What do you want to see from me next?
General | Posted 5 years agoI'll be finished the Korongo story soon, and whilst there are more stories to tell in that world, I don't necessarily need to write those next.
So, with that in mind, what kind of stories would people like to see from me?
I have lots of different ideas for stories, and I could possibly share some here. Short stories, anthro stories, TF stories, all with weight gain :)

Aneurysm, health, breakdown, and my particularly bad year
General | Posted 5 years agoRoughly 18 months ago, people started pointing out that I was shaking a lot. I hadn't noticed it at first, but then I started dropping things and couldn't get my keys in the front door easily.
About a year ago I had a CT scan which allegedly showed an aneurysm on my brain. This was a shock but I thought I was coping pretty well at the time, though I took a year out from my studies as a precaution. Fortunately, I managed to get an MRI scan which gave me the all clear. This was great news, naturally, but I did not feel quite right and the shaking continued.
After seeing a neurologist, I was diagnosed with the extremely common (and often harmless) essential tremor. Basically, a regular tremor. Uncommon in a (at the time) 26-year-old but pretty harmless.
Again, more good news, but something was not quite right. I felt numb and gradually became very depressed, and by December this had developed into the most severe episode of depression I have ever experienced.
I won't go into details but it is partially why I sort of dropped off the radar for a while. Currently, I'm taking new medication which has helped a lot. I'm now back at university and doing pretty well, though I still don't feel 100%.
For most people 2020 has not been great, and I won't pretend that I've had the worst of anyone, but I wanted to get some of what has happened off my chest.
Lots of love to everyone on here who is nice to me and kind enough to read my work. I hope 2021 is a better year for everyone xx

14 years on Furaffinity
General | Posted 5 years agoIt does not feel that long. I remember the constant outages in the early days. Some of the worst lasted for months. I started off doing some truly terrible drawings, and I haven't much improved since then! Hopefully my stories are better, though :)
Any 3D artists or game developers who use a curved screen...
General | Posted 5 years agoHey, I'm thinking of getting a new monitor but someone mentioned something to me that I had not considered. I do a lot of stuff in Blender and Unity these days and I'm worried that a curved screen distorting the image of what I'm working on might be an issue. Does anyone have any experience with this?
Remember that video game I was working on? I'm back at it...
General | Posted 5 years agoHey, remember that game that I said I was working on years ago but then provided no updates? Well, here is a map that I made for the planned open world: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/38064947/
What is this game? Well, the plan is for it to be a feral furry MMORPG, with lite-survival mechanics (hunt to level up etc). You will create your own characters (planned species include dragons, wolves, lions, bears, horses, and more!) and join an open world with other players. You will play with others or alone to hunt, forage, level up your stats, complete quests, amongst other things.
Where am I actually at with this thing? Well, there is not much to see at the moment, though I uploaded a screenshot of the tech in play a few years ago. There are some loosely related mechanics (code) that need to be stitched together, and some mechanics that I'm trying to figure out. As far as map-making goes, this is an area where I'm confident that I have the tools and ability to deliver, hence the ambition for such a large and complex map. To deliver this, I'll use some add-on Unity assets specifically designed to generate and populate maps based off of height maps. From there I can sculpt and perfect to my heart's desire (I love a bit of geography). I also recently acquired an engine which I hope will be sufficient to drive the character creation system, the online system, and some of the RPG mechanics.
Right now I'm learning to use Blender, with the aim to get half-decent at making character models, which will eventually end up in the game. I honestly have no idea how long this will take to make, but I plan to make some mini-games out of the mechanics I make along the way. I'll probably release it early access-style, and add mechanics as I go.
I'm kind of unsure at this stage on which render pipeline to use in Unity for the visuals. On the one hand, the option to have ray-tracing would be awesome, but on the other, I want as many people as possible to be able to play this thing. It would be helpful to know some of the PC specs that people have at their disposal.
Feel free to give me a shout in notes if you think I'm missing anything, it might be helpful to bounce ideas around :)

