So I used to use live models...
...when I drew. I like having human / animal references for my poses, especially when work with writing. As of late I have been using reference images of models that are not mine due to a lack of models that fit character specifics. Problems with such including that I have an awesome ability called "stuff you do looks a lot like what you worked off of" (what I would deem plagiarism if profit off of them) since if it was done right enough before there should not be much to change on the base frame. This is kind of okay for when I do private gift work and tends, but I am terrified of posting anything that is close enough to call tracing. Using in-game models is enough to make me freak out a little since I tend to not use a style of my own to dramatically tweak the works, and there are generally still shots of similar things on the internet. This is the internet.
I have a selection of works based on real-life imagery if my mate and myself, but I am uncomfortable posting those as well. I am slightly paranoid about letting out personal details.
Close backgrounds are not an issue as I work with Google SketchUp to do most of my backgrounds - mostly because I have a lot of fun working with a not-super-complex drafting tool that also has the power to be rather detailed about sunlight positioning. Complex backgrounds generally have me scouring the internet for a reference, then scouring the nearby landscape for similar imagery to take pictures of if applicable.
Damn it, I want to post at least some of the stuff I do.
Do any of you frown on my using of live models that had their images taken by someone other than me?
How about incorporating a selection of "stuff that looks rad" even when the outcome is never going to be completely original? (Hard suits, Mechs, Military gear, Robots, Steampunk, Trans-human/other being augments, et cetera)

If you want a background in space it will probably be less personal as I do not have transportation around or outside of the solar system at this time. If you can arrange safe round-trip transportation functioning at approximately light speed I will work with you out to the Fornax Dwarf Spheroidal galaxy, but I would prefer to only reach the Canis Major Dwarf galaxy if we are limited to light speed. That is nearly a three-week round-trip, before pit stops, and it would be nigh impractical to keep in contact with my mate during said trip.Damn it, I want to post at least some of the stuff I do.
