Life, 3years and tips for budding artists
14 years ago
Well lets start this off by thanking all who have added my most recently posted artwork it means alot to me,
and brings great joy to my otherwise misserable life :)
Well lets get down to it, it has been roughly 3 years since i last visited this site and unleashed my attempt at furinatamy upon you all and it has been reasonable recived by you, i have had some fantasic responces and via this site and others i have recieved commissions from people that have kept me reasonably busy.
But unfortunately along the way i got lost in myself depressin kicked in after the death of my nan but was rekindled by the birth of my son Seth last year
and i cant say the road was an easy one bringing a beautiful boy who my partner and i belive to be a Bolf a wolf with cute bunny ears.
Unfortunately fatherhood is rough as i found out and my god it is hard, trying to be the person you want to be percived as by your child and although he is only one atm when he looks at me i see a sparkle in his eyes that says i love you.
anyway depression hit again after the first 5 months of sleepless night and constant screaming lol but i see depression as a gateway to the next step of artistic revival as basically every time i have hit a hard depression, eventhough it is hard to get drawing again my art evolves a little it changes and in my opinion and other it gets that little bit better as though all the pain and anguish goes in to it.
Well in May this year me and my partner of six years finally tied to knot and got married it was a joyous day with much hilarity and really bad weather lol
infact i had my wife laughing the most when she went to put the ring on my finger and i screamed out in terror "IT BURNS" which of course brought the ceramony to a standstill due to too many people unable to speak cos they were laughing to hard.
Another couple of months down the line and yes my mistress depression caught up to me and gave me the usual life draining blow job, so again i went in to a slump and dueing that time i was asked by a dear friend to do some artwork for his gaming book that he was writing which turned out to be a gaming system to roleplay as prostitutes or ladies of loose morals as they are also know, anyway after they were released into the world i was commissioned again by him to do art work for the expansions on it which i gladly obliged on the condition i got copies of all the books, and atm Courtesans is a very popular gaming system.
At the moment i am still nursing my depression even though i am now a published artist which should be a pick me up.
and to all those who have read so far and though i am a winey bitch so what i am just giving you a perspective on my life and what i have been through so if you didnt like it tough you read it so its your problem not mine ;P
anyway to all those budding artist who want tips on improving there art skill:
First off i do not see myself as a great artist if anything i see myself as a moderate artist with a lot of work to do to be able to catch up to the true brilliant artist on this site and many others.
Secondly these tips are what have helped me and may not help you and you may need to follow a different way of improving.
And thirdly depression is not a good thing if anything it can really fuck up your life and your relationships so dont go ripping on it.
So here we go here are my tips to improving your own art work:
first step it tracing, tracing is a ckey part to art as it helps you to get used to shapes, poses, muscle tone, or anything really you want to improve on.
now im not condoning copying peoples art to then post off as your own as that is unfair to the artist you have ripped off, HOWEVER i am saying that if you are going to post a copied art work that you use only the pose or shape and not the entire image infact that you make it your own by practicingand using your own creative thought and yopur own way of doing things.
Next is to be inspired, look at every thing with a fresh pair of eyes look at every angle, every wrinkle in everyday things you walk past or stare at everyday you will be amazed at what your imagination can make you see in something as simple as a bin bag or an artex celing use them for inspiration you never know what could be the beginings of you own art style or improvement upon an existing art style until you try it out.
Third is CARTOONS, do you remember the cartoons you watched as a kid or the ones you kids watch or even the cartoons your parents watch they can be your basis of an improvement i mean my favourate era for cartoons was the late 80's early 90's when you had the thundercats and he-man and of course transformers, and of course as i got older there were the tiny toons and the animaniacs. belive it or not but alot of anthro artist are inspired by the simplest of cartoons the looney toons bugs bunny, daffy duck and so on.
Fourth is not to give up, yes leave it and come back to it as art its a very frustrating thing you will find many screwed up peices of art in my bin because i got to frustrated be cause the art i see in my head is not what i drew on the paper.
Fifth is study, hell take figure drawing classes if you must but the fact is the basic skills of human anatomy and figure are key, i personally used a book that helped me a lot call how to draw anything it is my bible and got me on the path to proper figures the references were a real help.
And lastly Keep it simple stupid, or kiss as its also known simple shapes makes a good picture as the more complicated you make it the worse it look as i draws the eye of the veiwer everywhere and puts them off just put the complicated bits where you want them to focus and also break everthing down into a simple shape its art basics 101, the funny thing is we all forget the basics sometimes.
any way i hope these tips help as they have helped me
so take care and keep drawing and dont compare your art to others as you are good in your own right and should not let the art of ather deter you from creating your own style and improving on it.
