Brief Life Update
Posted 5 years agoHey, long time, no see. Time for an update on what the heck I’ve been up to.
1. Graduated with my BFA in Graphic Design at the end of December. Whoo!
2. Now, looking for a steady job, so I can continue to pay bills and eat food.
3. Managing my mental health.
(Number 2 and 3 are a full time job on their own, but hey, I’ll get there)
Now, what I WANT to start doing a.k.a. Goals:
1. Upload some art from school and holidays that I think folks here might like.
2. Open commissions? Would anyone be interested?
3. Start being more social. (we’ll see if this actually happens ^^; )
4. ???
5. Profit.

Back to School? Huh?!
Posted 7 years agoSo I don’t think I’ve mentioned this to a lot of people aside from IRL friends and family. I went back to school. I’ve actually been back in school for a little over a year, and I have a little over a year to go. It’s kept me super busy! Especially since I’m going full-time, and doing the accelerated summer and winter mini-mesters.
It’s been tough, and very stressful (honestly, I’m a mess), but I’m hoping it’s going to pay off in the long run.
I’ve got a tiny break right now, so I wanted to leave this update here for anyone who might be curious as to why I’m not posting art for months at a time.
I’m back at it next week (8/27/18), so I’ll probably disappear again. Sorry ‘bout that, but I gotta focus. I realize how lucky I am to be able to go back to school, so I’m taking my education very seriously.

Goodbye Gene Catlow
Posted 8 years agoI found out this morning that Albert Temple,
genecatlow, has passed away. It was a shock.
Unfortunately, I didn't know him personally. We only spoke a couple of times, through comments here on FA. But he was always pleasant and funny, and just an all around nice fellow. Heck, when I received comments from him, I always felt honored, and a little star stuck. :p
Even though we never met, he was definitely an inspiration to me. Gene Catlow, was one the first webcomics I started reading regularly, when I first got into the furry fandom.
I still love his artwork, and I appreciate how positive and upbeat his characters always were. I regret not telling him so.
My condolences to all of his friends and family.

Sing
Posted 8 years agoI went to see "Sing" today. Loved it!
Diverse cast of characters. I found Meena to be really relatable (shyness powers, activate! Form of, an introvert!). I loved Ash and Johnny. And Rosita could be a freaking engineer or something!
Really good collection of music. Seemed like there was something for everybody.
The car wash scene was way more awkward than I thought it was going to be. But overall I really enjoyed the story, and the way things came together.
I'm kinda surprised I didn't see more hype over this movie from the furry fandom. I realize it's not Zootopia, but still, it was a really nice and fun movie.

What Should I Charge for this Commission
Posted 8 years agoThe Dilemma:
I'm looking for opinions on what to charge for a specific commission. It's an unusual situation, since I don't normally get commissions for more than a single character.
Can anyone give me some insight?
In a Nutshell:
- 6 character group picture, full body
- 5 of 6 are new characters that need designs
- Most likely flat-color
- Probably simple or single color background
The Story:
The commissioner is the owner of a small sign shop. My roommate works at the shop, and I've done odd jobs (non-art related) for them before. The owner wants a color drawing of the 6 employees of the shop, as anthro characters, to display on the shop's website. And while I have an existing character for my roomie, I would have to design the other 5 characters.
Other Factors:
The owner has invited me to the office Christmas party at a fairly nice restaurant, where he will pay for food and drinks. I don't want to seem mean or ungrateful by charging a high price for my work, after he's paid for my meal and drink(s). He invited me weeks before asking about the commission, but I can't help but factor this in.
Thoughts?

Inktober Update
Posted 9 years agoHey guys,
Inktober has been fun, but I'm planning to drop it for the remainder of the month. I got behind. Missed day 23, 24, and 26 through today.
Also, I have a Halloween picture that I've just started inking, and I want to have it done by, y'know, Halloween.
So I WILL be inking, and you will see the result soon. I just won't be posting until the end of the month.

