Fur The More, who else is going?
Posted 11 years agoCome on, come on, who can I look forward to seeing there? I gotta' make a must-meet list sometime so don't be shy!
SNOW DAY!
Posted 11 years agoLooks like this snowstorm is good for something after all. At least I don't have to drive anywhere in this mess today.
I can use the extra time to work on my character for this weekend's game night that may or may not happen depending on the weather. We're trying out the "Star Wars: Edge of the Empire" roleplaying game. Party needs a pilot so I think I'll go with a Dug Smuggler.

Watcha doin'?
Posted 12 years agoFur the More is a go. I look forward to having something break up the monotony that is the month of March. And in other news I'm rediscovering the joys of Mario Golf on the Wii's Virtual Console. I really liked the N64 version, never could really get into the Gamecube one.
And I've been considering getting a Vita, mainly since the HD remake of FF X/X-2 is intriguing me. Especially X-2. Cheesy fanservice aside I do love Final Fantasy games that have great job systems. That's why I love FF V and Tactics A2 so much. I also love Tactics A2 because of the Bangaa and the Seeq races. FF III had a job system but I played the DS demake, and it was a poor attempt at an update. Vancian spellcasting and JRPG random encounters are mechanics that should never, EVER, meet.
Speaking of Vancian spellcasting, I'm plotting a custom adventure for my Pathfinder group. For inspiration I'm drawing from FF XII, Skies of Arcadia, Baten Kaitos, and Bioshock: Infinite. Yes, I am in fact dreaming of the sky on this one. The current adventure we're playing through is one I'm enjoying, thanks to the minotaur magus character I'm playing. He's a bull whose details I need to flesh out more.
Well this journal really got away from me. Sort of a stream of consciousness thing going on here. I'd better stop before this train of thought jumps the track.A Multilingual "Let it Go"
Posted 12 years agoI still really want to see 'Frozen' but just haven't had the opportunity/found anyone else around me interested in going. But you can bet once it's On Demand I'll watch the crap out of it. Why the enthusiasm? It's mainly due to that song that seems to have gone viral, 'Let it Go.' Original version here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moSFlvxnbgk
But then
furnygma shared something I found neat, that song as it cycles through 25 different languages: http://www.buzzfeed.com/jarettwiese.....n-25-languages
And since I only speak 1.05 of the langauges featured therein (I've forgotten most of my Spanish classes by this point), I figured I'd share it here. I am curious if the translated lyrics actually mean (or are close enough to) the original.

Well that's awkward
Posted 12 years agoSeems Anthrocon followed me on Twitter. Anthrocon followed me on Twitter near the start of the year in which I decide to give Anthrocon a pass in favor trying out Fur the More. I feel like I'm cyber-cheating somehow.
But yeah, going to skip Pittsburgh in 2014, saving myself that drive across the width of Pennsylvania. Baltimore is far closer. Going to try that out, along with FA United, and whatever con ends up being the second coming of FurFright.

Happy New Year! And MAGFest!
Posted 12 years agoJust wishing everyone a happy and prosperous 2014!
Didn't do anything special last night or today, but now I'm packing for MAGFest. Planning to leave right from work tomorrow, both to beat the snow they're forecasting and to make it to my layover point in Baltimore. From there we're going to arrive Friday morning at some point depending on weather and traffic.
I'll more than likely be the guy hanging out next to the world's shortest Pyramid Head cosplayer.

Quick Holiday Greeting

Just finished Link Between Worlds
Posted 12 years agoAnd my final verdict on the game is that it is really, really good. I put it on the same tier as Link's Awakening and the two oracle games. Not as amazing as Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, or Wind Waker. But it's nowhere near as frustratingly bad as Skyward Sword. I mean, the controls worked when I wanted them and did what I wanted to do, so that alone elevated Link Between Worlds way ahead of the last three games in the series.
I enjoyed it enough that I decided to ignore the nagging little questions that arose out the perplexing cosmology. So Lorule looks like the Dark World, sounds like the Dark World, has the same flora and fauna as the Dark World, but isn't the Dark World. So is this a coexistent plane like DnD's Plane of Shadow? Ooh! Or is it a different timelime? Same world, just with different histories, like Bioshock: Infinite? Will Elizabeth and Booker show up? Will the Doctor?
Seriously, bringing Doctor in solves every problem. Well, every problem that can be solved with a sonic screwdriver and a fez. I've completely gone off topic again, haven't I? I don't care, now I'm all hung up imagining what would happen if Link and Zelda were the Doctor's companions.

