Back in Action: Summing up the end of the year
5 years ago
Hey everyone!
I'm sorry I've been so MIA, but a lot of things have happened since I moved for my job and closed my commissions. I want to thank all my new watchers for following me, and for my followers for sticking with me and being so patient with me. The main issue that caused my MIA was that at my new job, corporate was doing a lot of changes and moving people around between facilities, and in the process my hiring process got frozen. So my first day was coming up and I was told I'd start 2 days later. Two days later, I find out I need to wait another week. Then I was told to just keep calling every week. It was nice at first, having 2 weeks to relax before I started working full time again, but then it began to wear down on me. Each week, I wouldn't know if I'd be starting work, or even working at all. I started to get depressed, anxious and panicked. Here I was, someone who moved to a whole new town to start a job, and I didn't even know if I had a job. I began to look for other venues for work, I had a panic attack at least twice during the time I was unemployed, I began to be less social and couldn't get myself to leave my house at all. The only thing that got me out of the house were my dog and my horse and I'm so thankful I have them to prevent me from becoming a shut in. But it was tough, it was a terrible time and I'm still anxious due to the time of not knowing if I had a job. What was worse was my boss assured me I would start on my date and then corporate did all this BS while he was away on his honeymoon. ON HIS HONEYMOON! Least to say, he was furious when he came back and found out the BS that went down. I am so grateful to him for getting my hiring process back on track and getting me started as soon as possible, and overall being there to back me up and be there for me.
However, because all of that happened other things have suffered. Ever since the debacle, I haven't been able to draw as often as I used to or would like to. While I was depressed I could barely pick up a pencil or my tablet pen. When I would start to draw, nothing looked good, not even circles. So I stopped drawing for a bit. Then I began to work and had to get used to working full time again, but also balance taking care of my animals, taking care of myself, taking care of my home, and trying to be more social. Having to do all of this, my art and my motivation/inspiration suffered. I even had to cancel my last convention for the year because of everything that happened at work, which was very depressing because it was one of my most successful cons from last year. During December, I drew some things, but anything I finished ending up looking like absolute shet to me. Nothing I drew actually looked like I drew it, as if someone else did. All of this disheartened me further. But I know, that if I wanted to get over this, I had to push myself.
That's why this year, I'm resolving to draw for at least 30 minutes every night, doesn't matter what it is: just a bunch of sketches, lining certain pieces, doing anything at all that keeps me drawing. I'm not going to force myself to finish anything (unless it's a commission), just making sure I keep drawing so I can find my groove again. And for now, it's working. I'm currently working on a Galar pokedex challenge and I've been happy that I've been able to at least get to the coloring process. That's a big accomplishment for me. I'm going to keep working on it, and sketching whatever comes to my mind to help me gain my confidence back.
Now that I've gotten all of that out, I have some important things to let you guys know about
ANNOUNCEMENTS!
Commissions
I will be reopening my commissions soon, but I am going to make some big changes to them. First off, I am increasing my prices. i just finished 3 big commissions: they were fun to do, but they made me realize I need to value my work a lot more, so that means I need to increase my prices. I will be posting a new commission sheet by the end of the month, but if you are interested in commissioning me before then, you can shoot me a message, note, or email and I'll be more than happy to discuss prices for what you're looking for.
Social Media
As you know, I have other sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and DeviantArt. On DeviantArt and Facebook, I tend to only post completed works or adoptables, but on my Instagram I post a lot more art, usually lots of sketches and WIPs. I highly recommend you follow me on those sites so you can see even more of my art and you can see how my artist journey is going. If I get enough people who want me to, I may even start a Twitter account so followers can see me there as well, which leads me to my last announcement.
Suggestions are Open! Or what many may refer to as Requests
Before you get too excited, no I am not taking on full requests, as in you give me a prompt and I will draw it. I am opening up suggestions, which are ideas of things to draw that I may or may not draw. I want to do this as a way for me to keep drawing. Some suggestions I may not do and some I may, it depends on the context and how I am feeling that day. That being said, I also want to encourage my followers to talk with me and pester me about drawing each day. I am grateful for all my followers support and I want to hear more from you. You can pester me like "hey, where's that sketch for the day?", and similar things like that. I'd also love to hear if there is anything that I have drawn in the past that you'd like to see more from me, such as furries, robots, certain fandoms, or if you want even more updates on current projects. I want to hear from you and learn more from you.
That about wraps up my 2019. Here's to 2020 being more prosperous and me growing in many ways. I hope you all have a great 2020 as well!