Kind of struggling, and update on writing and game
General | Posted 5 years agoThings have taken a downturn recently. Not literally, things are actually pretty good, objectively speaking. However, my mood has been plummeting over the last few weeks and has quickly surpassed my usual low, grumpy mood. I'm really not comfortable in my own skin, and I find myself wishing that I were my character (with realistic proportions). It would be great to be a dragon. It's a shame that I won't live to see whatever sci-fi technology of the far future might make this possible.
In other news, I'm nearly finished with Korongo Chapter 6. It is a longer chapter than usual, hence it taking longer than usual to write. Also, been making good progress with my novel, although I have no idea what I want to do with it. I'll be going back to my Nat Sci. studies towards the latter half of September, so I will have less time for things beyond that, though I will try to keep with a writing routine.
Unity 3D has found its way back to my computer and I have been toying with the idea of making a much less ambitious, sort of minigame, perhaps a weight gain minigame or something, then I can use that mechanic in something bigger at a later date. I'd still love to make my dream multiplayer feral furry game, though the biggest hurdle towards this is my ability to make models and animate them (or lack of), and programming some of the mechanics I'd like, especially multiplayer mechanics. I'm pretty adept at building large open worlds now, however, so I can bash half-decent maps out pretty quickly at least.
Anyhow, that's where I'm at at the moment.

Superior: The Return of Race Science is free on Amazon
General | Posted 5 years agoThis is next on my reading list. It was made the Guardian's book of the year and made the Telegraph's top 50 books of the year. Apparently it is fantastic at challenging the bullshit that is coming out of race 'science' at the moment.

Everyone is talking about the riots, so...
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm very wary about what I say here as this seems like an easy way to lose friends. I'd like to start by saying that I don't live in the US, so my opinion is undoubtedly going to be out of touch. That being said, things that I have seen written about how 'all lives matter' seem painfully tone-deaf to me. The issue here for me is that white people simply don't have the same recent history of widespread slavery, oppression, and in this case, being killed by the people who are supposed to protect them. The fact that all lives matter should be a given, but within this context, it sounds really insensitive when so many, because of their skin colour, are at greater risk of poverty, of being on the receiving end of racism, of being killed by law enforcement, and live in the shadow of society that wilfully treats them poorly.
As for the riots, theft, property damage, and whatnot. I in no way condone violence. However, I don't think that people should be surprised. People have been protesting for civil rights and for positive change for decades, and their voices are just not being heard. Based on the statistics I have seen, there has not been a significant improvement in the rates of death by the hands of law enforcement in years. And only now are their voices REALLY being heard.
Those are my thoughts on the matter. I'm willing to listen to what others have to say. However, I'll be honest right now and say that I'm not really interested in more white American males telling me that I'm wrong and that this is 'how it is'. I'd actually like to hear from people of colour.

Larger version of Out on the Plains by Malaika4 available
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm getting to grips with FA's weird rules for uploading art. I have realised that it allows images of up to 1800 px in width as long as the total file size does not exceed 1280 x 1280 pixels, which is a bit weird.
Anyway, I have updated Out on the Plains by Malaika4 and now a much larger image is available to see! :)
Also, I uploaded my first ever piece of digital art in 6 years, complete with story. If you like chubby bears, so check it out :D

