Will draw for dead stuff 💀
Posted 6 years agoI see a fair amount of vulture culture in the furry fandom and just thought I'd throw it out there that I'm happy to do art in exchange for skulls, pelts, mounted insects, wet specimens, etc. because I'm a massive natural history nerd!
Wanting to take some more feral commissions!
Posted 6 years agoMy recent trade reminded me how much I enjoy drawing feral characters! If anyone is interested I would like to take a couple colored fullbodies like the following for $20-30:

100 Watcher Raffle! [OVER]
Posted 8 years agoIt's been slow, but I'm there! I thought I'd hold another raffle to celebrate. I've certainly improved since the last time!
To enter, just comment below and include a link to a song you like for funsies. I love discovering new music. I'll randomly select a winner this weekend.
Small print:
-Must be following me to enter. New followers are ok, as long as you intend to *keep* following me
-Feral & anthro characters are both fine
-The winner can choose a bust OR, if the character is simple enough, a 5-pack of simple face telegram stickers. A fullbody is not out of the question if I get inspired!
Good luck! :)
EDIT: Winner is

kaimanaHalloo from England!
Posted 8 years agoAfter the usual amount of fussing over paperwork (shoutout to the bureaucratic clusterfuck that is the Cambridge City Post Office at start of term), fighting through jet lag, discovering that watching Netflix nukes my network allowance for the day in my room, and getting lost AF, I am all matriculated, registered, and settled into my lovely little old attic room here at the University of Cambridge's Magdalene College.
Yesterday morning I went to get my module registration signed by my supervisor and ran into a PhD candidate studying ritual taphonomy (MY THING, GUYS) who told me I'm welcome to come poke around in her collection of Neolithic burials any time. Afterwards, I went on a field trip to a remarkable site where we got a tour by the famous archaeologist who discovered it!! I love this place. I can't believe I made it here.

Posted 8 years agoAfter 5 years of working my fluffy little ass off at 3 schools in 2 countries, I am officially a college grad, with high distinctions and a BA in anthropology.
As soon as I'm able to scrape myself off the floor here, it will be time for summer fun and art-ing and waterparks until I'm off to England in October!

Posted 9 years agoI've survived my most intense semester ever and am home for the holidays! Yaaay! I get to go visit my sister and her family after Christmas too, which will be fun--I don't get to see her very often because she can't reasonably travel with her 3 small children.
I've also been placed at a college (it's kind of like the Hogwarts house system) at Cambridge University! Magdalene College, here I come!
How are you guys doing? Any fun plans?

catalogue ALL the artifacts (Zoe blabs about her life)
Posted 9 years agoWelp, almost done with a real humdinger of a semester. Take my Monday, for example: got up, went to class, did a reading assignment, responded to reading assignment, finished a zooarchaeology lab, catalogued artifacts for almost 4 hours, finished a final paper. 12 hour day out of my apartment. Whew.
But I'm almost done, I think I can pull straight A/A-'s again, I've been placed in Magdalene College at Cambridge, and I've formally accepted my offer! So there are shiny things on the horizon!

Be Safe: a "political" journal
Posted 9 years agoI know some people are choosing to leave politics off of FA, and I respect that, but this is about more than "politics".
This morning I have spoken to 2 people whose friends had to go pick up their (Asian and Latinx) kids from school yesterday because they were being bullied and harassed by their classmates, and spoken to 2 women and heard about 1 (Black, Latina, white) who have been approached with slurs and insults from strange men in the last 2 days.* This is just in my department in my university.
Things are scary and rocky right now. People feel like they have permission/validation to say and do unacceptable things, because “the president does it”. Be safe.
*the only good news about this is that all 3 of those women struck those men in the face and were promptly left alone

23 and me (hurr hurr)
Posted 9 years agoWelp, I'm 23 now! I got a pretty great shirt: https://www.etsy.com/listing/127645.....erican-apparel
scrubbing rusty nails with a toothbrush and pumped about it
Posted 9 years agoI have now had all of my classes once, and started my internship today! I'm cleaning, cataloging, and eventually helping research an assemblage from a 19th century farmhouse. Lots of small metal artifacts (nails, rivets, even a pair of cuff links!), varied glass and ceramic sherds, some animal bone. It's about 2,000 years young for me, specialty-wise, but it's such a great experience!
Meanwhile, working on grad school apps. Oh lordy

$5 sketchy colored headshots/busts until Saturday
Posted 9 years agoAs long as I get to keep playing with an iPad, I would love to do a couple more commissions today and tomorrow. Let me know if you're interested in something cute and cheap with a quick turnaround time! :)
Taking a couple of practice requests
Posted 9 years agoHi guys! I'm at my parents' house for another week and my dad just got a new iPad w/Apple Pencil and HOLY CRAP I'M HAVING SO MUCH FUN, even just doodling without layers in Notes. It's making me really want a tablet! In the meantime, I'd like to scribble a few of yiz this week. I hope to do a couple of super sketchy headshots/busts and maybe a fullbody or two because wow do I need anatomy practice. Can't guarantee they'll be any good, but give me something to work with! Any takers?
Would like to do 1 or 2 cheap notebook doodles tonight!

