A group for those who create works licensed under the various Creative Commons licenses, and a repository for those looking to incorporate such works.

The favorites on this account are Creative Commons licensed works created by users other than the account maintainer. Artists may not license all their works in this manner, so be sure to read any licensing information attached to their submissions.

The account gallery will contain featured and Creative Commons licensed works submitted by their authors - please direct comments and favorites to them rather than this account. To have one of your own submissions included in the gallery, drop a note to this account or the account of the maintainer. Please note that works under the ND licenses will be excluded from the main gallery.

What licenses?
A short summary of the various Creative Commons licenses:
Attribution (BY) - The work may be distributed or modified, provided it is attributed.
Attribution-ShareAlike (BY-SA) - The work may be distributed or modified, provided it is attributed and derivative works are shared under the same or a similar license.
Attribution-NoDerivs (BY-ND) - The work may be distributed with attribution, however modifications/derivative works are not permitted.
Attribution-NonCommercial (BY-NC) - The work may be used or distributed for non-commercial purposes, provided it is attributed.
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike (BY-NC-SA) - The work may be used or distributed for non-commercial purposes, provided it is attributed and derivative works are shared under the same or a similar license.
Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs (BY-NC-ND) - The work may be distributed for non-commercial purposes with attribution, however modifications/derivative works are not permitted.

Users who wish to place their work in the public domain may wish to look at CC0.

Why Creative Commons?
Reasons for using a Creative Commons license could be anything from saying "Yes, you're allowed to copy or repost this piece of work" to providing works for other artists to build upon. You'd be surprised to see who uses Creative Commons licenses.
