HII!! Had this account made for a while and just, uh, haven't posted anything. Very funny to me that my first post will be a journal rather than art. Because I made a decision post AC '25 that I wanted to use this account more as far as art posting than my other socmed, I thought it made sense to do a post mortem of sorts of my con experience.
So, Anthrocon 2025, I was there for Saturday and Sunday of the con, and I had a blast! I've been to plenty of anime and gaming conventions before, but this was my first furry convention! The vibe was sooo different from any other con I've been to. There was such palpable joy and excitement in the air, and people were so eager to talk to and meet other people. It was wonderful to experience, especially with the wonderful group of friends that I ended up going with. I'll admit I was at a bit of an advantage over my friends going into the con because I'd been to Tekko a couple of times, which is also held in the DLCC. But they've all been to way more furry conventions than I have, so I think it ends up even somehow. Pittsburgh is also a city I'm pretty familiar with, and it was soooo so wonderful to see it again.
I ended up going to a couple of panels and both 18+ sketchbook swaps, and I had a blast at those. A swap is such a fun idea, and I both received and gifted some wonderful art. However, I didn't realize that it would be good to have references and content guidelines for my characters that I threw into the swap, which kinda caused a snag at first but I figured it out haha. I also went to the Room Party art show at Bunker Projects and attended a panel at AC that was hosted by the curators and a few of the contributing artists. It was so cool to see so many artists that I only knew of because of the internet in person and to hear about the thought process and intention behind the creation of the art show.
I'd love to take the train up again in the future, but it gets there so late that it'll really depend on next year's dates I think. Being in an airport over 4th of july weekend is the last thing I wanna be doing tbh. But! If it happens, it happens.
