OK an update
Posted 14 years agoIt just occurred to me that some folks on FA don't follow me on Twitter or LJ so I should post an update (especially since my last post was such a downer)
Back in November I got a new job in San Diego,CA working as a software engineer for an aerospace company (it required me to move, but I live close enough that I still can go home on weekends) While I've been working long hours and was on the road for most of last month, I throughly enjoy the new job (not to mention a massive pay raise and a pension ).
As for cons...
I decided to skip going to European cons this year so I can visit some friends of mine in Australia come May, but I will be at FCN, AC, and maybe Rain Furrest.
How are you all doing?
Zot :D

Job go bye bye
Posted 15 years agoWe had a meeting this afternoon at work and I found out that we are loosing all of our contracts at the end of the year. While we could technically pick up some new contracts, I'm not holding by breath and marked this job off as lost. It's a strange feeling as I have been with the same employer since March 2001 and it will feel strange working somewhere else.
I'm more annoyed than anything as this would have been useful to know before I moved into my new apartment 2 weeks ago (I would have not moved in and probably would have gone back to my parents until I figured out what to do). Thankfully the apartment complex will let me break my lease without penalty if I loose my job.
While I don't know exactly what I'm going to do for everything I do know that:
* I will be able to weather being jobless for a while as I will be collecting unemployment, have have 2 years of savings, and have practically no debt.
* I will still be attending EF and going to Virginia in August as I have paid for these trips in full.
One thing I'm strongly considering after I am let go, is taking the opportunity to try living somewhere else besides Southern California. Right now Phoenix looks like the best candidate as I know a lot of people there and its much cheaper to live out here compared to Southern California.
The next couple of months are going to be interesting to say the least.

I will not be at AC this year floks :(
Posted 15 years agoIn case some of you don't know already:
I unfortunately will not be able to attend Anthrocon this year as I need to move in to my new apartment that weekend. I could have done the move earlier, but it would have cost me almost $500 in overlapping rent with my current place, so I decided to pass.
Its going to feel weird not going to AC this year as I have gone every year since 2000. However I will be at Eurofurence in late August.
Have fun at AC folks and take lots of pictures.