But now for something completely self-centered
Posted 12 years agoDecided to make two separate journals, letting that previous one be a heartfelt expression of sadness at seeing FurFright end. But now I get to discuss my 2014 convention plans.
I guess I'm a (very, tiny, please don't hurl rocks at me for saying this) little relieved that there won't be a FurFright to go to in 2014. It was a trifle nerve-wracking worrying about snagging a room at the Crowne Plaza. That's an incredibly minor shared of stress I won't have to encounter.
Why yes, I am trying very hard to find a silver lining to FurFright's end. This desperate grasp at rationalizing the situation is keeping me from dwelling on never being able to go to my favorite convention again.
I was planning on shaking up my plans for 2014, mainly giving Anthrocon a pass and checking out Fur the More instead. Congratulations, Pittsburgh, you survive, for AC is back on the table. I suppose that makes things easy, getting a decent hotel room has never been a problem for Anthrocon, or for FA United for that matter.
And that means that the next convention on my radar is Fur the More, well, next fur con. The actual next convention on my horizon is MAGFest.

On the passing of one of the greatest cons
Posted 12 years agoI am bummed, really, really bummed out, that 2013 turned out to be FurFright's final year. I never got around to writing a proper convention recap journal, but believe me when I say that FurFright 2013 was as close to absolute perfection as can be achieved. The hotel, the people, the lack of 4am fire alarms and impending hurricanes., and the general atmosphere. Of all the cons I've been to, nothing else has hit the perfect and elusive gestalt of size and intimacy of FurFright.
I want to thank everyone who worked on that convention, who helped make FurFright immensely entertaining. It will be dearly missed.

Random Artist Spotlight!
Posted 12 years agoBecause why not, right? Here goes, a little bit of artist pimping, out of the blue.
I love satyrs, always have. Even more now that Vinden's a part-time goat-man. And
SurrenderDorothy draws some lovely ones.
And we must all celebrate the return of the Empress of Beefcake. That's right!

The Fur Fright Meme: 2013 Edition!
Posted 12 years agoWow, hard to believe I'll be taking that long drive up the length of NJ, across the Hudson, and into the eerie, mist-shrouded reaches of Connecticut. Yeah, everything gets immediately creepier as soon as you cross into new England proper. Makes me think that H. P. Lovecraft was actually writing travelogues all that time and they were mistaken for horror stories. Innsmouthe was really just his favorite seaside resort.
Anyway, enough recycling jokes from Twitter, onto the meme!
When will you be arriving?
On Thursday, in the afternoon.
How long are you staying?
Until Monday, unless any hurricanes want to force me to leave before I'm ready. I'm watching you Atlantic Ocean, just because you're a large body of water don't think I won't shank you if you spawn another storm.
Where are you staying?
At the Crowne Plaza. Because I like to be able to walk right down into the party area without having to put real shoes or pants on. Also easier when schlepping my game satchels down to the gaming room.
Are you friendly?
I'd like to think so. Always up to game with new people. Just ask before attempting to hug me. Coming on too strongly just freaks me the hell out.
Can I buy you drinks?
You can, but there's little guarantee I'll consume them.
Can I invite you out for food or the like?
Sure! Despite my efforts I remain reliant on ingesting nutrients.
I thank that about covers all the important stuff. So now who can I look forward to seeing next week?

IT'S MORPHIN' TIME
Posted 12 years ago...I totally didn't just shout that out when my Charizard Mega-Evolved for the first time.
I shouted 'Henshin-a-go-go!' instead.

I live!
Posted 12 years agoYes! My laptop was fixed and is now back up and running. Oh actual keyboard, how I've missed you.
Oh, and since now feels like an apt time to ask, who's all going to FurFright? I need to compile my list people of people in dire need of a minotaur's embrace.
And in other great news, my friend who was doing a year's stint as a civilian contractor in Afghanistan is home! Now hopefully we can get our Pathfinder group going again. He wants to run the horror campaign set in the Transylvania-styled region. Kind of want to play a gnoll because gnolls are awesome (not mechanically but, come on, they're hyenas. And hyenas are adorable).
Also want to choose a class and feats that'll let me use a whip or spiked chain. Because how can I resist the urge to make this into a tabletop version of Castlevania?
....I'll ask everyone at the table to refer to me as 'Belmont.'

