As we head into October, we are facing a major economic crisis. Thousands, if not millions of people are going to be out of jobs, the elderly and disabled are getting hit badly, among many other things. Hundreds of agencies, like the FDIC, are being shutdown due to the lack of available funding. This is an hour of crisis for many people, as they are not able to make it without work. Not to mention that -somehow- $67 Million of Obamacare funds allocated to IRS are "Missing" and its being called a "Hiccup" in the system. Now millions of people are suffering greatly because of this. I myself am seeing the devastating effects of how this government is being handled, as I live with my mother who is elderly and cannot work. Its been one thing after another, from DSHS (Or Department of Human and Health Services) pulling my mother around and cutting her medical, then saying that there was a fuck up and that she wasn't supposed to be on a 3-6 month spend-down.
To highlight some of the agencies/departments being shut down straight from CNN:
Partially Closed/Shutdown: Department of Education
Total Employees: 4,195
Expected to Work: 212
Furloughed: 3,983
Most Department of Education employees are not excepted because the department, which is not among the largest in Washington, does not administer direct education programs. Those are done at the state level. Most of the excepted employees would work to continue administering Direct Loan and Pell Grants with the help of contractors who have already been paid.
Open/For 10 days: U.S. courts
Total Employees: ???
Expected To Work: ???
Furloughed: ???
The U.S. court system could operate for 10 days on available funds.
Open/Functions continue: Department of Health and Human Services
Total Employees: 78,198
Expected To Work: 37,686
Furloughed: 40,512
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services would continue large portions of Affordable Care Act activities, including coordination between Medicaid and the Marketplace. Also continued: Insurance rate reviews and assessment of a portion of insurance premiums that are used on medical services. In the short term, the Medicare Program will continue largely uninterrupted.
Due to this shutdown, my mother only received $75 for the month of October from her SSI check when those fighting this Obamacare Bill said that SSI and Food Stamps would not be touched. She's basically given up on ever getting help from anyone, as all she has ever done her entire life is give help, then only be turned down by those who she needs it from the most. Please, if there is ANYTHING at all you can do to help her, IM me. This post is the LAST saving grace that I will have before she and I end up homeless in next 4 days. I'm not about to lose my home, not yet. I am going down fighting with every last muscle in my body!
