Why you write meme, or why I haven't uploaded anything
9 years ago
So yeah, got tagged by
pablote to do the meme so I wrote the meme and now uhhh...
Not gonna lie, I'm glad I did it.
1) why do you write?
2) what do you write, and why?
3) how long have you been writing for, and what sparked your passion?
4) what forms of writer's block do you usually get?
5) what causes your writers block? how do you try to break the block?
6) what/how do you wish you could write, other than what you write now?
7) who are the creators that inspire you, and why?
8) do you like writing for others, or just yourself? or both?
9) do you like the writing style that you have created? why or why not?
10) small challenge! post a "then and now" extract! Doesn't have to be long, just a small example of something you produced when starting out and how you would stage it now.
1.
There really isn't any deep or special reason as to why I write, and even then, I use the term 'write' rather loosely. I don't read a whole lot, and honestly the only reason I choose storytelling over comics is because I don't have the patience to consistently draw. While sometimes writing can be a blast, more often than not actually translating the ideas in my head to words on a page is a bigger frustration than I want to deal with, and it ends up not happening.
Uhh... Didn't exactly mean for that to go in that direction.
2.
Ahhh, a fun question! Fantasy!
Be it medieval Dungeons and Dragons style, modern, or even fetish fueled, I'm mostly interested in writing about things that are not only strange, but downright impossible.
3.
I've been writing ever since elementary school really. They used to make us do a morning journal exercise, and one day I just ended up writing a silly Pokemon story in the journal, and it got put up on the wall. (Probably between 6-8 years old?)
I mean I had always come up with stories in my head, but that was the moment that kinda showed me that there was a way to let other people see it as well.
I guess as an addendum to the first question, we can add that I write because it gives me a way to let people into my head.
4.
Geez, there's a lot of questions.
Writer's block? Well, I don't usually get stuck in terms of where a plot should go. I spend most of my time not playing video games coming up with plot ideas.
Where I get stuck is the writing itself. Sentence structure, logical progression, all of these things that should be simple never seem to come out right. At best I ramble, and at worst the page stays blank.
5.
The best I can do is honestly just talk to people about my ideas, and hope that their feedback can push me to write a bit more. Something has to inspire me, and while I like my ideas, finding the inspiration to actually WRITE them is tough.
I tend to write a lot more when school's out though, I guess.
6.
I wish I could WRITE in general more. Avoid the distractions, and just get down on a page as much as I can to finish a story in a way that I could just show it to people.
7.
Inspire?
Uhhh, my girlfriend is a pretty decent source of inspiration, as are a few other certain people.
8.
I love having an audience, because I want to be able to talk about all of this junk with people. Writing for me is fine, but at that rate, I'll just tell the stories in my head. They aren't nearly as complex that way, which is unfortunate. (In my head I tend to skip to the cool parts.) But, it keeps me entertained.
I guess I want to entertain then, so I write for others.
9.
Is this a style?
10.
Geez, I don't even know. I guess I could talk ideas more than anything. I can't stand looking at old work, and once again, the craft of writing itself to me is nearly always more of a chore than a pleasure.
I guess the problem with the then and now idea is that I don't particularly think I've written enough to notice much improvement.
I still get faves every so often on a few stories, most notably the City at the Edge of the Universe. To be honest, I barely even remember what happens in it, but I remember the final concept was going to be a bit weird, and maybe too dark for what I had initially created.
The characters in that story have had years of development through roleplay and my own personal ideas.
Looking back now... Yeesh.
Rebecca was much more of a normal girl, which was fine for the beginning of the story, but she was also going to grow to become far more in tune with the goofy nature of the world she had become a part of.
Lilith... Geez, how much more of a one-eighty can a character take? Giggling and cracking jokes, talking like an idiot. All for the character who in my head is and will always be a major antagonist. Strong, willful, and doesn't give a damn about what others want.
And finally Catherine... Cringe worthy dialogue aside? Her character remained pretty much the same.
So yeah, looking back on my work, I guess I could say that what I really need to do is to EDIT.

Not gonna lie, I'm glad I did it.