How about those Pocket Monsters?
Posted 12 years agoI saw Mega Charizard X.
I think I fell in love with the design.
I'll be getting Pokémon X version now.
Though I'm still holding out hope that Venusaur gets another Mega Evolution that doesn't suck as much as its currently revealed form. Seriously, Thick Fat aside adding a flower to the thing's head does not a Mega Form make.

Ask Me Stuff!
Posted 12 years agoIt's been about three months since I last did this, and I've been so busy since then I need to do something to break the silence around here. So hit me with queries and I'll dispense answers, more than likely after I get home from work tonight.
Time for the FAU Meme!
Posted 12 years agoFAU happens at the end of the week so I'd better get this down now.
How do you want to be addressed?
Zig, Ziggy, Zigzag, hey you with the face, etc.
Where are you staying?
At the Marriot.
Who will you be with?
Confirmed
corvuspointer and
sexmuffin some of the time.
Can I talk to you?
Yes, unless you possess telepathy, then I wanna' try some of that.
Can I touch you?
Nowhere I have to show the courtroom with a doll.
Can I hug you?
Ask first. Non-solicited huggers get trampled.
Are you nice?
Nice enough I suppose.
Are you friendly?
I won't stab you, if that's what you're afraid of.
What days will you be attending?
Due to a scheduling conflict at my job I'll only be there Saturday and Sunday. So no fun on Friday, okay? I don't want to miss things.
Can I invite you out for food/fun/etc?
Please do. I ever so hungry...
Can I take pictures with you?
Uh, sure.
How can I contact you?
Cell number if you have it.

I'm a bull!
Posted 12 years agoBUT WHAT IF I WASN’T?!
Saw
makootter do this so I figured I'd give it a go.
So two questions everyone:
1) Do you think my species (bull) fits me?
And
2) If you could assign a different (not bull) species for me based on the way you see me, what would I be?
Don’t feel the need to limit your recommendations to actually existent species, fictitious creatures and species drawn from fiction are fair game, as are hybrids!

FA United, Good News and Bad News
Posted 12 years agoFirst the good, I'm still going.
Next, the bad, thanks to bad scheduling, I have to work that Friday. And rather than try to race to the con that evening only to arrive too late for anything, I've decided to arrive Saturday morning. Still get two of the three days.
Still, Fur Fright's plans are set. And I still have space for roommates. Just hope I don't run into any more scheduling mishaps. Or hurricanes. Or 4am fire alarms.

Now for something 'Legend of Zelda' related
Posted 12 years agoI've been playing through 'Oracle of Seasons' again, this time on the 3DS. 'The Legend of Zelda' may just be the only game series out there I don't mind re-buying new releases of. Seriously, I've gotten Ocarina of Time five times now, the original N64 cartridge, the Master Quest release for the Gamecube when I preordered Wind Waker, the Collector's Edition, the Virtual Console version, and the 3DS upgrade. Although I don't see the point of making an HD remake of Wind Waker for the Wii U. I mean, Wind Waker is the one Zelda game that can never look old due to its cel-shaded graphics. But I digress.
When the Oracle games were released waaaaaaay back in the primeval year of 2001 I wasn't really into the whole furry or transformation thing yet. But I did remember liking the whole ring aspect of the games. In "Oracles," Link goes all Bilbo Baggins by finding a variety of enchanted rings. There were a small number of rings that changed the Hylian Hero's form into that of a moblin, octorok, like-like, and a Subrosian (an Underdark resident that resembled the secret love child of Black Mage and a Shy Guy).
So the rings didn't really do anything beside change your appearance. Actually, they did less than nothing as you couldn't interact with anything or use any items or attack... but it was still a nice touch. And on that note, I wonder if, floating somewhere out there in the ethers of the Net, there isn't TF art based on the Oracle games. Link donning a ring and turning into a moblin, one of Ganon's minions, sounds like a devious scenario, especially if the ring can't be removed.
Heck, to be even darker, consider the consequences of wearing the Like-Like ring. Assuming it's a real TF and not an illusion, Link turns into what is essentially a landbound anemone, something without arms. So the ring melds into his new form and can't be removed. How does the Hero save the day if he's reduced to a vore-fetishist's wet dream?
Yes, these are the random thoughts that stampede through my head sometimes.
