New Decade, Still Alive, Also Commissions are Open
6 years ago
Like the title says, it's a new year and I'm still alive and kicking. I don't think I'll ever leave DA. Even with its faults and there being other options out there, it's still one of the best places for art.
Despite having been spending too much time mucking around online, I have been neglecting my art outlets. So I'm going to try to fix that, but first, an update.
Since June of last year, I've been working on decluttering my life and home. I have a stupid amount of junk everywhere and it's got to go. I am done living like this. It's been slow going, mostly at my own fault, but it's coming along nicely. I aim to finish it this week, assuming nothing else comes up.
In the summer, after the big fiasco, I made some calls and got connected with Boeing. I tried to get on an internship, but I couldn't because I graduated. So I applied for a job in the fall. It took some time to prepare and wait for the listing to open up. Had my interview in November. It was looking good but unfortunately, they found a guy who already had experience with the simulator engine they use. I'm still hoping for an opening elsewhere in the company but haven't heard from them yet. In the meantime, I'm looking through other 3D related jobs and applying to local places.
In the late spring or early summer, I and my dad had to dig out the foundation of our house to fix a crack in it. Rainwater had been seeping in for years, getting under the floor and molding up the drywall. The crack was inside my supply closet, so I had to take out all the stuff, the shelves, and most of the drywall to get at it. Months after we sealed the crack, I got the drywall and put everything back up myself. Did the measuring, cutting, mudding and everything, and even filled in a door frame with the leftovers. Might seem like a small thing to a lot of people but I'm rather proud of myself. I've never done anything like that before, seen it done only once or twice, and it came out dang near perfectly.
Over the fall, my sister got married and I made her wedding cake topper. That was a rush. I didn't realize how much time went by and, well, let's just say I had to make that thing pretty quickly. I'll explain more when I get around to posting pictures. I know with my previous projects I was in school and had a lot of stress and anxiety pushing on me, but still, I'm ashamed of how long they took. Now I know what I'm capable of when I apply myself and stay off the freaking internet. I think I will have to try just gunning it on a few projects just to see how much I can do.
And of course Christmas was Christmas. Even though I wasn't in school, it still felt like I was doing a lot and had a hard time fully getting into the season. Still, it was good.
Which brings us to today. Like I said, I'm still in the process of going through a decade's worth of clutter and just doing spring cleaning a few months early. I've got pictures of my latest, finally completed commissions, so those will be coming up soon. I'm still looking for work but until then, I am looking to take some commissions.
If you have an idea, please bring it to me. If you know someone who's looking for a sculpture or miniature or some kind of 3D model or printing, please send them here. I'm open for almost anything, including speed sculpts and 3D printing. I'm considering having more flexible pricing, too, hoping to bring in some customers. I've had many a nibble but few bites. 3D is a hard medium to sell.
I hope you all had a merry Christmas and a happy New Year and that the first two weeks of the decade have been treating you well. I hope to hear from you all and get some commissions rolling in soon.
God bless you guys. Here's to 2020! A new year, a new decade, and a new life!
