Who Else Should Get the Whisper Treatment
Posted 5 months agoOkay, while I do have some plans to draw the main cast of Hazbin Hotel in a City of Whispers AU design, perhaps there are other characters from that or other franchises you would like to see get the treatment. I don't know how many I will finish, ,it takes a while to work on each design.

This bastard has done his level best to undermine me as a person most of my life (the rest of it he was just negligent)
If I disagreed with him he would call r*****ed to my face. Even insisting I didn't know what I was talking about when it came to matters directly related to my degree. This man has also referred to Latin cultures as "inferior", but also claims he's not racist.
When I was four my mom came to pick me up from visitation and found me alone in the unlocked apartment because he had gone out.
I was nearly kidnapped on his watch (I was rescued by a teenage employee)
In college he tried to socially isolate me, monopolizing a lot of my free time so I barely had any friends and was miserable for many years after that.
It's taken years to break through all this BS and find myself again, thanks to therapy and finally cutting him out of my life. My grandmother (his mother) calls my mom incessantly to demand I come see him, often holding the inheritance money over her head. Luckily my mom figured out that goalpost was on wheels and quit asking me to just humor them for a day.
Sometimes I weep for the few good times. I miss an idea of a father I never had. But I am so much less miserable with him out of my life. I am not tensing up every time I get text or call, I don't have to walk on eggshells worried I am going to say the wrong thing/have the wrong opinion.
I may never fully heal from the damage he has done, but at least I'm not still drinking the goddamn poison!
No contact isn't an easy choice to make, but it if I had the chance to do it all again I'd cut him out of my life sooner.

Plans for February

I was originally planing to open up commissions in Feb, figuring that I would get everything done that I needed to in Jan.... well the Universe had other plans. This past Sunday I came down with Covid for the first time, which freaking sucks. Really threw me off track, and my work made me take vacation days to cover for the time I had to stay home too.
Slowly getting back to 100%.
So I am not totally sure how soon I'm going to be up to taking on commissions. Probably only small stuff for early February, and we'll have see what my schedule looks like later. My deepest apologies to the folks whom I had spoken with about larger commission projects, but I hoping I should be able to take on at least one or two full illustration by the last week of February.
I am also planning to make some changes to the reference sheet commissions style. I think it may be easier for folks to have more straightforward options, rather than the vague ones I have right now. Would definitely love to hear from any of you- what do you always want to have in a reference sheet? Front and back views? Accessories or Facial Expressions?

Posted 8 months agoWhen it comes to avian characters I often feel like my skills are not up to snuff. I've been browsing a few avian character designs to examine how other artists tackle the challenge of drawing their features.
Naturally I figure I should lean on my audience, what with their very excellent taste!

Shingles Sucks
Posted 9 months agohmmmm... to cap off the month just kinda sucking, I got shingles.
Last Friday I was super exhausted and went home sick, slept for 14 hours and still felt tired... by Tuesday night a rash showed up on my back. At first I thought it had to be some bug bites, but it was pretty painful. I decided to take advantage of my health insurance and went to the after hours clinic, hoping they would tell me something like "yeah, you're having a reaction to some flea bites," but as the title says it was not the case. The doctor lifted my shirt, made the "that's not good" hiss, and asked me if I'd had chickenpox.
I was given some general instructions, prescribed some antibiotics and sent home.
Burning, stinging pain doesn't do it justice. Because it's attached to the nerves, my whole left side feels like I've been pummeled repeatedly. I would describe the pain of the rash kinda like when you get a tattoo and it's the final pass of color, when your skin is already raw and swollen from having a comb of needles stab it a million times already. While it's not the worst pain I've ever felt, it's up there and it's just constant. The slightest movement can set it off, if anything brushes my back just slightly I get fresh waves of burning pain. Add to it the lymph nodes in my left armpit are swollen up so even having my arm in a relaxed position is uncomfortable...
If you have the option to go get a shingles vaccine I highly encourage you to do it. This shit sucks, you do not want to deal with it, even a minor case.

Hand Injury
Posted a year agoMy foster boy, Aramis, gave me a nasty bite that required a visit to the urgent care clinic. Drawing is a bit of a challenge right now, so commissions will have to be put on pause.

Last time some folks were a little confused about what a moodboard is, so here's an EXAMPLE of what I'm talking about when I say moodboard. A group of images related to a theme/mood/aesthetic. Pintrest is packed with them, or you can make your own

Happy New Year- Moving Forward
Posted a year agoHappy new year, y'all!
It has been a wild ride again. There were so many things going on... between getting passed on to two different doctors, and all the stuff that went wrong with consistently getting my meds filled. Fingers crossed that's done with!
Being medicated has helped so much with my focus and emotional stability. Also cutting out my father and his side of the family from my life has done a lot to preserve what peace I have.
There's more to talk about in that vein (mental health), but I will leave it until I can properly write it out.
Started to realize that I lean way more toward nonbinary than female. They or She is fine with me. No I do not feel like writing an essay to justify my personal feelings to anyone, this is just what FITS for me.
I'm going to take a couple days off to let my brain rest and deal with some other stuff. I will be back to answer notes and comments soon.

The Night at the ER
Posted 2 years agoWell it finally happened guys.
One of my fosters bit me and it developed into an infection.
Cider made a break for it and got out of the cage. I, not thinking to grab the thick leather gloves I have for handling skittish rats that may bite, tried to scoop him up to put him back in the house. He freaked out, he's not been handled much and I'm still working on his trust, so he did what any small animal would do; he bit. Normally the bites I get are just surface level and never result in worse than a small scar, this, however, was in the meat of my finger.
At first I didn't think much of it, I cleaned it off and went to bed. Hours later I wake up in pain and my finger is swollen.
At the emergency room, I have to explain to the intake nurse that I was bitten by a rat-"so you were bit by a dog?"
"no, a rat"
"like a ferret?"
"no, a rat. Rattus norvegicus domestica. A pet rat."
They also had me take a pregnancy test... despite telling the nurse I'm gay and not sexually active at the moment, they just have to determine if I have human rights atm.
So... a negative pregnancy test, an x-ray, and some antibiotics, and a tetanus shot later, I was finally discharged.
The amusing part, I think I freaked the doctor out showing her all my previous rat bite scars by way of explaining why I didn't seek medical help immediately.
Anyway. I am alive, my hand feels a little better but I still don't have use of that finger.
