Why did I do this? (G)
Eh. I'm thinking of a radical change in my life. Nothing that would have me leaving the fandom, but one that certainly would have me readjust my viewpoint on my place in it.
Part of said change would involve changing the name I'm know around these parts. It's a difficult change to make - people have known me as Summercat primarily since 2006 - you can have conversations with children who were born when I took that moniker for my own.
At the same time, I'm also more willing to assert that I am me, and me is I, and that my fursona is just that - a furry persona, not a character I just don once in a while. My ottery form - fit but with a belly, and running his own business, and having his own place where a stream meets a lake (or ocean) - that's an idealized me.
Uriel Photius, my skunk character, was never a persona I donned, just a character I came up with and developed. Same for all the others. They're fairly well developed characters, and they all have a bit of me in them (gaaaay), but they're not me, they're not the ideal I want to be - although they may exhibit portions of my ideals, they are not the manifestations of, well...
Me.
So that's why I finally gave my otter character a name - my own. Hi, I'm Henry. In real life I'm not that special, slightly darker than pasty white caucasianoid with dark brown hair and eyes, wears glasses, not fit at all, with more than just a little belly.
But my idealized self? That's the otter. I dont' claim to have it be my spirit animal, but... living as if life was play? Yes. I think I can do that. It's certainly possible with human societies, and it's something I want for myself.
And that's about it, really.
I don't know at this time if I'll be transitioning fully to this account as opposed to the Summercat account. Among other things, I am sentimental about the past, and there is a lot of history associated with that account and that name.
Just something for me to think on. That's all.
