Commissions and ToS
9 years agoI really want to improve as an artist, so much. I am dealing with depression and some other mental troubles which often prevent me from working though. Because of this commissions are a double edged sword for me. On the one hand I am hoping that working for others as part of a 'job' is the motivation I need to push me. Even when I can barely get out of bed for a week I will still do what is required of me for work, most of the time, so I'm holding on to that. On the other hand I know that I'm not the best artist out there, not in general nor in my price range (if you wanna see a REALLY good artist in my price range, go to

To strike a balance between these things I have decided to work on the basis of late payment. I will only demand payment once my work is done, or if the commission is cancelled by the commissioner without good reason. Before that I will gladly show WIPs, but I hope it goes without saying that I will temper with them to make them unusable as refs, gifts, or anything the like. For a while I considered just watermarking my WIPs as 'this is stolen' but that seemed a bit extreme. So yes, every work before I receive payment will have utterly awful resolution and be watermarked with my name to hell and back. That said if you DO ever run across an image like that, you know what happened :v (All that aside I doubt anybody considers my art worth stealing, though if it's not worth stealing it's even less worth paying for I suppose?)
If you wonder where your money will go, I created a list about that on my deviantArt. I do not live on the money of commissions, do not commission me because you feel like I need the support to survive. http://justaminorgodcomplex.deviant.....ngey-635888949
Now to copypaste my ToS. Yay.
#1 If I don't want to work for you it is my right not to work for you, no matter the reason.
#2 If you cancel the commission, you will be charged for the part that is already done, and I will give you that part in a normal resolution and without excessive watermarks (apart from my standard, of course). If there is a good reason to cancel, this term can GLADLY be discussed about. I have no interest in scamming people, afterall reputation is half the deal of a commission.
#3 The work can not be refunded. Once you have paid and I have sent you the piece of art, your right to cancel the commission has run out. I'm not getting my time back by giving you your money, and frankly once the piece is done, it's on the internet and people might use it. Therefore, no refunds.
#4 I hold the right to post the work on the art forums I use. It will be marked as commission so nobody can pretend you were trying to steal anything or something silly like that. You, of course, may post the art on your art forum, but the signature is to remain unaltered and I would much appreciate a link to one of my artist pages.
#5 If the piece is to be used commercially, I demand royalties. It may only be used commercially after discussing this with me.
#6 I will gladly make changes to the piece during sketching or even lineart. If the piece is past that stage and you remember a change you would like to be made, let me know. That said, I will decide whether or not I will do it, depending on the work involved. In short, changing a hairstyle is easy, changing the complete shading of the head as result of that hairstyle is not.
#7 The terms are subject to change as I see fit, however, the terms made on the day of your commission are the ones we will be following for the rest of our journey~
