rooms for Elliott.

I was originally going to take them, but I really can't, so. They're not acquaintances or going together, so if you can take just one, do that but contact them about it. As far as I know, they both just need a place to crash on saturday.
