Technically, I'm not an artist.

I have little training formal or otherwise. It was never something I wanted to pursue professionally nor a subject that I wanted to take in school. Appreciation for art, on the other hand: that I have in multitudes and it only ever increases. I have the greatest respect and admiration for artists primarily because of one thing: freedom.

The freedom of expression that is unique to art has always fascinated me. Even with photography, which I dabble in casually, I am limited only to capturing what the universe is showing me at the time. With a blank canvas or scene, anything in one's imagination is possible. Within the artist's universe, he or she has unlimited powers of conjuration -- no limits, rules, or laws of physics stand in their way.

Being able to write is fine and dandy, but our imagination works with images! And the euphoria that comes from visually expressing an image in your mind is analogous to finding the perfect phrase that expresses an idea just right.

So it is now, with encouragement from a dear friend, that I decided to start practicing art. I don't expect my technical talents to impress anyone. I hope to discover many nice people and things along the way and, perhaps, maybe also get better at visually expressing my thoughts :>