What the heck is Inktober
Posted 9 years agoI've seen a lot of people participating in Inktober this year, which is great! ^^ But I've also seen a lot of people asking "What is all this Inktober busniess?"
I figured I'd help to spread the word, since I was unclear on the rules until recently.
When I was wondering about Inktober, I found this short, sweet, to the point video, explaining just that:
In a nut shell,
1. Draw something in ink every day in October
2. Post it online
3. Tag it "#inktober"
3.5. Also there are official (and unofficial) prompts, but you don't have to use them if you don't want to.
Which is the short version of what the video says.

It never hurts to help.

About All the FanArt
Posted 9 years agoHey, I just wanted to ask my watchers, is it ok with you guys that I'm posting mostly fanart, instead of my own characters, recently?
Just asking because, for the longest time, I rarely used to draw fanart, and now it's covering my user page.
Fanart has just been a really good outlet for me, lately. It's pretty cathartic.
Plus, most of my other recent drawings are for a comic book that the_enot and I are doing. I probably shouldn't post those here. At least not yet?
Anyway, I haven't had complaints or anything. I'm just curious about opinions.

I'm an adult and I love toys!
Posted 9 years agoHappy Birthday to me! Probably should have posted a journal earlier in the day. Whoops.
It's been one of the most relaxed birthdays I've had in years. Which has been great. I was actually dreading my birthday, since last year it seemed like everybody wanted a piece of me. Which was very nice in theory, but very stressful in practice.
I mostly got group gifts this year.
My local friends got me a remote controlled BB8, which I'd been coveting, but would never buy for myself. It's so cute and round! They also got me a t-shirt with the Ninja Turtles drawn in the Powerpuff Girls style. ^^ Coincidentally, also cute and round.
My family all pitched in and got me a Wii U. :D
And I know
the_enot insisted on sending me a Wii U game, but I don't know which one yet.
I am a grown ass adult! I am adulting so hard, you guys!

Business Man meets Furries
Posted 10 years agoI just remembered a story I wanted to share months ago, then promptly forgot. Wompwomp.
So back at the beginning of September, I was at work, sitting in my cube, when my manager shows up. He's a friendly guy; comes around and says "Good morning" to everyone most days. He'd just returned from a business trip. He stops at my cube and says, "Hey, you like conventions, right?" He's heard me talking about Baltimore Comic Con before. I confirm this. He says, "Have you ever heard of, uh, furry con?" I'm cracking up on the inside, but I keep a straight face and say, "Yeah, I think I've heard of something like that." He goes on talking about the fursuiters, which he calls mascots, in the lobby of his hotel, and shows me some pictures he took. It was kinda cool. He was definitely looking at the furries as a spectacle, but he was amused and curious, not put off. I'm glad not everyone sees furries as a bunch of crazy, sexual deviants anymore.
So I asked him where he went for this business trip. I wanted to find out what con it was. I doubt there is a con out there that is just called "Furry Con." But I couldn't just ask because, 1) he wouldn't know, and 2) while I appreciate the accepting attitude, I'm still not letting my co-workers know I'm a furry. He said he was in Minneapolis, so as soon as he walked away, the magic google machine revealed the convention to me. So, yeah, my manager briefly experienced Furry Migration.

Baltimore Comic Con Report
Posted 10 years agoWell, a short report anyway.
So, like I said,
the_enot and I went to Baltimore Comic Con this past weekend. We were selling our comic book, The Cat Maiden. We had a great time! And we sold 30 copies! (which is 30 more than I thought we would sell.) For a couple of no-name first-timers, that is stellar! It helped that we were in the Kids Love Comics area. They're a great group, supper nice. I'm glad we got to sit with them. (Even if the one bringing us our books freaked us out by running late ^^;)
I think we have 2 factors to thank for the sales. 1) The Kids Love Comics group, since kids were our target audience, and 2) The_Enot's ability to talk to anyone, even across a crowded aisle! So helpful! Seriously. ^^
For our first venture into the world of selling our stuff at conventions, I'll call it a success! =D

Got a Comic for Baltimore Comic Con
Posted 10 years agoHi! Long time, no see. I've been busy for the past several months working on a comic book that my friend,
the_enot and I were creating. She did the story and lettering, and I did the art.
It's an updated, anthropomorphic version of the Aesop's Fable, The Cat Maiden.
We'll be selling our comic "The Cat Maiden" at Baltimore Comic Con this weekend, Sept 25-27. We're at table #3033 in the Kids Love Comics pavilion. If you're in town, come visit us!

