Need help with a problem......
Does anybody know of anything where talking giant monsters are good guys??
I know there are a lot of examples of talking giant monsters that are villains, such as Tamatoa in "Moana", Zordrak in "The Dreamstone", the version of Green Goblin in "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse", the monster couple in that "Biker Mice From Mars" episode, the monsters in Disney's "Hercules: The Animated Series", Bowser becoming "Koopzilla" in that episode of the 80s Mario cartoon, Chernabog in "Fantasia" (well, he CAN talk in "House Of Mouse") and "Batman Unlimited: Mechs Vs Mutants" where Killer Croc, Bane, Clayface and Chemo become giant monsters and the heroes build giant robots to defeat them.
But in terms of talking giant monsters being good guys, the only things that I can think of that actually fit the criteria are Digimon and 2 animated movies (Rumble and Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken) that just felt like throwaway generic kids movies, so in other words, Digimon is a one-off and there's pretty much nothing meaningful beyond that.
Unless I'm willing to bend my criteria to include giant humans, robots, monsters that don't talk but at least show SOME degree of "human-like behaviour", and more human-sized monsters like in "Monsters Inc" and "Kaiju No.8", I'm REALLY struggling to find anything meaningful.
I guess my best bet would be dinosaurs and dragons. They're not kaijus, but they still fit the criteria of being giant creatures, and there are several heroic examples of these like the archdragons in "The Dragon Prince", Draco in "Dragonheart", Baylene in Disney's "Dinosaur", Littlefoot's mother in "The Land Before Time", and Saphira in "Eragon".....that's about as far as I'd be willing to bend my criteria without it feeling like too much of a compromise.
I know i've been having this issue for quite some time now, but I have made virtually NO progress on this problem since I first "went public" about it. Are there ANY characters out there that actually suit what I'm looking for? Or is making my own characters from scratch (which I don't have the patience and skills to do beyond the concept stages) really the only way "open the floodgates" with this?
