A white dragon is one of my most present beings at the time.
She has a rich white plummage and the edge of the feathers is turning darker from a blueish white to a small rim of indigo.
The feathers are not like the one of a bird, more like the scales of a lizard because they have a living core.
The shaft of the feathers is living keratin from which the barb is sprouting like fingernails grow out of the nailmatrix.
The colour of the feathers depends on the ammount of time they are under the influence of the sunlight which turns the protein in the feathers in a blue colour which darkens with time and exposure to the light. But also the protein is uneven spread in the feathers which creates patterns on the plummage. Males are darker than females.
A bird is sheding old feathers when they are too battered and hinder the bird, or when they change their plummage during mating time.
Because the feathers of the dragon have a living core that is not possible for her. Instead the outer rim of the feathers crumbles like too long fingernails will break and new material is steadily produced from the shaft.
Also the material that turns into a fine dust is usefull for the plumage and keeps it fluffy, let the feathers glide over each other more easily so they will not get worn out too fast.
The shaft is deep rooted and can be moved in nearly every direction because of the attached muscles. Therefore it is very hard to pull the feathers out..and not very nice from others to do so.
Only during mating season the downs seperate very easily because a part of the shaft dies and the living part will grow faster and replace the missing piece.
These downs are used the same ways as the one from birds.
The dragon is build slim, the bones are like the one of a bird so weight can be reduced and they are more flexible so they can withstand where a massive build bone could break.
A slender body, long legs, neck and tail make the dragon a good flyer.
She is not as fast as others but with the wings similiar to a the one of a seagull she can *swim* long distances on the wind and can fly breakneck maneuver to get away from not so friendly other beeings.
Also she is smaller than what most humans would understand under a dragon, but she is big enough to carry said humans on her back. Four or five would be no problem, but it would maybe be a problem for the humans to stay on her back when she flaps her wings.
Because she has no scales as protection she can get injured more easily through claws or weapons like swords, but because of her low weight and her built she can likely outmanoeuvre many beings that try to harm her.
She prefers to stay out of trouble, also a habitat where year round grow plants because her favored food are fruits.
To digest tougher structured food she swallows rocks, also to get more minerals for her body to build up proper plummage.
Like a magpie she collects shine stuff, mostly because shiny things like gems are harder than rocks and can ground food and stones. If one of her kind swallows rocks with a higher ammount of metall like silver or gold the plumage will have a silver or gold shine under strong sun rays.
But her magpie like behavior is also the reason of the stories where dragon slayers found *dragon gems* in the body of killed dragons...because the dragon swallowed it for grinding tough food in the stomach.(or ate rocks in which had been gems and these gems whithstand where the rocks have been turned into meal during digestion, but also got polished because of this)
Humans misunderstood this and thought the gems had grown in the body of the dragon.
Who know thinks that dragons of her kind are nearly defenseless, because also they can not create flames, is wrong.
Surely they prefer to stay out of trouble and get away instead of fight does not mean that they can not defend themselves if needed.
They devour a big ammount of stones, not only for grinding their food. The minerals which are important for a proper plummage are also the source of their natural *weapon*.
Creating electricity...to do so they rub their feathers against each other. That happens so fast a hissing can be heard which is often misinterpreted as a sound of distress but the source are the rustling feathers.
Like with an electric eel the dragon can store electricity in her body.
Normally when an attacker touches her the electricity will gush from the plumage. In more severe cases this species can also send an electric shock through the air at the attacker.
At least there is also a little nasty trick which can paralyze even the biggest of attackers.
Imagine a dragon, triple the size of her, rolling on the ground, sneezing and coughing all the time, trying to rub itself against the ground to stop a horrible itch and get a dust, similiar to glass wool out of eyes, nose and throat...
This dust seems even to crawl under scales or at least creates a horrible itch in places where the skin is softer.
If you can not see properly, stop sneezing and coughing and every move makes you itch (poor wing membran) it is very hard to go after your prey
