Been writing fiction on and off since I was a teenager, though mostly just for the pure fun of it. I've always loved stories about animals, from wonderful old classics like The Wind in the Willows to more modern fictions like Redwall, The Secret of NIMH and Sonic the Hedgehog.
I'm a character designer by trade, so I like to write the kind of stories that focus on characters; how they interact with other a characters and the world around them; how they react to situations beyond their control and their journeys of self-discovery and growth that take them from the beginning of the story to the end.
My favorite authors have always been those who can create and shape landscapes with their mastery of the written word. Authors like China Mieville (Peridido Street Stations) and H.P. Lovecraft (He Dunwich Horror) who can create the most vivid of sceneries both fantastic and horrific in their descriptions.
I'm also very fond of authors like Robert E. Howard (Conan) and Robert Silverberg (Nightwings) for their ability to create lush, functioning universes with out of this world technologies and wonderfully complex characters while still being economic with their words and descriptions.
And of course, I shouldn't leave out Brian Jacques who more or less set the standard for stories revolving around the exciting yet still lighthearted adventures of brave little forest animals and their friends, in a world where the word 'human' doesn't even exist!
