DISCUSSION: Game of Thrones (s06e01)
Just finished watching Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 01.
I have to say... I'm very impressed. Strong start, and it really gave us a tiny picture of where everyone left off.
Beyond this point, there be spoilers!
So just a little discussion on where you think everything is headed. Ideas down below!
For me, predictions...
1. Castle Black is going to be a major flashpoint. There are a lot of story elements culminating together around Castle Black and The Wall. Sansa & Brienne will be going to the wall, then there's the mutiny at the wall, and of course there's The Others.
2. Melisandre (the Red Witch) is revealed as being as ancient as was hinted. Apparently she's many centuries old, and has been a disciple of R'hllor for all that time. R'hllor has been shown to be a god of lies, with the Lightbringer that she made being false. Her predictions about Stannis being false. And now we see that her beauty is even false. That R'hllor's power doesn't extend her youth, merely covers up her age. I think that the final scene is foreshadowing. Melisandre is tired of being the champion of a lying god and is ready to shed his influence from her. I believe that she will be a reformed character, and will give her life using R'hllor's power to do something at Castle Black (I think she will find a way to bring Jon Snow back, and the cost will be her life.) The preachers of R'hllor in Meereen sort-of hints that there might be more to see of R'hllor in the future.
3. The Aria story arc, as far as I can tell, is the only one that's still behind the books. So I don't have much to say there.
4. Tyrion and Varys .. not much to say there. They're keeping it together while Jorah and whassisname go after Daenerys, who's being taken to Vaes Dothrak. No surprise there. I actually predicted that one. And of course they'll save her and bring her back to the city, probably after Drogon murders the entire Dothraki horde.
5. Probably the most interesting part of S06E01 was the coup in Dorne. I was thinking that Doran Martell would have to try and keep Dorne and the rest of the kingdom from going to war, but they pretty much killed off that entire bloodline, meaning that Oberyn's family (the SandSnakes) should now become heirs to Dorne. They blame the Lannisters for all kinds of bad stuff, and now they also have killed Myrcella, so the Lannisters now hate them in return. I think there's pretty-much a 100% chance that there will be an enormous war between Dorne and the crown. This war might just be the culmination of season 6, which will leave The Wall for the series finale.
The question is - where will Daenerys and Aria fit into this? Also - what's going on with Sam? I kinda forget where we left off with him.
Anyway - those are my predictions. Thoughts below!
