Heros
A friend recently asked me what I would consider to be a hero. Well that’s one hell of a question isn't it?
In this day and age we see and hear so much about celebrities and idols but what are they really?
The moment one does something wrong the whole of the world jumps down their throat reminding them that "they" are role models and that "they" are setting a bad example. Well that much is true but are they really the only ones to blame? We put so much emphasis on the importance of fame it's natural to think that those who are famous must in turn be virtuous but this person is only famous for their talent yet the everyday heroes ...the true heroes are ignored. Of course not being recognized doesn’t hinder these heroes in their efforts because that just comes with the territory.
So is it any wonder that the heroes that go unspoken of never enter into the thoughts of those they touch the lives of? How can we blame the people that we put on pedestals for not setting a good example when they never really were setting a good example to start with?
So now I tell you what I think makes a hero. To me a hero is one who works to better themselves and in the process better those around them. They seek to give of themselves only to see those around them succeed. Do they have faults? Of course, they are human after all but they are the ones you know when you have trouble they will put a smile on your face. They make the day seem sunny even when the rain pours down, and you know when that person is really needed they will do all in their power to do what they think is right. They have their honor, silent though it may be. They are praise worthy but will never ask for it. They can do things for themselves but are never truly alone.
Do you know a hero? Thank them! Praise them! Who are they? And what makes them so? Please I’d like to hear.
