Getting better...but not all the time. (G)
It's slowly getting better over here in Ireland. Our horse is especially doing well. We moved him to a different stable and he's so much happier there. He gets to eat grass in the pasture all day and then we bring him in every night into a warm and cozy stable. He's finally putting on some weight again after losing so much while he was in transit.
I have to admit, the school I'm at is not that great. Apart from one teacher, the rest are pretty awful. The students seem to care less about the actual horses and more about just looking good for the riding exams. I could care less about the riding. To me it's all about the care and well being of the horses.
I've bonded with two horses in particular, Sunny, an Irish sport horse and Bob the Cobb . I'm very fond of draft horses and Bob is no exception. He's a gentle giant, like all the other drafts I've known. Sunny is just a sweet boy who doesn't like to rock the boat much.
I was able to land working one day a week at a stud that breeds sport horses and train yearlings. I'm on the fence on how horses are seen here in Ireland. They are well cared for, but the motivation behind it seems to all come down to money and very little emphasis on them being companions. Time will tell.
Ireland is not bad. Most people are friendly and they mind their own business when it comes to things. However, being a yank, there are still cultural differences, but luckily it's not a deal breaker. In day to day life, Ireland so far is....not bad at best. It's just like most other places I've lived. Time will tell what will come of all this. Right now, I'd still like to stay here for the long haul and see where this goes.