$5 for a pencil headshot sketch, inking optional. Will add quick color for $3 more. I sometimes struggle with felines but will try anything!

Update From the Trenches
Posted 9 years agoHiya guys! I am now a little over a week into field school. We're excavating a Chalcolithic wedge tomb in the west of Ireland--as always, I am happy to provide details and excited archaeological commentary if anyone is interested! Basically, I'm having the most fantastic time. I'm learning to excavate, record, survey, sketch, and more, and while the context of the site is quite disturbed (badgers have fucked the stratigraphy right to badger hell) it's rich in human and animal bone and has even yielded part of a stone axehead. We should be able to get DNA and strontium readings from the teeth and petrous bones, which is always exciting. Yesterday I dug up a crumble that might be Beaker pottery and might be mud. I think it's probably mud, but it's got my supervisors all excited anyway, so here's hoping.
I spend my time either digging or lying around because digging is hard, so I haven't done any drawing or anything else productive in my downtime lately, but I do plan to doodle some Pokémon in the back of my notebook this week because I am doing my very best to play Pokémon Go in this tiny, tiny town in Co. Clare and am enjoying it immensely. Yesterday I took a picture of one of my friends petting an Oddish. It's great. Aaand now I'm going to bed because I stayed up way too late chatting with a zooarchaeologist in a pub last night. Life is good.

And I'm off!
Posted 9 years agoOff to Ireland for 6 weeks, likely will not be posting much but you will still be able to contact me here! c:
Possibly last chance at commissions for a while!
Posted 9 years agoJust a reminder that I am taking headshot and bust commissions ranging from $10-20 (or maybe even less if you're just looking for a pencil sketch), but possibly only for the next few days until later in the summer! Soon I'll be off to Ireland for a month+ and am unsure if I'll have to the time and wifi to draw.
Is anyone going to Furry Migration?
Posted 9 years agoI live in Minneapolis and am dying to go to my first furcon, but none of my real-life friends are furries (and are thus entirely uninterested in accompanying me), and I don't know how I feel about wandering about by myself. Any of y'all planning on showing up?
Aaaand we're back
Posted 9 years agoHey guys! I'm back. I don't have an account on any other art sites, but can always find me under the username embarrassingshit on reddit (I know, I know. Started as a throwaway for slightly embarrassing but funny anecdotes, turned into my /r/furry account).
I am also going to start tentatively taking a couple kinds of headshot/bust commissions, as I've just finished one for a redditor (which I will upload as soon as he approves it) and nothing has exploded yet. Let me know if you're interested!

[happy hyena sounds]
Posted 9 years agoSo I just showed my advisor the first finished product of my current internship (a 3D model of a bone fragment that was, incidentally, chewed on by a hyena) and she's absolutely over the moon with it! I'd be happy to explain why to anyone who wants to hear archaeological ramblings about bone breakage patterns And then while I was sitting there basking in the fact that despite my many days floundering around with uncooperative technology I had actually produced something that would be useful in someone's thesis, I got an email saying that I got an internship for next semester cleaning and cataloging newly-excavated artifacts for the Minnesota Historical Society!
I am a very, very happy mini archaeologist right now.

Anime Detour
Posted 9 years agoIs anyone going to be at Anime Detour later this month? A friend invited me so I am going despite only ever having seen one anime in its entirety
I know there are some furries around here somewhere. (I wish I had a decent tail to wear on my non-cosplay day, then maybe I'd be more likely to find them!)

Spring break happies + an apology for general slowness
Posted 9 years agoAnd the archaeology hyena rejoiceth, for she hath aced her forensics exam and turned in the two midterm papers she's been working on all week. Plus she's booked her field school session for the summer in Ireland and boy is she pumped.
....That said, I hope I'll be able to finish those raffle prizes this week!! I've tried a couple of times but it turns out I'm feeling a wee bit art block-y. Sorry for the wait!

Last day for 50 watcher art raffle!
Posted 9 years ago50 Watcher Art Raffle!
Posted 9 years agoI have no idea how that happened, but it has just come to my attention that I have exactly 50 watchers! So....
Step 1: Be watching me!
Step 2: Comment on this journal with, uh, your favorite Star Wars quote! Or something. Whatever.
Step 3: On Sunday February 28th I'll randomly pick one or several of you, depending on the number of entries, to receive a pencil drawing (probably a bust but we'll see). I'd be happy to mail the original(s) to the winner(s), assuming that receiving an envelope from Minnesota is a simple enough process for you wherever you live.
No need to post refs, I'll be choosing randomly so I'll contact you for details if you win.
Thank you all! Go go go! c:
