Finally Joining FurAffinity, and my Inability to Navigate (G)

I've been meaning to get around to making a FurAffinity for AGES now! In my mind it's always sort of been 'THE' furry hub, maybe right next to Telegram. But despite being a fur since 2015, there's still so much that's new to me.
Including this site.
Maybe it's the fact 2015 was when I was... checks notes... nine or ten years old (WOAH); or that, despite passively being a furry before I could even articulate what a furry WAS, I didn't start really involving myself in the community until recently; but whatever it is, one thing is clear: I'm about as lost as a parrot in the desert.
I don't even know if this is an appropriate thing to write a journal about. I just figured it would be fitting to use it to relay random stories, thoughts, feelings.. but would shouts be better for that? Actually, what do shouts even do?
On top of that, I have lots of art I want to upload at some point. But a lot of them are just scraps. But how do I upload scraps without them appearing in my main gallery?!
On top of that, I'm aaaalways open for discussing possible art trades. But lo and behold, I don't know how to change that setting on my profile.
I'm sure I'll feel it all out in time, but.. for now I'm just going to feel my way through :
