That doesn't mean let yourself be emotionally manipulated by people with no planning ability. That doesn't mean do ninety-nine percent of the work and not be met half way. That doesn't mean become a source of learned helplessness.
I had a blood pressure event and a panic attack that almost sent me to the hospital and the response was "if you don't help me I'm fucked" like I don't have my own life and dependent and responsibilities.
Don't let that happen to you.

You should use references when drawing. Professionals do it all the time. If anybody ever told you that you aren't a real artist or cheating or something else by using them, that person was actively trying to harm you and hamper your progress. And if you are the one saying these things, shame on you. You're never allowed to look at anything ever again, go draw from memory and imagination 100% of the time forever and see how it goes.
Doesn't mean you have to use references. It just means you are allowed. It's literally 100% fine. Every rule you've ever heard of is made up and you can do whatever you want forever.

Posted a month agoYou will never hear me chant "no politics." Too often it's used by shit people masking shit views. And guess what? We're furries and queers, two terms that are essentially synonymous. Our existence is made political against our will. That said, once I'm caught up on verified news, my covid damaged heart really can't handle the stress of seeing the endless doom and commentary while I'm trying to view art that I enjoy to calm down. Really. I started getting palpitations and blood pressure problems that I had to scrounge money for medication for. Gonna need to have a follow up and maybe try something else soon, too.
So yeah, I'm glad I came back here. Wish artists I really liked used FA more or at all. You won't catch me dead on twitter, either, and everything I've heard about mastodon turns me off more than twt/bsky. Some have TG channels, and if I had money I'd go with patreon for others. But this old place feels kind of like home.

Hello again
Posted a month agoOkay so um after everything that happened with dragoneer and all the other nonsense, I kind of went through like a lot of shit and have bumming around bluesky for a while.
Made new friends, which was amazing. Found some artists I had never seen before, which was also amazing. Learned about drama in our community I was never aware of and ignore because fuck that. Talked with people and learned a lot about myself, and I'm happy with myself. Less happy with the state of the world, though.
But without getting too far into it, I'm still on bsky, but back here, too! I've been doing a lot of writing actually, and have a bajillion OCs I need to draw.
edit: oh my lanta it's gonna take FOREVER to look up all the people I follow on bsky god damn
