The light that illuminated the hallway leading from her cell buzzed as it flickered, casting a gloomy blue hue on the stone walls. Devi lay on her back, her hands behind her head, staring at the ceiling. One leg hung over the side of the bunk, lazily dangling. Her lush, silky tail flicked left and right in boredom, a flat gray in the plain light. Sighing lightly, she shifted onto her side, sliding one arm under her head and the other over her waist. Her silvery bangs fell into her sky blue eyes as she tried to relax. It was hard in a place like this, the loud metal clangs and crashes as cell doors slammed shut, the muffled sobs and sighs of nearby prisoners. She closed her eyes and tried to block out the sounds of the others as she concentrated on the tap of the raindrops pattering on the ceiling. She could hear the boom of a thunderclap outside, imagining a large white-blue bolt cascading through the sky. There had been a time when she enjoyed the rain. Suddenly, she was jolted back to reality as the smash of her steel door sliding open obliterated her daydream. A large black canine appeared, clad in a guard's uniform, complete with automatic weapon and ordered her to the back of the cell. She complied, keeping as far away from the imposing guard as possible. He sloppily threw a sandwich wrapped in plastic and sealed water container onto a tray, and tossed it into Devi's cell. Snarling at the frightened girl, he turned and exited the cell, slammed the door shut behind him. Chuckling quietly, he left to feed the others. Just another day.