Good-bye Hemi
Posted 10 years agoI've been trying to write this for the past two weeks. Couldn't make myself do it until now.
On Friday, June 19th, my family and I took my cat, Hemi, to the vet and had him put down. He had been getting sick for about a year, and in that time, we had been to 2 veterinary clinics, the pet ER, and a specialist. It became obvious that he was suffering and the medicine was no longer helping. The vets never did find out what exactly went wrong. They told me his pancreas was failing, but we don't know the cause, and the treatments weren't helping. He refused to eat or drink at all for the last few days.
Everyone kept telling me I did everything I could, and this was the right decision. I believe that, but it was still so hard to go through with it. He was only 8 years old.
The vet made an impression of his paw print. I really liked that. And my friends and family helped me bury him and ended up giving him a small funeral.
I'm sad that he's gone, but I'm glad he's not suffering anymore.

Time for Selfish Complaining!
Posted 10 years agoI should really be in bed right now. But I'm all stressed out.
Two of my good friends are getting married. The rehearsal is tomorrow, then the wedding is on Saturday. Both of these are going to take all day. I'm happy for them and all. Really. But I am not used to being social for such long periods of time. ><

Another Year Older
Posted 10 years agoWhoo! I made it through another rotation around the sun!
It's been a pretty good day so far. Except for the splitting headache that showed up an hour ago to say, "Happy Birthday! I'm here to f*ck up your evening plans."
But I just took some good meds. Hopefully, that will help.
Edit: Headache gone! Turns out I just really needed a good meal. ^^;

St Patrick's Day and a quick update
Posted 10 years agoHappy St. Patrick's Day! (even though it's almost over)
Wow, I just realized how little artwork I've posted in the past year. My St. Pat's day pic from last year is still on my front page. Yikes.
I really hope to post more stuff soon. I was admittedly in a bad mental state for a while, and my worst creative slump to date. But I've started a few projects to kick my butt into gear, and I hope to be able to share, at least, some of them soon.
So, how are you doing? ^^

Happy Howloween!
Posted 11 years agoEr, Happy Halloween, that is.
So this whole month (actually longer) has been crazy busy! I was a little disappointed that I didn't have enough down time to draw my usual group picture with all of my characters dressed up as other characters. But oh well, there's always next year, which should be easier, since I won't have the move to deal with (I hope).
And I did get to debut my new character, Pumpkin the Halloween Husky. Yay!
As much as I love Halloween, it's about time I got a Halloween themed character. =P

Pumpkin
Posted 11 years agoJust got back from Anime USA in Washington, DC.
So tired! But I had a lot of fun. Went to panels, bought neat stuff, ate (mostly) good food, and hung out with friends. A successful trip, as far as I'm concerned.
I just wanted to mention my favorite part of this con.
I got to wear my fursuit, Pumpkin the Halloween Husky, for the first time! Yay! ^^ There will be pictures, once I remind my friends to send them to me. It was so cool. Some people stopped me to take pictures. I got some high fives. My non-furry friends were very encouraging and accommodating. It was pretty hard to see, so two of my friends walked around me like bodyguards. X3
There were a lot more furries at the convention than I had expected. And a lot of folks who were not furries liked my suit, too.
It was a great experience. I can't wait to wear Pumpkin again on Halloween. :)
Ok, time to crash for a while.

Life'n'stuff
Posted 11 years agoI'm so nervous. And excited. I'm nervou-cited!
So much crazy stuff is going on!
- Tomorrow (actually today, since it's after midnight. I should sleep), I'm moving out of my mom's house for the first time since 2008. And I'm moving into an apartment with a roommate for the first time EVER.
- I'm getting my first ever fursuit soon (courtesy of
KellsterKitten)
- I'm going to have a table at Baltimore Comic Con for the first time ever, in 2015 (mainly writing that down, so I don't chicken out, like every other year)
It's crazy. It's exciting! It's nerve-wracking. o.o
