In which Fallbringer rants about fursuits...
Here at RIT there's an annual anime convention called Tora-Con, which among other things naturally brings some of the (supposedly) many RIT furries out of the woodwork. I hear tell there's many a suiter or partial-suiter to be found roaming around over the course of the two-day event each April. I was unable to attend last year due to work, but am planning to do this year. And despite my better judgement, I've been considering the concept of suiting.
Now I don't really have anything wrong with fursuits in and of themselves. It's just that the fursuiting community is a rather distinct subcommunity of the fandom as a whole, and one that I'm not really a part of. And frankly, I don't really want to be a part of it. I think most fursuits look downright idiotic, even if they're obviously quite well constructed. Once you know a thing or two about clothing construction, you do realise just how much effort and skill it takes to put together a really good fursuit, but it doesn't change the fact that they're generally absolutely fucking ridiculous.
Yet I still sorta kinda wanna try putting something together, and I have a rather detailed concept in mind for something quite unique. Having become more comfortable with myself, more self-confident and outgoing, I keep thinking that if I could pull it off then it'd be quite fun to get reactions out of people, you know? Ideally, my friends would say I look surprisingly good, and the furries I meet would feel bad for wearing conventional fursuits, because they're obviously shitty and inferior. Basically I want to show everyone how it's done. Like a boss.
But fuck me if I have the time to get to the level where I could actually accomplish that. I have barely a few months, quite a bit of which would just be design and research, since the very first thing to do would be to come up with a character and stick to it for more than two days.
So I think perhaps I've settled on just getting a collar from the Collar Factory. It's a uniquely furry thing that isn't too offensive to the uninitiate, doesn't look completely foolish, and conveniently satisfies my need for having something tight around my neck. Today, incidentally, was the first day in months that I haven't worn my usual simple tight chain necklace. And why? Because I wore a turtleneck, of course. Sigh.
Now I just have to decide what the fuck to get for a collar. Decisions, decisions.