Coronavirus lock-down, year 34: My dearest Edna...
General | Posted 5 years agoHow is everyone handling lock-down? I'm a bit of an introvert, so things are okay for me; feeling a bit blue, perhaps. Try to keep busy, keep a routine, that should help us through this, I think :)
Highfire by Eoin Colfer - Best dragon book of the year!
General | Posted 5 years agoDefinitely not my usual read! It's vulgar, it's lewd, it's brilliant. Vern is an Absolut Vodka-drinking, Netflix-watching, dragon with a misanthropic outlook, and possibly the last of his kind. The book can get a bit depressing at times, but it is also hilarious, fun, and heartwarming towards the end. The story generally revolves around a 15-year-old swamper called Squib, who accidentally witnesses the murder of a drug-dealer by a local bent (and psychopathic) cop. His life is saved by Vern (Lord Highfire) and what follows is a briskly moving plot with plenty of laughs.
I had a particular appreciation for the fact that Vern is fat dragon (no bias from me there), this explained as being part of his physiology and essential for his ability to breathe fire. I was not expecting this going in, and it was rather a nice surprise :)
There were a few issues in it which I found hard to overlook, particularly towards the end: concerning Vern's general strength and abilities, and why it is that he's the last dragon. However, this did not stop me from enjoying it and I really hope there will be a sequel, as it left me wanting more. All in all, my favourite book of the year. A warning though if you plan to read it, I was not joking about the book being vulgar (and graphic!).

Best software for digital art?
General | Posted 6 years agoI think I might order a Huion HS610, but I will need some software to go with it! I have Art Rage 4 on Steam, though I'm assuming that things have moved on a bit in the 10 years since that was released.
Do you guys have any recommendations for art software? I know Photoshop is the go-to thing for digital art, but it's a bit pricey for me. I've heard good things about Autodesk Sketchbook though :)

Best introduction to digital art/learning to draw?
General | Posted 6 years agoHiya!
So, I have been looking to redesign my character for a while now, and I think I would like to give it a go myself. Does anyone know of any good introductions/tutorials to digital art? I'd like to learn the fundamentals so that I can produce something semi-decent. I've dabbled with drawing in the past, but without any real knowledge of things like lighting, colour, form etc.
A book would be ideal for me (I love books!) but online tutorials would be cool too :)
Also, I have an ancient graphics tablet but I think I'd like something new. Could anyone perhaps recommend a good tablet (graphic or otherwise) for beginners?
I'd really appreciate the advice :)

If you could be your fursona in the real world, would you?
General | Posted 6 years agoAssume that everyone else with a fursona or character could also do the same. So, in my case I'd be a lorge green dragon. I'd love to be a dragon, so I'm kind of interested as to how others on here feel.
Happy Christmas everyone :)

Why I don't post very much now
General | Posted 6 years agoThere are a few reasons. One is that I have generally been very busy over the last few years with university and other work. Another is that I have depression, which kind of sucks the fun out of writing and has killed any motivation that I had to write.
I will probably keep writing and posting at an anaemic pace, but it's unlikely that I will ever get back to posting frequently for the those reasons.

What GPUs/computers do you guys have? - Video game dev
General | Posted 6 years agoI'm working on a sort of furry online world thing. I had been developing it in Unity, but I took a break for university and now I'm thinking of switching to Unreal Engine 4. But that leaves a question open, what GPUs do you guys have?
I'm running a GTX 1070 alongside an i7 7700K, but it would be kind of pointless for me to build a stunning virtual world if no had the horsepower to run it...
***
An update on my health. I had a CT scan a few weeks back which showed a mass on my brain, so I took a year out from my university studies, but an MRI a week later showed that nothing was there, so I now have a whole year free! :)

Update and health
General | Posted 6 years agoApologies for not being around much, I've been busy moving into a new place and now I'm getting on with my university work.
My health has been deteriorating a bit recently, unfortunately. I'm only 26 and physically active, but I have been having difficulties with shaking, tiredness, and other issues which are being investigated. I have a history of depression and I'm on a fairly high dosage of multiple medications, so I'm hoping that the new issues are side-effects, rather than something else!
Other than that, things are pretty good. The natural sciences degree is going great and I'm going to specialise in Earth sciences :)
Feel free to hit me up if you want to chat!
Zigzak out.

Good weight gain stories?
General | Posted 7 years agoCan anyone point me in the direction of some good weight gain/fat fur stories? I typically like slow burners, especially if they involve big cats, dragons or horses!
I find FA's search and browse options a bit lacking, so I would really appreciate being pointed in the right direction :)
