the short version: my computer is in a working state now. should be business as usual from now on

the long version: i'm using my 14 year old laptop since my previous one stopped working. but in its original state, it was very laggy, to the point i couldn't draw on it. me and my gf initially thought it just needed more ram, but the ram was already maxxed out. so, we decided to get an ssd in hopes that'd make it faster

getting a new hard drive means having to reinstall the operating system. i had 2 options: windows 11 or linux. windows 11 is extremely bloated and from what i've heard, doesn't run well on older hardware (the laptop was running windows 7, so i wasn't sure if 11 would work). i was initially afraid that getting linux would be a difficult adjustment, but i learned that there were plenty of user-friendly distros out there. so, linux it was.

the ssd came, i decided on the distro i wanted, and my gf tried to install it... but it wouldn't work. thankfully, one of our tumblr mutuals was kind enough to help us troubleshoot. since it's such an old computer, it wasn't easy. we worked for several hours for several days. and FINALLY, my gf got it to work last night

so yah. now all i need to do is set up wine and medibang and i should be back to drawing ! thanks for everyone's patience :3
