I use a tablet myself, and use the mouse for certain tools. In Aseprite, there is a little box called Pixel Perfect, and if you check that, it activates a kind of stabilizer for your tools, makes it easier with tablet

On muzzles, I'd say break it down into simple shapes, like a cylinder for the snout itself, then a triangle for the nose, etc. Then you can refine it into a detailed muzzle.
