Answering a few quetions
I've received many PMs over the past few years about my return to the Fursuit Maker's ring. I don't have any immediate plans to do so, however, I have been feeling awfully nostalgic about my time as a maker. I miss the creative energy and working from home, the cute characters, and the gratification of seeing one of my costumes come together. On the other hand, there are as equally many things I don't miss. I think a lot of the things I don't miss about being a fursuit maker was due to my inexperience as an adult and as a business owner. I would do a lot differently now after working in the jewelry and construction industries.
I bit off way more than I could chew and in turn, I destroyed my mental, physical, and emotional health at the expense of these costumes. I made promises I could barely keep up with, I destroyed good friendships in the process, and it was solely due to my naivety and immaturity. I see the error in my ways and for those I hurt, I feel nothing but remorse and I want to do what I can, if I can, to make things right. I ended up getting involved with people I shouldn't have by the time I closed my doors. I walked into an abusive relationship, I was demonized for my interests and it still has a lasting effect on me to this very day. I had to hide and lie about all my equipment and materials, and then when my abuser passed away, I couldn't even stand to look at it. I ran from myself, I gave everything to a near and dear friend of mine. A year and a half after the incident, here I am writing this journal to share a little bit of my story. Although, I made a myriad of mistakes, I realize where exactly I went wrong and I refuse to hide anymore, even from myself. I love this craft and this fandom, and I hope that one day, I will decide to make custom suits again. I do plan on offering digital art commissions in the future though, I just need to order a new power cord for my tablet since it was lost amongst the chaos.
Despite the trials, I have been productive in learning new skill sets, making new connections, and experiencing different sides of life. I have a home, a family, and all of my wildest dreams have come true. My new partner and I are building a new art studio! With our shared background in jewelry making, his experience in over a decade of owning a business, we will be embarking on a collaborative jewelry business. We have discussed plans for a sewing studio for myself as well since I have been making cosplays in my free-time. So, who knows where the future may lead, I just know that it will be full of health and prosperity.
I hope to make new connections with you all, I'll see you out there.
Happy suiting!
