How It All Started (G)
I’m just writing this to get it off my chest.
I’m new to having a fursona (only started 2 months ago). Although I haven’t drawn him much yet, he actually means a lot to me - mainly because of what he symbolises. In this journal I will talk about why I created Zuanshi.
For starters, I’m Chinese, but I have more exposure to Western culture. In Chinese culture, one’s birth year determines their zodiac (not like Western zodiacs from constellation such as Aries and Virgo). My younger brother was born in the year of the Dragon, so I envied him a bit (my Chinese zodiac is the rabbit). This August, when we were playing Minecraft, my brother pointed out that I like to keep my resources to myself (I grind a lot so I’m the richest on our server of 4). This behaviour, alongside my short temper and above average intelligence, as my brother pointed out, are properties of Western dragons.
And so I adopted the idea that both me and my brother (at least in spirit) were dragons - him being an Eastern and me being a Western.
After a month of playing around with this idea, I decided to solidify it by creating my very own dragon (at the time, I had already found out about FA). So I decided one Saturday to begin. And that is how I created Zuanshi (you can see him at: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/62428747/ )
But the reason why he’s made of diamonds is a different story. Ever since I was young, I had a particular talent for mathematics, so I chose diamonds to symbolise (my) brilliance (not to brag or anything).
By combining these to symbols I created my fursona (after 8 hours because I’m not that good of an artist :/)
*Originally, I wanted to use nylon (for reasons I neither know nor understand) but the lack of symbolism in nylon made me decide against it. (But I was definitely sure I wanted to use a Western.)
**Zuanshi’s name translates to diamond in my second language, Chinese. His full name, Zuanshilong, translates directly as “diamond dragon.”
Sorry for the long read. If you read this from start to finish, congratulations, and thank you so much!
